While the outbreak started around New Year's Day (12/31), it's picking up steam around the Asia-Pacific region especially since Mainland Chinese people tend to travel a lot.

Switzerland today had one minute of silence for our own COVID-19 fatalities.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanI got my first shot last Thursday. I took it because it was the first available slot, but my supervisor said it was a good idea to do it Thursday in case the side effects hit me like a truck the next day.
I get my second shot next Wednesday. I had no serious side-effects from the first, but I did experience an ache in my shoulder and some mild headaches/fatigue for a couple of days.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"I’m very jealous right now because I had chills, joint pain, headache, nausea, fatigue, and felt like my arm was a giant bruise after my second.
i. hear. a. sound.I did feel like someone had punched me in the arm, but nothing else.
Optimism is a duty.My mum and my paternal uncle and aunt got theirs today (not together, it was just a weird coincidence). My dad is nearly due for his second, but doesn't have a date set for it. It'll be interesting to see how that works out.
A society grows great when old men plant trees whose shade they know they will never sit in.Zhang Zhan's starting a hunger strike in jail to protest her sentence/prison treatment.
"Exit muna si Polgas. Ang kailangan dito ay si Dobermaxx!"Seeing all the posts about taking the vaccine just reminds me hat I most likely won't ever see any trace of it myself.
Mostly due to A) Being in the lowest (aka, the "non-risk group") of the population, and B) Vaccination being really, really, slow.
Consider yourselves all lucky for already having your doses at this point.
Yeah, I’m not going to have the chance to be vaccinated for a good while. (Country is currently at 2 million vaccinated, 35 million to go! Woop.)
But that’s not the main factor of consideration for me. Once approximately all seniors (7 million) are vaccinated, I can feel comfortable resuming more normal activities like having friends over and going for hikes with friends, and flying out to visit my family. And it’ll be warm enough for outdoor restaurant dining by then, too.

Just make sure the Brazilian variant also known as P.1 doesn't spread.
From looking over preprints and news it seems like there are serious concerns about whether the vaccines work against it.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanPeruvian Fox News, aka Willax, now said that the Sinopharm vaccine doesn't work, which has caused panic on sectors of the population.
Willax also defends the usage of Ivermectina as mediccine for Covid (It doesn't work, is just a placebo).
Also, the far right candidate now decided to call for the destitution of the president because "the lie".
Watch me destroying my countryFrance is supporting Italy's bid to get Astra blocked for shipping to Australia.
"Exit muna si Polgas. Ang kailangan dito ay si Dobermaxx!"...Ivermectin? My aunt uses that as guinea pig medicine. It's an anti-parasitic drug not something for viruses. Are these people just insane? Or do they actually want as many people as possible to die of this disease?
Sign on for this After The End Fantasy RP.Yep, there is a mass campaign of disinformation for certain groups to make people believe that Ivermectin helps to deal with Covid. As you can imagine, this is the Right Wing loony thing (Hydroxychloroquine is the Bolivian counterpart, by the way)
Its a trap in where many poor people fall because it makes them believe they have things under control. As you said, Ivermectin is guinea pig medicine and we're Peru, literally the first guinea pig breeders
The current far right disinfo campaign is basically "Look, the peruvian government is flawed...ergo, they're lying about everything!!!!!!!" mixed with the typical anti communist scaremongering (which is done by arguing the Center-right parties whose entire worldview is "imma copy what the first world does" are communist)
If you go to search those people, they unironically believe we're now a "Purple Dictatorship", which means that yes, Peru has reached Radical Centrism (thought they will argue is a communist dictatorship)

Had a really weird moment where a guy I was playing MTG Commander with on Spelltable reacted to this card with "That is as fake as this fucking pandemic".
I singled him out the rest of the game. He used a slur when he quit out, directed at my Commander, Animar.
The joys of playing with randos.
Sign on for this After The End Fantasy RP.I guess I am lucky that I have not run into any anti maskers or COVID deniers at my place of work yet, but I'm afraid I'd be unable to hold myself back (not physically mind you) if I did encounter one due to how this whole thing affected me personally with my friend having died to it.
Remember, these idiots drive, fuck, and vote. Not always in that order.I have to deal with people that accept the pandemic is real but doesn't use masks anyway or simply go to walk while coughing.
Watch me destroying my countryI’ve not run into any anti-vaccine folks but my mum has, she gets pretty angry at them on my behalf. As I’ve explained to her that I find the anti-vaccine movement offensive on a personal level, because of how, even if one accepts the anti-science idea that vaccines cause autism, that still means you’re facing a choice between potential autism and a deadly pandemic. As an autistic personal I'm deeply offended by anyone who has trouble making that choice.
My mother has incidentally now had her first vaccine dose. I think it will soon just be my eldest sister, one relative of my partner, myself, and my partner who haven’t been vaccinated out of our immediate family.
"And the Bunny nails it!" ~ Gabrael "If the UN can get through a day without everyone strangling everyone else so can we." ~ CyranI'll be vaccinated this week.
We've had anti-vaxx leaflets posted through the door, but I haven't had any experiences beyond that.
If my post doesn't mention a giant flying sperm whale with oversized teeth and lionfish fins for flippers, it just isn't worth reading. My grandmother got the first dose earlier this week, my dad on Thursday, and my mother just got from hers not long before I started composing this post.
Eating a Vanilluxe will give you frostbite.I've tried getting vaccinated at one of my local pharmacies but I'm young and don't have any health conditions that affect my immune system so I wouldn't be accepted yet.
My grandparents got their first doses last week. That's the riskiest people in my family protected (and they were always safe to ensure they wouldn't get it too).
So I got my first shot today. It was the Pfizer vaccine, and it was at a really big crowded place (since the place I usually go to for shots did not have it).
No negative reactions so far. I think I will be okay between now and March 26 (the day I get the second shot).
