MisbegottenMultiplayerMode: Should it be YMMV?

My impression of this trope is that an originally single-player game has a multiplayer mode that ends up being clunky or riddled with problems that make it less enjoyable, whether that's due to poor execution or the original premise of the game just not meant for multiplayer. From the trope description, "painful" and "feels like an afterthought" kind of feel like opinion indicators.

The first example I ever even saw of this trope (that helped me understand it) was actually placed on the work's YMMV page.

Yeah, it probably should be. There's always gonna be some defenders of shoehorned multiplayer modes, no matter how bad they actually are.
