This is a thread to discuss those Administrivia pages in need of a little updating- you know the ones. The ones that still cite rules we've long since changed, or the ones that don't properly cite our current standards. Some of them are even scattered in Main/!
So, this is the place to take those pages and fix them up with the help of the community.
For a list of current projects, see Outdated Administrivia Pages.
Note: This thread is not for asking mods to make one-off edits to Locked Pages, Administrivia-related or otherwise, such as requesting additions to an Example Sectionectomy index. Please use this thread
for that.

I'm unsure how it could be made any clearer than it is, although I'll accept suggestions. Editing it now; I'll rename later.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"About Images and Copyright is already redirected from Administrivia.Copyright and Administrivia.Plagiarism. We could swap it with one of its redirects but I'm not in a mood to clean up the wicks. Maybe later.
I am very curious as to how we could "dumb down" the TLDR on that article any more than it is.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"Yo, I didn't know videos couldn't have bugs. Has that always been a thing? Because I don't remember it ever being brought up or enforced.
Working on: Author Appeal | Sandbox | Troper WallI think we decided that at one point. I can remove the rule if it's incorrect.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"~Fighteer: what i would do is add explicit mention of licensing and compatibility issues above the first header. as is, the article mentions copyright several times, but licensing is only specifically mentioned at the bottom of the Self-Plagiarism section, which someone might not read if they're wanting to use an author summary or something.
i know copyright and licensing are essentially one and the same, but like i said, ive already seen one instance of someone who didn't get it until it was explicitly explained in terms of license compatibility. since we're trying to idiot-proof the page anyway, it can't hurt to explicitly talk about it.
thanks for popping in, by the way - appreciate your assistance.
The details of licensing are discussed in Welcome to TV Tropes, but I can add a quick note about it.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"Creating a Work Page for an Upcoming Work is already clear about the pre-release requirement, but can it be explicit that troping stuff in a Content Leak is not allowed? People keep
trying
to
do
it
everywhere
and it would be good if this was something citeable on an Administrivia page, although Content Leak already mentions it.

Alleged Number1KirbyFan
I just found Site Policies, which seems to have been abandoned.
Went through the namespace and got a few questions.
- I've found that Administrivia.Loaded Trope Word and Administrivia.TV Tropes More Like TV Quotes aren't wicked or indexed to Administrivia.
- Should List of Shows That Need Summary be linked to Pages Needing Wiki Magic?
- I don't know what "Categories" does Category Listing Template refer to.
- Is Administrivia.Test Page still needed for testing? It's been used once in 2019.
- How to Subscribe needs a refreshment regarding Google+, maybe be merged with another page or get a "Tvtropes merch" page's treatment.
- Should pages in Hyphenated Titles be cleared? It's just one IT trope page and the newsletter, but it's strange it's not empty.
- I'm interested in how Administrivia. All Green Entry became a thing, even if it's a redirect.
There's a lot to unpack here. My thoughts:
- Maybe the links are messed up or no-one thought where to add them. Might be worth asking, but the Locked Pages thread has been neglected.
- In theory, no... Those are pages that don't exist, rather than those that exist and have issues.
- Neither do I. Maybe it's the most basic sandbox, but could be cutworthy.
- Might be worth deleting. Unless we need some low-traffic extra sandbox, but there are other sandbox namespaces.
- Might be worth cutting/merging, considering the three links are redundant with what's programmed elsewhere.
- I think so. Unlikely we'll get a change with foreign languages or newsletters, and since I don't think we can really make pages with hyphens any longer...
- Night Vision used to show links as green. Now they're blue. So it's literally a relic of the past (unless it's brought back).
Administrivia.Needs A Redirect links to this thread
, but the other thread
seem to have taken over its functions?
Since it concerns Administrivia, I'm bringing this post
up here. Should that part at Administrivia.Media Categories be changed to '&'?
I still question why Tropes Needing Examples is orange, or why redirects to tech pages are.
TroperWall / WikiMagic Cleanup~Spark9 asks if This Image Is Not an Example fits more into Administrivia namespace because of its relation with Administrivia.Just A Face And A Caption. I'm not sure, but I also note its similarity with Administrivia.Image Pickin Special Cases. Should TRS decide this?
TroperWall / WikiMagic Cleanup
I'd like in general to go through the entire Just for Fun subwiki and move all indexed Main pages into JustForFun/, but that's outside of this thread topic.
Regarding Needs a Redirect, I kind of wonder if it should be merged with Creating New Redirects.
I got a rock for Halloween.![]()
I get the impression that people outside Image Pickin see This Image Is Not an Example as a joke page where you list images that are "humorously wrong", whereas people inside Image Pickin see This Image Is Not an Example as a rule or guideline page to point to as a common argument in threads and discussions.
I guess we could split it into a administrivia "guideline page" and a joke list of "images that some troper finds humorously wrong"?
I don't see it as "humorously wrong" so much as just an informative page to clarify that not everything that looks like a trope is a trope in context, and to show that we are aware of that even when the image helps illustrate things. It's not a rule page and I never even saw it as a JAFAAC equivalent. Special Cases shows rules for specific pages which is why it is Administrivia.

I do some cleanup and then I enjoy shows you probably think are cringe.

Yeah, rename that page and make the license stuff clearer. Most of us likely don't have law degrees, especially not newer users, so a succinct explanation would e great.
