So I've been thinking a lot about old-school video games lately and I've been wandering around the TV Tropes Wiki and I've been reading random pages for fun.
However, while I was on the wiki just killing time, I found some inspiration while reading the trope page for Mascot with Attitude and I've come up with an idea for a story about a fictional video game featuring a somewhat different spin on the character archetype.
The idea is that the Mascot with Attitude character in question is not a character in a platform game nor is he a Funny Animal either, but otherwise fits a lot of the other hallmarks of the 90's gaming archetype.
The game in question is sort of a Totally Radical take on Grand Theft Auto and similar fare, with the protagonist being a wise-cracking mafioso who embodies a lot of the "too cool" cliches of so many 90's video game mascots and cartoon characters.
It's both a loving homage to those days and also a Darker and Edgier parody of such characters and the general "extreme cool" attitude that was all too common in the 90's.
I'm not sure if I should write it as a standard piece of web fiction, or if I should make it an interactive "Choose Your Own Adventure" story. Is there potential in such an idea?
Lover of anime, video games, old-school Rock & Roll music, yaoi, horror, motorcycles, classic cars, trains, and historical fiction
