Opened...leaning toward 1.2 pending other ideas.
There's also this image from Monster Prom:

Current Project: Incorruptible Pure PurenessThat's not bad, either.
I just wish it came out a bit bigger, but you guys are better at resizing images than I am, so I'm not too worried.
Current Project: Incorruptible Pure PurenessI don't think not knowing the source is a good enough reason to replace an image. Keep the current. I tried to use the images list to find who uploaded it (it was there for all of the page's history I can see), but it doesn't look like I can search by file name.
Keet cleanupWhat if it's fan art? We can't just use something if we don't even have an inkling of where it came from.
Current Project: Incorruptible Pure PurenessYeah. It's against policy to use anything where we can't credit the creator. And it's not like this is a trope where the concept is particularly esoteric or hard to illustrate either.
Swear I've seen those character designs before... I wanna say Casper's Scare School fanart, but I don't think that's it.
Jawbreakers on sale for 99¢Some suggestions from Monsters University? [1]◊[2]◊[3]◊
Any actual screenshots from the film?
Current Project: Incorruptible Pure PurenessI prefer the current, assuming we can dig up the source.
1.1 doesn't really get the school part across; it looks more like a church or a museum. 1.2 and 3 don't really show monsters all that well, they look just like Amazing Technicolor Population.

Rhetorical, eh? ... Eight! If the Monster Prom example were bit bigger it'd be easier to see the more monstrous qualities, besides the characters being technicolor; you got a devil, a fish-girl, a werewolf, a gorgon...
Edit: Resized it, does this help?

Current Project: Incorruptible Pure PurenessThe characters look noticeably squashed

PSA: a cat is not a dogThat one is pretty good.
I'll give my Monster Prom image one more shot though by changing the dimensions again and seeing if I can make it look... not bad.
Edit: Nah, not possible, I give.

I rather like that one.
Same.
(Annoyed grunt)That's pretty good.
16.
Currently mostly inactive. An incremental game I tested: https://galaxy.click/play/176 (Gods of Incremental)Can anyone else try using the images list to search for the image and find the uploader, so I know it's not just a problem I'm having?
Keet cleanupNo, I couldn't find who uploaded it through the image uploader either. But I'd still rather have a pic which we know the source of and is definitely work-related.
Currently mostly inactive. An incremental game I tested: https://galaxy.click/play/176 (Gods of Incremental)The problem with 16 is that it doesn't show off the "classic" monsters, which doesn't illustrate what the trope usually looks like. It works, but something that uses ghosts, vampires, werewolves ect would be a lot better. I'd prefer finding a better quality image from Monster Prom or tracking down the source on the current one.
Yeah, I was sort of feeling that way about it too. Like it illustrates an example. But not the typical example. Unfortunately the backgrounds for the Monster Prom C Gs seem pretty limited - the "prom" banner in that background is both about as detailed and as schooly as they seem to get. I didn't have the patience to go through the all though.
I'd totally put money on the current being either an original one-off work, or maybe the cover page to a webcomic.

Yeah, the only other option for Monster Prom is the cover-art, but they aren't very "Schooly" in those images.

Nominations for replacement images:
The current is a really good image, but it doesn't have a source - and a reverse image search just pulls up reposts and articles related to this wiki.
This feels like it should be a relatively easy trope to illustrate, so I think we might be better off just finding a relacement.
A couple of Monster High images to get the ball rolling - but I'm not super sold on either of them and would like to see more suggestions: [1]◊, [2]◊.
