I've been strongly looking forward to this series. I saw episode one and had fun. Going to work through the rest of it tonight and tomorrow.
Latest blog update (November 5th, 2022).Absolutely fantastic show
Is it me or does this show reminds me of the Kamandi comics written by Jack Kirby?
I've really been enjoying this so far.
It was my first thought, really.
Latest blog update (November 5th, 2022).Finally finished watching this series and I love it. The art is gorgeous, the world is compelling and the characters are very likable. I liked how the series unfolded a lot of worldbuilding, character backgrounds and other info without feeling clumsy. The highlight to me is the soundtrack.
My only nitpick is that I wished I learned more about Benson and Dave. They felt underdeveloped compared to Kipo and Wolf. I hope season two rectifies this.
Latest blog update (November 5th, 2022).So that was interesting ._. Wasn't initially sure on art style but it did grow on me. It keeps reminding me of something but I'm not sure what and that keeps throwing me off
Could be Voltron or Avatar. The animation studio that did this did the new Voltron series, and a lot of the fight scenes in Korra(which really shows the few times I've gotten to see Wolf show off so far, it has that same flow).
:smug:This style actually makes me think of Teen Titans, a lot of background characters had designs like the main cast of this
I watched this when it came out and really liked it! The visuals were very distinct and colorful. The soundtrack was my favorite part! I'd be awesome if Dreamworks put it on Youtube or Spotify - just the music, not the dialogue of the characters. (I'd like to hear the whole Newton Wolves' rap without the characters talking over it XD)
My one complaint is that the voice actress for Kipo uses nearly the same voice for her as she does for Glimmer from She-Ra, and it breaks the suspension of disbelief for me a bit XO I'm really sensitive to voices in animation. But that's no reason to not watch the show. If you like cartoons, this is a good one to watch!
(PS: I know you could say, ah, but Dee Bradly Baker uses his same Pig Voice for Mondu as he did for Waddles from Gravity Falls and I'm like, yes, that also annoyed me, but she is a pig. Pigs make the pig sounds XP)
Creator of Heroes of Thantopolis: http://heroesofthantopolis.com/I really like Wolf's backstory. It shows a very cruel kind of abuse where people pretend to love someone, only to betray them for personal gain. This abuse doesn't even have to be premeditated. Wolf actually had a close relationship with her one of her sisters. Wolf's tolerant sister legitimately liked the human who joined her family. They were outcasts together, as no one wanted to play-fight with her either. But the moment she had to choose? That human was abandoned as different within seconds. Friendly Sister was friendly and tolerant when it was safe for her to be so, but not when it was dangerous.
Still, Wolf wearing her adoptive mother as a cloak is kinda cold.

I think the hide is one of the young wolves.
It is the mother. Look at the ears.
Huh, it does kinda look like Teen Titans ._. Maybe that was it?
Just started watching it and it's pretty good so far. I like that "mid 2000's anime inspired" art style, with a lot of sharp angles and such. It's rare to see that anymore, most modern cartoons are a lot smoother and rounder in terms of art style.
On Episode 4 and this is definitely a great show, where (uh idk if it should be untagged) immediately discarding the quest to go home after the first story for a more interesting narrative that gives Kipo greater conflict to grapple with was what really gave me confidence that this show is going somewhere good.
I've seen it compared to Derric Wyatt's art style, but I'm pretty sure it's just Rad Sechrist's art direction. His original webcomic was also pretty sharp.
Latest blog update (November 5th, 2022).Currently on episode 6, the Ratland folks are going to be very hard to top so far in terms of the post-apoc cliques that have sprung up.
I'm very happy with how they bluntly revealed Benson's gay and reinforced it with his fantasy.
It's not just the bluntness of the scene that works, but also how awkward it is. A lot of unrequited love confessions tend to be awkward instead of melodramatic messes we often see in fictional works. I'm glad this show was honest about that.
Latest blog update (November 5th, 2022).Finished the season, it's very good and I hope Netflix lets the crew continue the story to its natural conclusion.
For a finale, it's weirdly muted since Kipo's dream vision was a weird divider for the two halves and it felt really tonally off.
I love how Kipo's empathy was ultimately their biggest boon for making it through and it's just overall a great post-apoc story. Invoking Nier: Automata might be a bit much, but I'm very reminded of that with how the mutes are trying to imitate what they know about people and defining themselves completely by those traits, with the existence of humans compounding the issue.
Next season I hope gives some Dave and Benson backstory because it seems like Dave has been roughing it ever since the actual apocalypse. Also more Jamack because he's an oddly sympathetic antagonist who hopefully hasn't been killed off.
It's a Dreamworks series, so it has a set number of episodes. It's very likely they have their story planned out from beginning to end.
Latest blog update (November 5th, 2022).Watched through the whole thing. It's really good and I can't wait for the next season. The cliffhanger fakeout on the last episode got me pretty good.
