I just discovered this person on YouTube, member name is LegalEagle (real first name is Devin) who is a real life lawyer, and has been doing videos discussing the accuracies (or mistakes) TV shows or movies make when featuring real legal matters.
He already has many videos up, but this video
is a good starting point, where he discusses the infamous series finale to Seinfeld.
Mod Note
There is a forum-wide ban on discussing US politics, which remains in place as long at the dedicated US Politics thread
is locked.
If a new episode goes back onto that subject (or any of the other banned topics
) then you are not allowed to discuss it. You can discuss any video about anything else, just not related to US politics.
If this becomes a problem, posts will be thumped and there may be further consequences.
We've already had to lock this thread once. If we have to lock it again, it's likely to remain locked for a very long time — and may not get unlocked at all. We'd really like to avoid that.

Wait, are we allowed to talk about this or not? Because if we are, you may as well post the video. But if not, we need to drop it.
Writing a post-post apocalypse LitRPG on RR. Also fanfic stuff.Red Note is interesting in that the CCP is worried enough about Westerners interacting with Chinese citizens they are making plans to wall each part off from the other.
The other interesting tidbit is how using said app is allowing a lot of cultural exchange where people are able to humanize the other side. Also they really like Luigi Mangione. This naturally ties into the above since it allows people to learn the good and bad about the other nation in a way that isn’t filtered via media or the news.
It’s likely because Tik Tok is already shown to be working worse than before it was banned that the targeted audience will likely stay on Red Note.

Every accusation by the GOP is ALWAYS a confession. My feelings on the TikTok ban aside (or more specifically, my feelings on the government allowing the privacy violations of all the other social media platforms to slide), it is genuinely great to see that sort of thing happen, with disparate groups interacting without censorship.
Of course, as noted, China is likely going to respond to that problem by indeed censoring it, but it's nice while it lasts.

"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"That can (and has) been used as an "everything proof shield" against any change to platforms whatsoever. It's a red herring argument.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"I just don't like how the world has apparently gone all "personal privacy means nothing, who cares if all the social media apps are basically spyware." The only discussions of this situation I've heard are either "how dare the government interfere in free enterprise just because it's Chinese" or "it was literally a foreign spy program, though."
Overall, it really feels like people think the only way to get better and more useful technology is with less privacy and rights. As if the two are inextricably linked, and if you complain about privacy violations you're immediately saying all social media is evil.
Writing a post-post apocalypse LitRPG on RR. Also fanfic stuff. The only alternative is to not engage with such platforms. But I guess that's a bridge too far for those already used to using them.
It's not even advancing technology either. It's not like these apps actually push technical boundaries to a significant degree.

Disgusted, but not surprisedSarcastically breaking the rules is still breaking the rules.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"Also, it would be nice if we could discuss this subject in one place rather than a half-dozen different places. Makes it easier to post accurate information and have it seen by everyone. Let's merge into the Social Media
thread if possible.
New video out on weird driving laws. It's lighter fare than a lot of the recent stuff. Weirdly the first story is about truck nuts and how a grandma was hauled in for public indecency after installing a pair on her truck. There's other stuff like that in some states you can't buy a vehicle on a Sunday. There's also a law banning shooting animals from vehicles in California, which, okay?
The reason any law exists is because some idiot did something stupid and dangerous and someone else thought There Should Be a Law.
Hence, the reason the law against shooting animals from your vehicle exists in California is likely because idiots kept doing it. And they probably kept hitting things other than said animals. Like other vehicles and people.
Disgusted, but not surprisedOf course, the weird thing is that these laws get more specific than necessary. It's probably unsafe to fire a gun from your vehicle period, no matter what you're aiming at. I believe it's usually against police procedure to do such a thing, for example. So why pass a law specifically against shooting animals?

The more specific a law, the harder it is to weasel your way out of being convicted.
Different charges can also merit different ranges of punishments as well.
And now I'm wondering if said law also applies to people trying to shoot whales from a boat in California's coastal waters (that at least is a more plausible scenario than trying to snipe a whale from your Range Rover or something).
