Marcus - Squad 1

Marcus landed a few feet away from where he had just shattered Messiah like a pane of glass during an Earthquake...and promptly almost fell to a knee, blood splurting out of his nose from psychic power overuse - thus staining his outfit and face bright red. His leg ached monstrously, and his face was stinging from the number of cuts and scrapes, his hero uniform torn up and in pieces.

But still, Marcus forced himself back to standing up. His eyes at first on the sky. Seeing everything readily fleeing. The war was over. Messiah was dead. Messiah...was...dead. Marcus pumped one fist into the air and let out one final war cry as he almost fell backward from the exertion.

Trembling and almost falling over, Marcus dragged himself back over. There wasn't enough of Messiah left to fill an ash tray by now. But he just had to... "FUCK! YOU!! Fuck you, Nitram...Anti-Martin...whatever, just fuck you! You came here with your god complex and you're...you're in a billion pieces now! You blew up everything, and you got nothing outta this!"

Laughing despite himself and swaying on his feet, Marcus looked around and then propped himself up on a section of fallen building. We did it. We did it. He's dead. At long last...

He then saw what state Holiday was in, and what she was doing with that last weapon of hers. He snapped himself out of it and went running over toward her. He ignored his aching leg, and the way the world seemed to be subtly spinning around him. Kneeling down by her and forcing the gun away from her chin, Marcus said, "H-Hol—-Holiday...stop, its over, we won...I-I can get you to...uh, to Armada, get you repaired and all..."

He went and picked her up, and quickly began bolting off to the school to get her to Armada. Get her repaired, before she could do anything drastic.

Squad 1 - Vs Messiah - Nariko

She prepared to back Marcus up, drawing more knives to keep Messiah distracted, but that proved unnecessary. Marcus shattered him into a thousand pieces.

It was over.

Her knives fell from her shaking hands as she processed everything. She dropped to her knees, suddenly feeling exhaustion strike her. Inhaling and exhaling, Nariko slowly rose.

Then she started moving again, quickly catching up to the retreating Marcus, running alongside him and matching his pace.

"Babe. Let me carry her. I'm faster." She said, smiling tiredly. "You've done enough for today. You can rest."

It wasn't lost on her that both she and Marcus had killed someone today. She wondered if it was a first for him like it was for her. The spaced-out way he was acting made her suspect it was. Either way, she didn't think any less of him, or of herself. There had been no other choice.

Nonetheless, she made a quick mental note that both of them should see Laurie at some point. Maybe together; having that shared experience could help them both cope.

But for now, she would get Holiday to someone who could fix her. And then they could all rest.

What is so amusing about this? Why do you take lives? How can you forget?

Zach

Zach stared ahead from his prone position on the ground and felt his stress, his strain, the intense terror he felt during that whole fight just...melt.

Almost literally.

He felt...accomplished. Content. Without strain and without concern. They’d done it. Against mostly one sided odds they’d done it. They beat messiah, saved the world and...

A wave of exhaustion hit him like a ton of bricks and he gave a silent exhausted grin as he laid there.

‘...Yeah....I think I can just...retire now.’

He chuckled. Boy what a thought.

Holiday – Foundation Ruins

M̴͠i͏͟s҉̛si̶͘͝o͡n͏̴̕ ͡ą͠ć͟͡c̷͘o͞m͜҉͞p͞͠li̢͏͝–

Thankfully Holiday was either unwilling or too weak to resist Marcus' attempt at redirecting her weapon away from her, and it tugged away from her chin in defeat before collapsing slowly back into her hand again. The ACP blinked sluggishly up at him, appearing to mimic a heaving sigh—only for her to groan as he picked her up, her dead weight and limp limbs undoubtedly making carrying her an awkward process.

“Ma͏à͢aa҉͡͞r͟ŗ̴҉rr͠͝c-͢͜ų̢͞-u-u͘͟͝-̶̨́u҉-̶͢s,” she slurred, hands harmlessly beating at him in an attempt to get him to let go. She didn't get past his name, however, as she'd diverted her attention to his words again—and it was clear that her brain was getting stuck in places by the repeated clicking noises from inside her skull.

“...Ẃ͜w͜ww͠ee̴eee҉҉ ̡ẃ͏͠o̵͏o̷͡o͏͜n̵͟͞n̴͝n?̧” she repeated with what may have been a distorted hopeful tone, before her gaze fell away from him and down towards herself. She seemed to recognize that she was badly injured, and most startlingly appeared to tear up for what might've been the first time anyone had seen—small droplets of coolant fluid leaking from her eyes as her whole body became wracked with heavy shudders once more.

“͘̕͢I̸͟-͡I̡̛-͢͠I͏̸̛-́͜Í͘͞-̴̨Į–”

No words to explain herself. Her voicebox was failing now. She was clearly distraught, and had begun trying to claw at her offending appendage with her other hand in an apparent (though weak) attempt to pull it off. Only then did she peg that they were moving away from the battlefield, and she suddenly cried out in defiance—reaching over his shoulder back towards the others in desperation to get to them.

“͠͡N̴̶̡-̨o̴͘-̸̢́o̵͟-̕ò̸̶-̢̛͢ó̷̵.̕͏͢ ͢W͘a̶͘n̸͘͡t̸͏ ̕͢to̢ ̛̛͘h̡͞͡-̢͟͏Ę͟͡-͡e̡-͘E͏̕-͜l͏̡-̷͜p̡̧–”

fZzZt

A spark burst from her throat, and she fell completely silent. Her voice had blown itself dead. With this she seemed to curl into herself as much as physically possible, the shaking again having overwhelmed her form. It was rhythmic, interjected with mechanical groans and heaves from pistons. More droplets fell from her eyes but it was clear this wasn't designed to happen.

Holiday was sobbing, and this was the only way the machine could emulate it.

Rebecca - Ruins

This didn't feel like a victory. That was all that Rebecca could think as she stared at the rubble that was a sizable portion of Super City. The casualties had been too high, the collateral damage too immense. The civilians had been evacuated, but now a good number of them had nowhere to come home to.

She fell to her knees. Mentally, she knew she'd done the best she could, protected as many lives as she could have possibly managed. There were just too many heavy-hitters too far out of her weight class. Still, it didn't change the fact that as everything finally came to an end, all she could feel was defeat.

Iris - The Eldritch Plane

As Iris retreated back into her portal upon the end of the fight, she could feel her borrowed power leaving her, returning to its true master. Despite herself, she shuddered.

Ahl'kuur may have been her patron and the object of her family's worship, but having actually met it, Iris could say with certainty that it was a fickle, self-absorbed being that saw others only as toys for its amusement. The fact that she was so reliant on such a being filled her with unease. Especially after borrowing such immense power, even temporarily. The dwellers of this plane were not the kind to forgive or forget debts.

Squad 2

Ryuu could only shake his head at everything that happened. In the end, Messiah was just like a kid, throwing a tantrum to a world he just couldn't accept. And instead of adapting to this crazy, cruel world, he and everyone else tried to change it by force, making it bend to their will. But that effort was probably doomed to fail, and in the end, just nearly destroyed their world's spirit and who knows how many of themselves.

What did I do in there? He thought Did I die? Am I still out there?

For now, he had to check on whoever was still alive, and see what he could do.

A dog-like creature walked to him, as a piece of paper formed again.

There is a lot he had to do yet, even if he wondered where is the best place to do it.

Ow

And a rather bad leg burn to check.

That's his life, and that's how he came to accept it.

Squad 1, some time later

I really didn't like myself Sam thought as he came to. While he could barely even tell he was in the Abyss, the world felt so distant his mind just drifted inwards, which given the time, it was rather welcome. He had a lot to put back into place, and he wasn't only talking of his battered flesh and bones.

He still wondered how things keep coming to this. Somehow, every other wannabe ruler of the world kept going after them. And now, his own twisted reflection went to town with him. Whatever made them go bad, he didn't want to know, and in the end, god knows how many times a big player in shaping the world has ended up shattering it in other universes.

And now, he had to think on what he wanted now, and who he'll have to say good-bye to now.

No, not good bye He resolved. There is a lot of people he wanted to keep close now, and he refused to just walk out of their lives now. He still had to build his own life, after all.

There is a lot to do, and maybe at some point, he'll give a rich kid he knew a visit.

No rest for the wicked

Wake me up at your own risk.

IW - Picking Up

"Hn. That will make politics in the other world interesting." Mahvash only watched Saint hit the ground long enough to observe his body crumbling like well stone and confirm his death. She'd already seen that show. Eh, well, the stone thing had more special effects.

"Wait what?!" White hot light? Tch. Mahvash did not so much fly as tunnel through space to grab Martin when he went flying. "You know I'm used to this." Her straight expression didn't change, but it only took a bit for her to revise it to: "No. No, actually I'm not."
She had rather expected Nitram to self-destruct out of spite. Mahvash still kept her senses trained on where he stood for a time. Went out just like this world's Saint. That's funny.

"It seems clear," she commented slowly while picking up Ryuu as well. Strength was not her thing but she could support people while flying. And the tentacles she had deformed her arms into—meant for Holiday—helped. The moment Ryuu blinked, she could get them there. Then pick up Holiday. "I'll get you two to Nurse Hello, then I'll leave before you have to explain your condition to Sally. I'll bring Iris when I find her. And Holiday."

What was this the second time Holiday tried to kill herself?    Alex Selby, Katherine Thomas! I'll have you at the location of the old Saint University at once! And bring repair tools and plans. You'll be working with Armada and Rienbach.    If they didn't answer, that would not stop her from picking them up.

This left Liam—though he was phoning it in even if Vivian wasn't there to deal with him—and any scattered Savior soldiers who just lost their leader very publicly and without any glory. And then the Saviors that retreated and others like Kenon. Clean up the rest of this invasion, collect samples of things, make lessons based on what they'd learned, make sure her own associates came out of this intact... stay busy while the group's recovering.

Marcus - Squad 1

Marcus looked at Holiday and sighed, "Yeah, we won, Holiday." And then handed her to Nariko, his body was aching and his nose was still dripping blood. She did have a point... As Marcus handed her over to Nariko to head off to the university.

Once Holiday was in Nariko's capable hands, Marcus collapsed to his knees and again started laughing. Finally, that bastard was dead. Now things could move forward. He wasn't in the Saint's shadow any more. Astonishing, isn't it? He thought to himself, I only succeeded when I accepted the more monstrous side of me.

Tracing a finger on the cut on his face, Marcus then got back up to his feet despite the ache in his leg and started the long trek to the university's infirmary. Not saying a word.

Psychic Brothers

"So, just off like that?" Cole stood on the top of a ruined skyscraper, in the midst of what used to be an office. Ignis stood in front of him, before a yawning blue portal, his minions already having made their way back to base.

"You know that all this heroic nonsense is more your number than mine," Kenon replied, looking out over the ruin of Super City. "And...your world is going to get soooo much more complicated due to this...but you probably already know that, Sage."

Cole shook his head, and looked at his twin, "So...what? Are you going to be exacting the price for the collaboration now?"

"Oh Cole," Ignis stated coyly, "That's already underway. For...a little while, at least, you won't have to worry about little old me. Though...your son is another matter."

"Tyson?" Cole asked, suddenly going slack somewhat, "Is he...?"

"He still despises you. He is after all my son now." Kenon responded with a chuckle, "You...might see him around. You might not. It all depends on him. You know how his emotions rule him...not that different from you, now that I think about it."

Cole looked down, and then said, "One day I'll make sure you let go of my world."

"And one day," Kenon said with a slight smile, "I'll annihilate every single aspect of your life. Fare thee well, my twin and my archnemesis."

"Goodbye...Kenon." Cole watched him go through that portal, and he was gone. Cole looked out at the world beyond that burnt tower and then nodded. He didn't need to be a psychic to know that things were gonna be different from now on. The world had weathered an invasion from its own mirror opposite, the city had been attacked by a giant, world-rending serpent and then nuked a few times for measure...

Yeah, whatever his family was up to would be the least of his concerns going forward.

Firebrand

A young girl stood atop one of the few untouched buildings in the city with a pair of binoculars, watching the end of the fight with a small sigh on her lips. "Well that was about what could be expected. No sense of class at all."

Clay tipped his hat over his eyes. "Still, made a damn fine mess before he went, who woulda thought?"

Evelyn put a hand on both Clay and the girls shoulders. "Still, we were able to get everything we needed out of this right, I don't want to stay here when there are so many risks to you."

The girl nodded, reaching to the ground and pulling out cylindrical vessel, containing a round ball of burning fire, the archangel that Messiah had summoned by the name Rama. It had been simple to contain the being after a little bit of work and it would provide a rather decent power source. "Big brother Renegade, a touch of Violet's power, and my own Chaos Factor. Only one more piece is missing."

Evelyn turned and her third eye glowed for a moment, a portal opening before them. "We'll be with you every step of the way."

Clay grinned. "Thats what family does after all."

I.W.-Martin

It would be a few hours after the battle when Martin finally woke up, feeling his entire body had been worked into one large bruise. Which was odd because he had no idea what had gotten him so beat up in the first place. He hadn't been training that hard recently, but then again it was easy to forget just how quickly time passed.

However as he looked around at the unfamiliar room and the woman who was taking care of another person. "Sorry but, where am I?" he blinked for a moment as recognition hit him. "You're Nurse Hello, can I get an autograph?!" the smile on his face was perfectly genuine.

All power comes with a price, and the price of tampering with memory is often much higher then anyone would count.

Be better, because what is the harm in trying?

Mason

(Hey kids, wanna see the harrowing awesome battle between Mason and Liam! Go check out this issue right here and by that I mean the Omake page!)

The sight of a more streamlined looking suit of armor flew in from the direction of the remaining ship up in the sky. Silver, white and black was the color scheme and a new kind of object on his wrist which looked like a multicolored sun dial. In between the white and silver on the outter part of his armor was flickering red and orange and the under suit was bright green and flickering yellow. He landed on the ground as the last of his flaming wings finally fizzled out and he released Viv from the grip he had on her and turned the dial as Mason, now free of the strange multicolored cracks on his face, grinned at her.

"Well that was a fucking blast." He chuckled. "You get it out of your system too?"

Team Dynamo – Saint University

The response from Alex was a clipped yet resolute “Acknowledged,” accompanied by a background curse from Kaylee, and for a moment before the communication cut short their mutters of worry and mad scramblings back into the AMP suit were clearly audible. It wouldn't have taken them long even if they were on the other side of the world. They were effectively beelining through rubble and relatively flat ground now.

The AMP suit seemed sleeker, yet also larger. More room for extras, and it appeared to have several floors for once. It was like a mobile base on legs, its footsteps titanic and shaking the ground as it ran at full speed towards the provided location. Holiday's emergency beacon had only just come online. The other ACPs were trailing after the mechsuit end masse; the entirety of Team Dynamo appearing to be its own miniature legion as it homed in on their downed allies' position.

If it was even possible to make a thirty-foot tall metal robot suit skid to a complete halt from its own terminal velocity, Alex managed it. The AMP suit promptly knelt downwards and opened out, revealing the blue-haired electrokinetic tumbling gracelessly out—shortly followed by his somewhat more assertive companion, who managed to not humiliate herself as much with her exit and hastily pulled Alex back up onto his feet as the other ACPs caught up and landed.

“Mahvash. Ready and waiting,” Kaylee informed, smiling somewhat grimly as Alex in his desperation was drowned beneath a sea of random parts and components after his attempts to tug open a storage hatch on the mech. “Whole gang's here. We'll fix her up soon.”

“More than that,” Alex muttered to himself, gesturing for Kaylee to help him as he begun to haul the equipment into the university. The ACPs soon registered this and followed suit—which he was grateful for, as he wanted to be as quick as possible. “Prototype works, now for an upgrade... few refinements, and...”

Kaylee shook her head. “We haven't even got to the lab yet, Blue. Come on.”

Squad 1 - Fight Over - Nariko

"It's okay, Holly. I gotcha."

Nariko grabbed Holiday and was off. It took only a matter of seconds for her to reach the University - Marcus had already covered quite a bit of distance before she took over - and she slowed to a stop, looking up at the mech, apparently made by the same man who'd made Holiday.

She also saw Holiday's numerous 'siblings'. And Mahvash. She blinked, confused that Mahvash had somehow beaten her, before remembering what the daeva was capable of. Oh, right. Goddammit, Marcus.

Nariko quickly carried Holiday into where her creator was setting up his makeshift lab.

"Sorry it took so long. I kinda forgot we had a teleporter." She smiled, tiredly. "Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go take a nap for several days."

Plodding away, she made it several steps out the door before her legs began to wobble. She leaned against a nearby wall, her back sliding down it as she plopped on the ground.

Her head fell, as the exertion of her power caught up to her, and she slipped into unconsciousness.

What is so amusing about this? Why do you take lives? How can you forget?

Vivian-Aftermath

She groaned and swiveled an arm until it popped fully into the socket. Various cuts, bruises and even a few fractures were lined up for attention, but she could feel the odd tickling sensation of healing even now going to work. Despite the pain, she was still smiling.

"Yeah, that will hold me for a while. Those robots were a good fight. And thankfully I got that little friend of his out of the way." She turned away, then did a doubletake. "Hey, your face looks better! Congrats! See, sometimes slaughter is the best medicine." Putting a hand to her chin, she gazed up at him. "Now that you're all on track again, I have some ideas about toys you can build. And maybe Iona will want you to look at the Suit. Also...I really need a drink." Putting an arm around his shoulder, she pulled him down the street. "Are you buying, or am I?"

Squad 3 - Iona - Aftermath

The sound of strained mechanical whirring and the hum of shorting electricity came from down the street, Vivian's old suit hobbling towards the university. There were wide gashes in its shell, small wisps of smoke rising from some of them as wiring was laid bare. Iona slumped inside of it, exhausted from joining the fights elsewhere in the city with something she had no idea how to operate. A trial by fire, and though beaten down, she had scraped through.

"I hope...everyone's alive..."

That mushroom cloud explosion had driven her to despair, reliving the moment in Adana all over again, and she hadn't dared go back to face whatever was capable of that. So when she saw that the others, barring the Saviour's Saint, were still alive, her chest lightened up.

"Oh thank goodness."

She clambered out of the power armour, doused in sweat and bruises, and ran towards Mason and Vivian, hesitating as she reached them.

"You all are still okay! That explosion..."

She suddenly pulled the two of them into a hug. Her best friend and the girl who had made it possible for her to join the fight at all. She pulled away just as quickly, admittedly blushing at realizing what she just did.

"W-Well, I got a bit ahead of myself, excuse me. But I am relieved to see everyone not dead. And it seems like you're better for the wear, all things considered, Mason. Sorry about your old suit Vivian, I...admittedly wasn't very good with it."

She turned back towards the barely functioning suit, biting her lip.

Mason

"Please, you kidding? Now that I'm in one piece again-" He tapped on the side of his head for emphasis, and that jovial idiotic grin rose again. He missed grinning like that. Shit, he missed having one voice in his head at that. "-I'm gonna spend like, DAYS of playing catch up making stuff for everyone! After watching you fight like that, I'm really excited to come up with some ideas for you-"

Oof.

Before he even knew what was going on, he felt him and Viv getting yanked into a hug by Iona, and for a moment he felt his own little wave of relief. They were both okay, thank gods. He hugged her back for a moment and chuckled at her bashful attempt to brush it off.

"Please, after everything that happened today? I can make you an entire LINE of new fighting suits! But until then..." He wrapped his arms around both of the girls shoulders and grinned.

"I think we more than earned some rest. Let's get to picking up the mess, and head over to Ash's for a few drinks." he chuckled. "My treat."

Damn it felt good to be back.

IW - Total Recall

Mahvash had regarded Team Dynamo's arrival with a barely perceptible nod and a quick exit. Holiday was in their hands. She would grab a paddle and turn the android over her knee later. Likewise Ryuu would be pained but the biggest issue there was guarding him in case of follow up attacks.
For Iris, maybe she could bring her father around, just for the man to see his daughter being alive with his own eyes. And hear about Iris growing to Kaiju size. And breaking (a) Saint's will. note .
The remnants of the angel was gone from the battlefield. Kenon had withdrawn with who knew whatnote  prizes. And her own 'mother' wanted people.
The last time she'd left a young, and metal squaddie to recover at the university while she scouted around, there was a demon attack. And he died but that was still a demon who still knowingly attacked her own. Well, this time, Team Dynamo had an army there.
The Saint... well, AntiSaint. Hm... She did not return to leave the fragments where they fell. Should she allow the other world to have his body and possibly honor him? How they treat him and what they say at the funeral would tell her how that world intended to go forward. And she could give a boost to whoever got the body. Probably Mikael. She didn't destroy it then, instead gathering up the stones and carrying them off. And destroying a large area around where they fell in case she missed something. She did not need another clone showing up or a revenant. Even if she did wonder whether this Marcus would be the walking 1980s or the 2000s.
Mahvash had been starting off Super City's police and emergency services on attending to the wounded, searching for wounded (and bodies), and clearing debris from the streets when and then giving Shirin's people first dibs to counsel them she heard Martin had woken. Sort of.
"Did the nurse actually give you an autograph?" Mahvash appeared as she did, albeit carrying a tray of classic americana burgers and milkshakes from a(n intact) town over.
That's a few years' worth of memory, considering he didn't remember Hello. Its a good thing that the school didn't charge him anything. Except time.

???

As the chaos in the city below subsided, a faint purple shimmer could be seen above. Most would barely notice, and only those with attention to detail would give a damn. But it was there all the same.

In truth, the source of the glimmer was a massive airship. The same that turned what remained of the Savior's flagship into dust. It soared above what remained of the city, surveying the rubble as it coasted away.

At the ship's bow, a young man stood atop the deck. He was sipping a glass of wine as he gazed upon the ruins. His purple suit glimmered under rays of sunlight peeking between the clouds, and his long blonde hair blew with golden radiance in the wind.

As he took another sip, a puff of purple smoke appeared in the doorway leading down to the control room. Stepping out of the smoke was Darkheart, none the worse for wear after being turned into some Elder God's plaything some months back. Mostly. He wore an eyepatch over his right eye and a long glove over his hand as if attempting to keep something hidden. But his faculties were largely intact.

The man in the purple suit barely glanced as he approached, instead taking a moment to appreciate the sheer destruction. "You know, there was a time when seeing such sheer appalling horror would have amused me. Not because I cared for it. Not much purpose in throwing out the baby with the bathwater, is there? But because it would have driven the Saint to tears."

Darkheart didn't say a word. He almost seemed to only be half-listening as he covered his eye, nearly grunting in agony before forcing it down.

"But now? Now he's dead. Both of them. And it doesn't seem to matter anymore."

By now, Darkheart had managed to force down the pain. Though any relief was only fleeting. "Then what does?"

The man glanced towards Darkheart before looking into his glass. As if seeing a glorious vision of things to come. "That's simple. Whatever I want." He threw back the glass and downed it one gulp, wiping his mouth with his sleeve. "With him gone, there's nothing to stop me from molding this world into what it was meant to be. And nothing to distract me from doing so." He placed the glass on a nearby table before turning towards Darkheart, finally looking him in the eye. "Is everything in place?"

"I believe so. All your potential investors and backers believe you are who you say you are. I also sent them recordings of your vessel blowing up the Savior's flagship and saving the city from further destruction."

"Yes. That would earn me some brownie points, wouldn't it?" He noticed Darkheart's arm. It occasionally tensed up, bulging and spasming before Darkheart gripped it as tight as he could. "Though I have to say, I'm impressed you managed that much. Are you sure you're quite alright?"

"No. But I'm able to do as you've asked."

"Well, I don't want my employees to live in suffering, do I? But I'll trust your judgment. With that said, there's one more thing I want you to do for me."

"Name it."

The man scratched his goatee as he looked again over the railing. "You know I prefer not to ask for favors. And that I rarely deal in equal partnerships. Risks giving too much power to the other party, as well as a chance for them to stab me in the back. But after seeing our young heroes in action, I may have to start changing the gameplan."

Darkheart's arm twitched and spasmed at the mention of the dreaded whippersnappers who defeated him, if only for a moment. "They did manage to best me. More than once."

"I know. They're a force to be reckoned with. I hope I may simply be overestimating them, but it never hurts to be prepared."

"Your orders then?"

He took a moment to ponder. Perhaps he didn't need to go quite that far. Perhaps these heroes could be reasoned with. Perhaps, with a little pandering, they would even join his side.

But it always paid to be prudent.

"Call in the Matron."

And with a bow and another puff of smoke from Darkheart, it was done. All that remained was to set the last few pieces in motion.

It was good to be the king.
