Set in an alternate America where witches ended their persecution over 300 years ago by cutting a deal with the government to fight for their country, “Motherland: Fort Salem” follows three young women from basic training in combat magic into early deployment. In this world, the traditional roles of gender and power are flipped, with the more dominant women on the front lines fighting looming terrorist threats that are familiar to our world—but with supernatural tactics and weapons.

I've been curious about this for a while. Probably to be expected that there will be a lot of Artistic License – Military going on even accounting for actual magic existing in this universe. It's made me wonder how something like this might actually function in the real world (assuming we had magic, of course).

Definitely. I just hope it doesn't cross over into full-blown misandry.

And you just know there's gonna be "backlash" from guys who go "WIMMENS CAN'T BE IN MILTRY"

Put me down as "cautiously interested." I'm always annoyed at any reference to actual witches at Salem, but I can ignore that.

What channel is this airing on?

Writing a post-post apocalypse LitRPG on RR. Also fanfic stuff.

Restarting this thread for two reasons.

First, my reply to [up]

What channel is this airing on?

Freeform

Second, I saw the trailer. Interested though to be frank I've not read up much on the Salem Witch Trials. I hope the final product can supplement what the trailer had to offer.

For those interested, it'll show two days from now (March 18).

And the pilot has aired. Cautiously optimistic - Taylor Hickson is doing an amazing job of making a character that could so easily be very frustrating sympathetic, the spell work looks very good and feels magical - it helps that so much of it is a group effort.

I am less confident that the villains are going to work out -the spree are just so very vile it is very hard to see why anyone would ever join them. I mean, sure, reality, Boko Haram gets recruits somehow, but.. eek.

Wow, this is a really good series. I think it's going to play out as a White and Gray Fort Salem vs the White and Grey and Black Spree vs the Grey And Black Camaria. Something to remember is that the Spree have a loosely associate cell structure, and I suspect that some cells are worse than others, but the leadership doesn't want them to know that bit. I suspect that the White Spree will be associated with the mother who's leading them.

I will be very intrested to see what they do next
