When I saw that one of the fertilized eggs was a monkey, my first thought was that the mega-monkey was actually a lost twin rather than Song herself.

Also random aside, when Scarlemagne and his goons were chasing Song, where did she get the giant net she threw at them?

Thinking on the last two Mega Mute gene splices, I think it's pretty likely that Emilia's group would end up trying to use them at least once.

My reasoning is that since Emilia was pretty much Distracted by the Shiny of Scarlemagne's mind control and seemingly made no effort to like actually probe that deeply into Lio and Song's work on reversing the mutagen during her pheromone harvest, then I don't think it's too much of a leap to suggest she'd be tempted by the power of having a replacement for Song at her disposal, telling herself that it'd only be temporary to get over any compunctions and they'd reverse it. Then probably oops it blows up in her face.

I am not entirely sure how short-sighted Dr. Emila is. She kept the pheromones of Scarlemagne and made the collar for Song Oak and searched many burrows for the Oak family for 13 years. I think she might be impatient on a few areas but I don't think she would want the mutating humans considering how she is repulsed by Kipo's half mute nature.

After watching the first two seasons, I realized that nowhere in the show the word "wonderbeast" is ever spoken. Both the sapient animals and the giant monsters are "mutes".

I have no doubt megamutes are the wonderbeasts since they are essentially giant animals. Even our resident flea is a megamute. But fleas like ants and spiders are still tiny in comparison.

"Wonderbeast" would be an accurate English translation of kaiju, which the mega-mutes certainly are. I just find it weird to have that word in the title but not in the show proper.

It is also the final season according to series writer Ben Mekler. It would cap the series around three seasons and 30 episodes within one year.

Wasn’t sure if the news was out but yes, this is our final season. It was always planned this way, we wrote all three seasons together. So proud of this show hope you love it as much as I do

I already posted about this being the final season, but I didn't see that tweet. It's interesting. Given how all 3 seasons were planned out, I have confidence that there will be a satisfying ending.

Yeah, that makes sense. With the reveal that Giant Monkey Mom wasn't working for Charlemagne but for Team Bad Humans and the inevitable conflict to come against those bad humans - plus both of Kipo's parents having been located - it feels like the story is approaching a natural conclusion. I'd been wondering, with the assumption that Dr. Hatesmutants gets resolved in season three, where the story could even go from there?

Definitely can't shake the ugly feeling that Charlemagne is going to be "redeemed" (BLECH), though. Especially if they're planning to wrap things up here. I had an awful feeling that the only reason for him to have survived the events of season two is if a redemption is planned for him, and hearing that the finale is nigh only makes that feeling much, much stronger.

Also have a bad feeling that Benson's going to wind up being another name on the list of LGBT "last five seconds of the series finale" hookups. I was already seeing red flags when season two shoved Troy into an icebox so they could freeze the Benson/Troy ship in its tracks for the duration of the season.

But I'm glad the story will be able to end on its own terms rather than dragging out into a Franchise Zombie, introducing random new villains each season for the sake of just having more adventures with Kipo and her crew. This feels like the right place to wrap up.

I wonder if we could call Kipo a "limited series" because of all three seasons being released over the course of just ten months.

Nope. The existence of multiple seasons, regardless of how quickly they're released, disqualifies it from the definition of a limited series. Limited series are one-season shows telling a complete story from start to finish, as opposed to one-season shows that were cancelled before they could complete the story in subsequent seasons.

[up][up][up]I have the feeling they're planning to do a redemption story with Scarlemagne, too. They were already hinting at it in Season 2, giving him a sympathetic backstory (I mean, one of the episodes was literally called "Sympathy for the Mandrill"), as well as him trying to befriend Kipo in his own sick, twisted way. But there might be surprises.

@Tobias Drake And even though they were almost certainly made from a single work cycle each of the first two seasons is structured to have a definite arc with a climactic finale, so it's not like Netflix took a long miniseries and then arbitrarily divided it into smaller parts.

I still can't believe we're in the final season already. The first season premiered in January.

Finished the season yesterday and there's a lot to process. I was overall satisfied with the final season and ending. I know people were more into the exploration of different tribes and cultures, so this season had even less of that. I think they did the right thing in prioritizing the conclusion of the story and character arcs. We still got some neat new mutes like the K-Pop narwhals and the squirrels.

This show was always going to be optimistic about the co-habitation between mutes and humans, so I wasn't surprised that the humans would come around. Setting the finale at Prahm was odd, but completely in-character for Kipo. I liked that the show walked the fine line between supporting her philosophy while also showing that not everyone can be redeemed. Kipo tried to give Emilia a second chance again and again, even after finding out she killed her brother to push her anti-mute agenda, but she ultimately earned her gruesome fate. I like that Mandu, the first mute Kipo shows mercy to, is the one that defeats Emilia's bigotry and hatred.

It was pretty cool that we FINALLY got some backstory on Benson and Dave. I always felt it weird they didn't delve into it before, but now I see why. It was pretty cute , though a bit tonally weird considering it lend into human and mute genocide. I liked the focus on Wolf and Kipo's relationship near the end, especially the former abandoning her wolf hoodie in order to move on.

That actually dovetails into some of my negatives. I think a few storylines get unnecessarily dropped or at least badly handled. The vaccine plot just comes and goes without any fanfare. I almost forgot it even existed. So, Margot sort-of betrays Wolf, and then her and her sibling get cured. That's it? We don't see Wolf's reaction or anything? Also, while I did like Hugo's redemption, and that it doesn't necessarily absolve him of his crimes or erase his more ruthless behavior, his sacrifice felt pointless. It didn't really do anything significant to Mega Mute Emilia and it just felt like a way to put some bitterness in an otherwise sweet ending. Let him stay alive to both make up for his wrongdoings and actually be part of the Oak family again.

Still, I thought it was an enjoyable finale. I like that this show lasted as long as it did and it managed to tell its story without interruption. I would be happy to see those spin-off movies, though, as there is tons of world and a large enough cast to explore.

I think Emilia is actually are fairly realistic depiction of a bigot. Most bigots that you see in animated shows and other forms of media are that way either due to a misunderstanding or because someone of the group they dislike wronged them in the past (like Scarlemagne/Hugo). With Emilia it's because her parents and/or society have institutionalised it for her and she believes is so strongly that she'll both attack anyone who tells her otherwise and refuses to acknowledge things that go against what she's decided is the truth.

Reminds me of one antagonist from One Piece whose bigotry isn't rooted in any actual negative experiences with the race he hated but was instead a product of growing up in a negative environment.

That would be Hody Jones, and there's also other thing that Hody and Emilia shares: they both are willing to sacrifice members of their own race to reach their goal: for Hody it was his fellow fish-man, who he used as a shield for Zoro's attack, and for Emilia it was her brother, who was also reason Ratland became safe zone for humans as well.
