Work/Recap YMMV discussion

Go To

The purpose of this thread is to discuss issues of YMMV policy and maintenance on a Franchise/Work/Instalment/Episode/Issue level, as well as discussing which items go on which YMMV page.

    Work/Recap YMMV Discussion Overview

Due to the non-negotiable standards of certain items, such as Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard, if an example appearing in a single instalment/issue/episode is approved by their respective threads, the entry is required to be posted on the work YMMV page as a whole (or the appropriate subpage for the work), as well as the page of the instalment/episode/issue where applicable.

Similarly, because Ensemble Dark Horse, The Scrappy and The Woobie only list straight examples, it is worthwhile to put their examples on the work YMMV/appropriate subpage and the recap/instalment YMMV.

If a narrative specific item, such as They Wasted a Perfectly Good Plot, Arc Fatigue, Author's Saving Throw, Big-Lipped Alligator Moment, or Idiot Plot only appears in a particular episode/instalment, it only needs to be posted on the YMMV for said instalment. However, if such items reoccur throughout a work, they need to go to the work or franchise-wide YMMV, or the appropriate subpage.

With regards to YMMV items with No On-Page Examples, it may be worthwhile to restrict such items to the YMMV for the recap of the episode/instalment where the item is listed, since if a series has a large proportion of such items, listing such items in a subpage would not be permitted, while listing every instance of such an item on the primary YMMV would possibly be an exercise in futility.

If you are not sure whether an item belongs on a work YMMV page, or only the YMMV page for the instalment/issue/episode, please feel free to ask the thread.

Should I add a link to this thread to the YMMV.Homepage and Audience Reactions? It may be a worthwhile resource for people who need clarification on where they might want to put certain YMMV items.

Should YMMV.Nintendo be deleted for being a YMMV page for a creator, or does it discuss their games enough that it can stay?

I think the focus should be on their works if it is kept. I would encourage people who are more familiar to weigh in, however.

I say stay, but the page needs a look over, especially the Broken Base section.

I also noticed an ATT inquiring about the possibility of indexing individual YMMV pages on an episodic basis, recap by recap. I am curious regarding how this would be carried out. I personally believe that the recap YMMV pages should be indexed on the work-wide YMMV, along with any item-specific subpages. I would personally suggest to ~Emerald Sky that the YMMV pages not be indexed on the recap pages, since those are for episode recaps. Perhaps for larger shows, divide the YMMV pages by season, or group of seasons as the case may be. The more I think about it, the more I suspect that indexing YMMV pages may be an exercise in futility, but I still believe such a concept is worthy of discussion, at least.

[up] Agreed. It would be convenient to be able to find the Recap YMMV pages in one place but indexing them isn't practical. "Exercise in futility" is exactly how I'd put it.

The Flash (2014) already sorts entries by season and that works pretty well for it.
