Your right, the game is actually quite smooth for the most part. If the concern of bugs is too much to bear than just wait until the first patch and then go for the game, as it's still a great title, if you're a fan of old school metroidvanias.
Quirce is probably my favorite boss in the game. His fireporting attack was kinda cheap in how it could potentially trap you in a death loop but once you figure him out he's fun and his attacks were cool.

I have one last Moonlight Child to find. I just know I'm going to be looking for it all over Cvstodia.
"I squirm, I struggle, ergo I am. Faced with death, I am finally, truly alive."So I got this a few days back.
It's a fun game, even if some of its quirks can throw you in for a loop (like how you need to be perfectly central on the ladder to grab onto it, or how you can't walljump if you got hit) and some essential puzzles for getting the much-needed Relics can be more than a little obscure, but frankly, the aesthetic is what resonates with me the most. The morbid Not!Catholicism of Cvstodia is something that I, coming from a near-uniformly Catholic country with a history of revering martyrdom culture, can relate to and pick apart as absolutely terrible.
I'm at the final boss; I'll yet see if I can figure out how to go for the true ending yet.
I think the game's big enough to have a Characters' page, concerning the main characters (I guess Penitent One, Deogracias, Crisanta (who I hear has an expanded role in a comic) and Escribar, the NPC's and the bosses. There's a bit of info on just about everyone, given how rich the lore descriptions are.
As far as bugs go, the most consistent one was that levels wouldn't load and force me to hard-close the game - which would then close my Steam as well. On my second go at His Holiness the game straight-up closed on me after the first phase. I guess the ways of the Miracle are fickle like that.

Blasphemous 2.0 update went live some hours ago.
A number of QOL updates, including updated platforming, fixing some of the most egregious bugs (like the loss of progress one, though it's not written in the patch notes or buggy Guilts). There's also a new execution in game on Spears of Cathedra (flying chair popes) and a teaser image of what might be the DLC proper.
That post mentions free DLC. Color me intrigued.
I'm looking forward to seeing what designs they come up with for the DLC.
"I squirm, I struggle, ergo I am. Faced with death, I am finally, truly alive."Reviving this thread since the developers just announced free DLC coming out on August 4. It's titled "The Stir of Dawn" and will have New Game Plus, new areas to explore, and new story content.
I'm already loving the designs for the new stuff.

"I squirm, I struggle, ergo I am. Faced with death, I am finally, truly alive."Some more details on The Stir of Dawn
:
- New Game Plus (True Torment):
- Enemies are tougher and stronger
- Mea Culpa Hearts and Upgrades, Rosary Beads and Prayers carry over; Health, Fervor and Bile Flasks do not.
- The Penitence System - you'll be offered a choice between three penances; each affects the playstyle. Completing them rewards you with a skin and a unique Rosary Bead:
- Penitence of the Unwavering Faith - Melee attacks half as effective, Fervor recharges over time, taking damage will reduce Fervor.
- Penitence of the Bleeding Heart - HP bar replaced by Life Orbs, Bile Flasks replenish multiple orbs but healing is stopped if you take damage in the middle of it, enemies respawn each time you enter the room.
- Penitence of the True Guilt - All Tears will be placed on the Guilt Fragment, Guilt Level is put on maximum if you die, Bile Flasks don't heal and instead replenish Fervor.
- The Amanecidas - three powerful bosses, each with a unique moveset and abilities. Defeating them all lets you fight their master, "the most difficult boss fight in the game".
- The Stir of Dawn is only accessible in NG+
- New NPC's, some of them only available in NG+.
- Albero gets a dog. You can give it scritches.
We'll get more info on the DLC in two days, concerning various QOL improvements and rebalancing.
Part two of the info on Stir of Dawn
:
- Map's resolution can be adjusted. You can place manual markers on your points of interest; there's also the completion meter for rooms cleared.
- More fast travel - you can upgrade Prie Dieus to become warp points! More natural shortcuts to be found, too.
- Overall prayer buff, though now they might cost more.
- A number of Rosary Beads and Hearts have been fixed to do what they're supposed to.
- Ranged attack of Mea Culpa now scales with your upgrade level.
- Tweaks to overall combat; enemies are more responsive, the player hitbox was tweaked.
- Easier ways to get executions for the visual flair; Lunge and Charge attacks can now stun enemies in correct circumstances.
- Overall visual update to the locales.
"The Stir of Dawn" is now live. I won't be able to play it now, but I'm looking forward to seeing what's new in the game.
"I squirm, I struggle, ergo I am. Faced with death, I am finally, truly alive."The map markers help a ton, honestly. That way there won't be any missing beats I might have missed. You get them in a couple variations, too, so you can differentiate what is what (i.e. the candles, puzzles etc. )
I'll say though, much as I like the new transitional location, the lantern jumping is dumb. This is the only place in the game where you'll even have to lantern jump, unless NG+ plans to surprise me.
Blasphemous: Strife and Ruin
coming to all players as a free update:
- Platforming challenges to master
- a Boss Rush mode
- ...also, it's crossed over with Bloodstained, featuring Miriam herself (the trailer suggests she'll be a prayer, but her role as a character seems bigger).
Nice to see this game still getting free updates.
"I squirm, I struggle, ergo I am. Faced with death, I am finally, truly alive."Necroing this thread since a trailer for the final DLC was recently released:
The DLC is titled "Wounds of Eventide" and it will be a free update on December 9. Also, apparently there's going to be a sequel released sometime in 2023.
"I squirm, I struggle, ergo I am. Faced with death, I am finally, truly alive.""Wounds of Eventide" is now available. We also have a trailer for the free update.
The snake boss looks awesome. I've always been a sucker for a cool-looking snake.
"I squirm, I struggle, ergo I am. Faced with death, I am finally, truly alive."

Wouldn't really use the word Eurojank for this one, because the game is generally pretty smooth besides some mentioned bugs.
