Opened.
The Amazing World of Gumball episode "The Scam" has Gumball as Beetlejuice, Leslie as Audrey II, and Sarah as the Moon from The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask. [1]
Keet cleanupThat's pretty good.
back lolCurrent Project: The Team
For some reason I immediately remembered that one Uncle Grandpa Halloween episode where one of the trick-or-treaters was a fat kid on a motorscooter dressed as Steven Universe. Don't have a picture of it though.
Anyway, found these in the Webcomics section:
- From The Chapel Chronicles: Multiple attempts, and they even state which series they're from for convenience.
- Dan and Mab's Furry Adventures: As Captain N characters, as Harry Potter and the Fourteenth Doctor (I think), as Jessie and James, and Dan as Waldo. Didn't include the first one since one of their backs was to the camera.
- Dominic Deegan: One, Two. Similar to Chapel, the comic says who the characters are supposed to be.
- Something*Positive: A very black comedy dead Robin.
- El Goonish Shive: Chibi anime edition.
- Brawl in the Family: Third panel, maybe?
- Unintentionally Pretentious: As Marge and Homer.
- Leif & Thorn: [1].
Otherwise, I like the Gumball image, though it should be cropped to just Gumball, Leslie, and Sarah.
Sidenote, this page reeks of old TVTropes. ZCEs out the wazoo, misindentation, natter, dead weblinks that are not examples...

Jawbreakers on sale for 99¢Bump.
back lolI like the gumball one, not so much the webcomic ones, mostly because outright stating who they are in the image with the text (as with most of them, at least) is more wordy than it needs to be, and the ones that don't have captions in the images have too many words anyways. Brawl in the Family one would be perfect but it's not very obvious who the originals are if you isolate the context.

I don't recognize any of those character. IMO using characters dressed as more well-known fictional characters would work better.
back lolif it helps at all the focus was meant to be Jake (middle guy) dressed up as the Avatar cat person
Yeah, the Homestuck one isn't clear enough.
Current Project: The TeamI went looking again and I really like this example (would def have to find a higher quality version though)
It also clearly establishes halloween via the background decor.

That one is good, but the problem is that even though the last panel is the most illustrative, its' long length won't work as a page image. I was thinking panels 2 to 5 could work in a 2x2 arrangement, but I'd still prefer something without text.

back lolJust the left half of 13 would work, if we wanted to go with that. It still has the decor in the background, and the four characters are already plenty recognizable. (For me at least, the slug costume is the only one I don't recognize.)
Bump.
back lol3 is the best so far.
Honestly, I can't really recognize any of the costumes in 3. Like maybe Beetlejuice? But even so, it's not my instantaneous reaction. And it doesn't help that they're mixed in with more "normal" costumes as well.
I like the OP the best. The Avengers is an iconic-enough franchise that people instantly recognize it as a cosplay, and the candy pots make it clear it's Halloween.
But the cropping is so weird there; a better version of the image would be nice.

Clock is set.
Crown Description:
Nominations for replacement images:
The current image doesn't feature a fictional character cosplaying as another fictional character, it just shows a girl in a generic Halloween-themed dress. Even if they are cosplaying as another fictional character that I'm unaware of, I still think we could use something more well-known.
To get the ball rolling with suggestions, how about the South Park example◊ in the Western Animation folder?
