. The current’s more crude in the art but it feels a little closer to the trope.
Issue is, the current requires the caption to explain that the character didn't kill 700+ bears; this doesn't need that. it's more illustrative, even if it's gorier.
Working on: Author Appeal | Sandbox | Troper WallDunno, for me the deconstruction in OP seems too clever for its own good. Current is more straight forward. Not sure why War Jay 77 thinks it's too caption-reliant.
^ Because it... is. The only thing the image tells us is that the character has a lot of bear-asses; but only the caption actually tells us that he didn't kill more than 20 bears to get them. The caption is pulling the weight- and while the suggestion might not be the best replacement choice just because it's gory and exaggerated, it's at least doing all the necessary work without needing a caption to say "BTW HERE'S WHY IT'S THIS TROPE".
Working on: Author Appeal | Sandbox | Troper WallI like the current. I think the status bar shows that it's something required for a quest.
Whereas the suggestion is both gorier and more text-heavy.
"It's just a show; I should really just relax"Scrolled through the webcomics section (also commented most of it out while I was at it) and found two other suggestions:
Jawbreakers on sale for 99¢Keep the current. Just because it's a literal interpretation of the title doesn't make it a bad image.
Keet cleanupPersonally, I don't think my suggestion is too gruesome. Yes, there's a lot of blood, but the rats are Made of Bologna and don't seem to have many organs exposed.

Just the first panel of 14.1 illustrates the trope, the second panel is not necessary. However, it relies a little too much on text.
OP isn't bad either, and I agree that the rats being Made of Bologna makes the gore a little more comical and less gruesome.

That's not the issue, the issue is that a lot of the weight comes from the caption.

The issue is actually the opposite problem- the idea that the enemies tend to drop way more than they would in reality in order for you to achieve the goal. The fact that the guy only had to kill 20 bears to get 700+ asses is what we're talking about; he's killing less than you'd expect, not more. Is that important to illustrate? Maybe not; but that's what we're actually referring to.
Really? That really needed to be more clear... Nobody has corrected me until now.

Nominations for replacement images:

Here's a potential replacement from one from the Dorkly Originals RPG Parody webcomics, this time with a healthy dose of Fridge Logic Lampshade Hanging.
Can someone help provide a larger, better version of this?
