But isn't Ron the Death Eater about fanfics? Was there a definition change or something? Or are there some Evil!Buck fanfics I'm missing?

There was also a RTDE for Runt that might fit under Never Live It Down better too.

Thomas fans needed! Come join me in the the show's cleanup thread!

Definition change hasn't happened yet, people are still discussing it on Trope Talk.

So on DarthWiki.Fallen Creator, there's a pothole on John Lasseter's page referring to his sexual harassment accusations in 2017. Shall I make an edit request?

It's not 2042, so yes, make the request. It's a speculative "will never live it down" pothole to boot.

From YMMV.Twilight Zone The Movie:

  • Never Live It Down: John Landis will forever be remembered as the director whose recklessness on the set led to a fatal helicopter crash which killed Vic Morrow and two child actors, My-Ca Dinh Le and Renee Shin-Yi Chen. In the early days of Comic Con, which Landis attended, it was common for attendees to follow him from behind and snap dollar bills next to his ear to imitate the sound of helicopter blades as a cruel prank. When Landis' son Max became controversial in his own right, many joked that John should have been more of a "helicopter parent."

This is supposed to be for character moments only, right? And it's already covered by Overshadowed by Controversy....

Real Life moments can count if they happened over 25 years ago. This movie is several decades old, so it's valid. OBC can focus more on the way it overshadowed the movie, while this can focus more on how Landis himself was defined by this mistake no matter what he did.

You can cut the Incredibly Lame Pun pothole though.

Found this on YMMV.Christina Grimmie:

  • Never Live It Down: Get murdered? Sad. Get murdered the day before one of the worst mass shootings in history? Worse. Get murdered in the same city? You're never getting heard of again.

Seems like blatant misuse to me, in addition to being incredibly tasteless.

And she only died four years ago, so it's too recent regardless. I think she may unfortunately end up defined by her murder, but it's too early to tell, and most people don't seem to connect her to the Pulse mass shooting.

Is anything from Game Grumps viable here? They seem to be real-life examples for a series less than nine years old.

  • Never Live It Down:
    • Jon claims that pointing out he says "legitimately" often has led to this with some of his other friends.
    • Table Flip never really recovered from the Sling deal; the news of lovelies having to pay to get new episodes or wait 2 months for them to be uploaded on YouTube (especially on a service only available to Americans) caused a huge controversy. Videos advertising new episodes on Sling are disliked so heavily that it's become a Running Gag of sorts, and Ross even admitted that he would no longer go onto the show.
    • Brian drew attention to his PhD in several of his early appearances as a Running Gag, though quickly dropped it. You wouldn't know that from the fans, who still bring it up. He's even lampshaded it before in one of the videos, how fans and the other Grumps keep bringing it up more than Brian himself, now.
    • Arin's never going to hear the end of it with his constant Take Thats to Sonic, especially when it came to his constant attacks to the game on GrumpCade with Jirard, who is a fan of the series.
      • In fact, this mentality has extended to virtually any game he doesn't find to his taste — with mixed reception.
      • He also never reads the instructions, something the fans won't let anyone forget.
    • Even if it was a deliberate troll job, Matt and Ryan will never escape the initial release of the November 2017 Best of Game Grumps compilation where nearly every clip was titled "SOME TOKENS!", which was meant to only be used for a Leisure Suit Larry: Magna Cum Laude clip at the very end. When the video was reposted with the proper subtitle cards, an overwhelming majority of the comments were jokes or references to "SOME TOKENS!"
      • Much more deeper, Ryan and Matt probably will never live down the endless fandom theories and accusations about their fallout with Markiplier, especially in regards to the abrupt cease of collaboration between the Grumps and Mark. (Although Mark has appeared on NSP videos even after their fallout, so his relationship with the grumps, or at the very least Dan, probably isn't that terrible).

If anything's legit there it'd be Arin's jokes about Sonic and him not reading instructions, but he does those so often that they're not really unfair nitpicks.

[up][up] First is Square Peg, Round Trope (the trope is about how the fanbase reacts), unsure about the second since it's about a web series, and the rest can be cut as being about real people.

[up][up][up]Is that not still a real-life example? I think it could count, since Arin claims he doesn't actually hate Sonic as much as people say he does, but I'm not sure if Let's Player behavior counts as real life and thus needs the waiting period.

NeverLiveItDown.Star Wars

  • Han is forever remembered for having his Solo surname given to him by an Imperial Navy recruitment officer. It's mostly poked fun at by fans for how odd it is that the film felt it was necessary to tell the story of how Han got his last name.

This seems misuse as it's a fact, not unfairly exaggerated moment. Fan-Disliked Explanation or Narm seem to fit better. Cut?

It's probably Fan-Disliked Explanation. Han is known for way more moments, good and bad, than that one stupid moment in a film that went largely unremarked upon.

Removed this from YMMV.The Last Of Us Part II:

I believe I brought this up several time as misuse, as it's about fans unfairly exaggerating minor moments or unfairly overlooking mitigating context. Debate about Abby's actions aside, I think it was deemed misuse as it was meant to be a major moment. Or maybe that was Moral Event Horizon I brought up. Thought's about NLID applying here?

Shadow8411 Since: Jul, 2019

This NLID entry is from Family Guy S8 E1: "Road to the Multiverse":

  • Never Live It Down: The two cases of Critical Research Failure Mentioned above have tainted perceptions of the episode for those that enjoy multiverse stories and Alternate History.
    • The idea that Japan would not surrender and dominate the world without being nuked is widely regarded as false and impossible by historians.
    • Years after the episode aired, the No-Christianity universe is widely regarded as an example of Critical Research Failure and reductive thinking on the part of New Athiest movement prevalent in the late 2000's and early 2010's, given that there is no evidence Christianity dumbed down the world, instead rather helping preserve knowledge in Europe. Even the most staunch anti-theists familiar with Post-Roman Europe these days would disagree with the Author Tract.

Since NLID is supposed to be about character moments, and this appears to be complaining about the episode itself, is it OK to cut this?

From VideoGame.Puyo Puyo:

  • Never Live It Down:
    • Cranky Food Friends, to the point where it has hit minor Memetic Mutation among SEGA and Puyo Puyo fans that any localized Puyo Puyo game will have all the characters replaced with grouchy food. I don't get why context is abandoned here; the Overshadowed by Controversy entry has explanation as to why CFF ended up like this.
    • Dark moments in the PC-98 ports of the original Madou Monogatari trilogy define the entire Madou Monogatari series as far as the majority of the English fanbase is concerned. In particular, it's not a stretch to say that the battle with Schezo's decapitated head in its version of Madou Monogatari II is the most iconic moment in the series for said fanbase. This is despite the mostly-Lighter and Softer Madou Monogatari I receiving the most remakes and reimaginings, as well as the early Puyo Puyo games revisiting the Super-Deformed style of the MSX game. This is valid.
    • IGN claiming that Tetris is slightly worse than Puyo Puyo in a Puyo vs Tetris match. To be fair to them, a mediocre Puyo Puyo player can easily flatten beginner and even lower-intermediate Tetris players...it's just that Puyo stands no chance against a player who can fully utilize the speed of Tetris. Thing is this applies to IGN more than the game itself, given they're the ones who claimed that Puyo VS Tetris would go in that fashion.
    • Sega producer Toshihiro Nagoshi (known for heading the Yakuza series) became a big target from the Puyo fandom after he gave out a rather unfortunate declaration that mocked the series' Japanese esports players in a livestream. Not even the subsequent apology from Sega as well as himself have managed to alleviate this.

Cranky Food Friends? I'd expect Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine or Kirby's Avalanche due to those being more explicit Puyo Puyo clones, but...I haven't even heard of that game in the slightest.

That bit seems to apply mainly to the Puyo fandom itself, though the extent of infamy is mostly unknown to us. The OBC entry also noted that Cranky Food Friends didn't even get a proper release, stating that this may have something to do with what the Puyo fandom found out about it.

...but people quickly caught on that the game was basically a Dolled-Up Installment of Puyo Puyo Quest. Since then the game became notorious both for Puyo Puyo fans and gamers in general for being a cheap imitation and proof that SEGA of America/Europe has no confidence in its own franchises. Not helping that the soft launch was a case of really poor timing, since vice president of SEGA Haruki Satomi stated around the same time that he wanted to improve the company's reputation after feeling fans lost faith.
