I know I said before that I would like for this to be a "soft" IUEO, where we can call songs "Ear Worms" as part of a description, for example on Awesome Music examples. But after thinking it through, I'm starting to change my mind about this: the trope's new definition is not about a song being catchy, it's about a character getting the song stuck in their head. Using the trope to refer to catchy music in general could slow down people accepting the trope's new definition.
- True. Do we need a trope specifically for that audience reaction? Does it say anything meaningful?
Does it say anything specific / notable about a song? ... Do we have a trope for highly repetitive songs?
...
I wonder how this trope relates to Dream Melody...
...
Could / should we call an Ear Worm a variety of Incessant Music Madness where it doesn't drive them fully mad?
Is there a substantial difference?

Disambig Needed: Help with those issues! tvtropes.org/pmwiki/posts.php?discussion=13324299140A37493800&page=24#comment-576The whole point of the thread is that "a song that gets stuck in the audience's head" (the previous definition of Ear Worm) is an awful idea for an Audience Reaction since:
- Any song can get stuck in your head if you listen to it enough times. It's hard to quantify "catchiness" to limit it to only very catchy songs.
- It's almost impossible for most people to describe what makes a song catchy, so almost every example was a Zero-Context Example.
Repetitive songs can go under Looped Lyrics.
3. People were using Awesome Music and Ear Worm interchangeably.
I've gotten a PM chiding me for deleting an Ear Worm entry rather than moving it to Awesome Music.
As I've pointed out (or at least I think I did), the mods approved an exception to Annoying Laugh's IUEO status in its thread — Word of God-confirmed Intended Audience Reactions are fine with that trope. That's why I said asking a mod might be the best option if anyone thinks there should be an exception for this trope.

2 รท 0Well, I was clearing out all the YMMV, then I came to check if that's the proper procedure.
Since we don't seem to be fully sure, I'll just mention that I can provide Windows Batch code to load edit pages into Firefox at 10 / min or even faster, if you want it.... PM me!
And go back to scrubbing Most Annoying Sound.

Disambig Needed: Help with those issues! tvtropes.org/pmwiki/posts.php?discussion=13324299140A37493800&page=24#comment-576Yes, clearing out YMMV pages is the main objective here, since being IUEO means the trope is no longer YMMV.
As for that batch file, it sounds like a useful tool, though I'd have to boot into Windows to use it. I usually use Linux (I have a dual-boot PC with both Linux and Windows installed), and Linux uses shell scripts instead of batch files (ditto for Mac OS, which I don't use, but is still part of the UNIX family).
Edit: Oh yeah, and if you end up being the one to take care of the last wicks for Main. Most Annoying Sound, make sure to add it to the Cut List, since the page's move to DarthWiki. Most Annoying Sound means wick cleanup is all that's left for that page's thread. I already added a note to the redirect's discussion page.
Edit: Wow, I checked and the amount of YMMV wicks is finally below 1,000. It's still kind of high, but not nearly as high as it was originally.

2 รท 0The only YMMV pages left to clean up are the ones from A to E. Sounds like very little, but that's still almost a thousand pages. Still, every edit counts here.
I'd like to apologize for all this.Well, I'm coding something else right now, but the script isn't hard to generate from scratch?
Figure out how to open webpages with a variable containing the wanted URL...
Set that on a loop, for how many you want.
Stop for a certain amount of time, either between page opens or after opening a batch.
...
Take in URL parameters from another file. Remember that edit pages are easily accessed as: "https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Namespace/PageName?action=edit"

I'd like to apologize for all this.Go to the cutlist and put in the page in the form there
...and adorable on top!Every time I remove a newly added YMMV Ear Worm, I send the user a notifier as FYI. Might be nice to let 'em know.
Might be worth it to scan trope pages, as Boy Band and other pages don't seem like valid users of Ear Worm.

YMMV.Cephalic Carnage's song, Ohrwurm is an Implied use / (Invoking?) of this trope just from the name alone?
These aren't Ear Worm, right? But what are they?
Anime.Happiness Charge Pretty Cure:
- Ear Worm: In-Universe example: Cure Honey's song becomes so popular the school starts singing it.
Anime.Mini Moni The Movie Okashi Na Daiboken:
- Ear Worm: The Magic Pocket song is so infectious it makes all the gingerbread men sing along and dance, and it later entices them to help Mini Moni.

Disambig Needed: Help with those issues! tvtropes.org/pmwiki/posts.php?discussion=13324299140A37493800&page=24#comment-576 IMO, simply titling it "ear worm" in German is not enough context to move it to main. It's still audience opinion, so I've removed cut listed the page.
First one is "people like this song". Not Ear Worm but don't know where it goes.
Second one... I guess it's catchiness is implied but it sounds kind of more of a Brown Note mind control thing.

The song "Ohrwurm" is actually a valid example of the Ear Worm trope according to its lyrics. I rewrote it so it would fit on the main page.

So, it seems the YMMV wicks are all referring to In-Universe Ear Worms.
I guess the next easy namespace to target for clearing is Awesome Music.
I wonder if the number of valid examples is even above 1500... We're at 1721 now...

Disambig Needed: Help with those issues! tvtropes.org/pmwiki/posts.php?discussion=13324299140A37493800&page=24#comment-576While minor, one common mistake I keep finding in work pages is when they specifically mention that Ear Worm is being used In-Universe. It made sense before, since Ear Worm was mostly YMMV, but now, due to the change, it doesn't make sense to keep those anymore.
Good job, all of you who helped with this!
I'd like to apologize for all this. That's not a mistake; those are just artifacts from when it was YMMV. When Ear Worm was YMMV, you had to specify the example as in-universe or use the [[invoked]] tag to disable the tag that says the wick needs to be moved to the YMMV page (since in-universe examples don't belong on YMMV pages).
That said, since the trope now only allows in-universe examples, feel free to delete that text from in-universe examples that were added before the IUEO designation, since, as you said, it's now redundant.

2 รท 0I'll try to finish up AwesomeMusic/ wicks, so we can get this done.
she/her | TRS needs your help! | Contributor of Trope ReportNot that it's a long section, but should WMG/ be dewicked?
The trope's description still needs to be redone, since it's currently written as if it were still an audience reaction.
I know I should ideally be the one to do it since I'm the one who started the thread, but I'm having a hard time coming up with something. Does anyone else want to take a shot at it?

Crown Description:
What should be done with Ear Worm?
There's been discussion of keeping a reference to Ear Worm as part of a description for another entry, but I've said that I want to cut them all. Every day, wicks crop up again, and until people... um, get used to Ear Worm being an in-universe only trope and it's used correctly more often than not, I would like them to stay off YMMV entries.
And yeah. I have the same auto-fill reason for Ear Worm cuts and I don't expect it to make perfect sense for every edit.
