I think we can do better, but I also think this is a Keep Until Better Image Suggested case at worst; Homer merrily hammering away while Bart is clinging to the gutter is pretty visually indicative to me.

Weak keep with Willbyr's reasoning.

back lolI'm not fond of Simpsons overuse, but I can keep this as I don't have suggestions (but maybe you have something from Dad, War Jay 77?).

Currently mostly inactive. An incremental game I tested: https://galaxy.click/play/176 (Gods of Incremental)Keep Until Better Image Suggested.
"That's right mortal. By channeling my divine rage into power, I have forged a new instrument in which to destroy you."As much as I adore Dad, I don't think there's anything I can visually take from that series to illustrate this. Dad is a Bumbling Dad, but the series is so minimalistic and dialogue-reliant, that I don't have any options to pitch from it.

Current Project: The TeamSomething like this seems hard to convey in a picture.
I agree that it should probably be kept unless something better can be found.
Keep Until Better Image Suggested.
(Annoyed grunt)Keep Until Better Image Suggested, I am not too fond of the plethora of Simpsons images either and this isn't the best, but this is not bad enough to pull without replacement. They look related (one is older/bigger = dad, one is smaller/younger = son) are hammering about a house that they presumably both share, and the dad looks oblivious to his son being in danger.
EDIT: Would the just-replaced image on Alcoholic Parent be better here?

Honestly, that might work?
The thing that makes the current so weak for me is the fact that Bart doesn't really look all that alarmed either - just a little surprised.
Well, at least it's more indicative of bumbling. But I'd say keep looking.
That doesn't really change much.
Alarmed Bart or not, Homer is being irresponsible.
Original the Signature. Do not steal.Yeah. But it adds to the issue that OP already noted. It's hard to tell how much danger Bart is in (and therefore how bumbling Homer is), if Bart also doesn't look worried. Like I said it isn't bad enough to pull outright.
But with the tight crop, Bart's level of concern looks more in line with "I have climbed a ladder to join my father on top of the roof, but my arms are slightly too short to hoist myself up."

This one◊, perhaps? The fact that Homer is falling over makes him look more "bumbling" to me.
I can't open that link.
I like 11, BTW.
The universe is under no obligation to make sense to us.Getting drunk is not the same as bumbling; hence the current is better than 11. Keep.
Rhetorical, eh? ... Eight!I agree with that. Weak keep.
16 is nice.
Here's 16 at wiki size and slightly cropped.
16 is alright. Not great, just alright.
That's stumbling dad. I don't see how that's better than the current.
Rhetorical, eh? ... Eight!Honestly, I don't like 11 for the reasons already posted, and the newer suggestion is a lateral change.
Current Project: The TeamYeah. It's not like "mind-blowing best image ever". But it's alright, and I like it better than current so .
The first impression given by this image is of a son helping his dad out with roof repairs.
The second impression given, on closer look, is a son gripping the edge of a roof. However, even that interpretation gives no indication how far a drop that would be, or what's immediately beneath it, hence Homer may or may not out of context have any reason for alarm. Even if he did, it's better not to look panicked in such situations.
I'm not sure what to suggest for an alternative, but I'd rather it be imageless than have this.
