@Def Revenge 24601: As per our talk in the chat, everything looks in order here! Mind's Eye is Accepted.

@pillowmantis: Love it and love you, Mirage is Accepted!

@The Real Wren: I would think that they would definitely be able to develop the ability to swap different kinds of energies over the course of the RP. They're gonna be training their Quirks after all, and that seems fit to be done. As for which kinds of energy they can absorb, a safe bet would be to stick to the ones you've listed - kinetic, electrical, thermal, chemical - as well as the other types of more "physical" energies (at the very least, nothing like Light, Motion, or Sound energy unless they get really good at it), probably scaled in transferal in how rare/powerful they are.

  • Name: Esther Baum
  • Hero Name: Deep Sea Hero, Leviathan
  • Age: 16
  • Personality: Esther is a fish out of water in the most literal sense of the term. She doesn’t understand things like cars, computers, or much about the land dwelling life in general. She doesn’t really get the whole superhero culture that the people in her new school take for granted, either. The idea of getting into costume and fighting crime never really translated to the natives of Atlantis, except for the minority who manage to walk on land and assimilate into American culture. Esther is curious and ready to learn about a world she grew up not being a part of.
  • Quirk: Leviathan, Transformation
  • Effect: Esther’s Quirk gives her powers that allow her to mimic the primordial sea serpent, Leviathan. These include:
    • The ability to grow sharp claws and fangs at will.
    • The ability to grow scales over her skin. These act as a form of light armor that protects her against things like small pieces of debris.
    • The ability to fire a pressurized jet of water from her mouth. This can knock a normal human flat off their feet, and she can essentially use this to "swim" in the air as long as she can keep the jet going.
    • She can breathe underwater, and can never become over-hydrated (relevant, given her quirk’s drawback).
    • Lastly, she can also transform into a 9 foot long sea serpent. This makes her a bit tougher and stronger physically, and perhaps most importantly, there’s the intimidation factor.
  • Drawbacks: The primary drawback to Esther’s Quirk is that overusing it dehydrates her body. Liberal use of her powers can cause her to become dizzy, exhausted or even faint. On a related note, her body also requires more water than a normal person in general. She can’t quench her thirst with any water she creates with her quirk, either – that has no nutritional value.
  • Appearance: She looks like this normally. When fully transformed, she looks something like this.
  • Costume: Esther’s costume is made of a self-repairing fabric that can heal from the wear and tear that her shapeshifting would cause an ordinary hero costume. It also has climate control capabilities to help keep her body comfortably warm and also provides hydration for her skin.
It’s actual design is fairly simple. It’s a skin-hugging navy blue spandex getup with cyan markings that resemble waves.
  • Abilities/Skills: She’s an excellent swimmer, of course. Besides that, she’s pretty athletic and reasonably competent at hand to hand fighting for her age. Or tail to face combat, in some cases.
  • Equipment: Esther keeps several water bottles on her costume at all times to compensate for her quirk’s primary downside.
  • Backstory: Esther was born in Atlantis, an underwater city near the coast of California populated primarily by people with aquatic quirks that make living out of water either very difficult or flat out impossible. It’s a relatively small, tight-knit community that makes do without many of the amenities of modern life considering, well, you can’t exactly take a computer underwater. She lived a relatively normal life in Atlantis, where her parents assumed she would have to live out the rest of her days. Eventually, however, she ended up surprising them when she made a dash for the surface and showed that she was just as capable of breathing oxygen as any ordinary person. This presented Esther’s parents with a dilemma – continue raising her in Atlantis, or allow her to see the world that most people int their city never get to? Eventually they decided on the latter, and figured that Altaile Academy was a reputable institution that could help teach their daughter valuable lessons.
  • Tidbit: Esther gets very upset at people who litter, given that she’s seen firsthand how much trash gets dumped into the ocean.

Here's My submission! I hope his Quirk isn't too strong.

  • Name: Lucien Bright

  • Hero Name: Empath Hero, Brainwave

  • Age: 16

  • Personality: Lucien is...well, bright, much like his last name. Bubbly and outgoing, he's a good-hearted guy who tries his best to get along with others with his laid-back attitude and friendly demeanour. Not unexpected from somebody with super empathy. Still, Lucien is plagued with the thoughts of using the intimate knowledge he can gain of people for selfish purposes, and he's not above being a manipulator who analyzes relationships between people. Still, he at least tries to not fall prey to this, even if it is a token effort. Lucien wears his heart on his sleeve, showing his emotions for all to see and feel. He's well aware that mental Quirks are not really widely used by heroes, being more the domain of villains for inciting chaos within society. Regardless, deep down, there's a good heart trying to do his best to be a hero in spite of that.

  • Quirk: Super Empath (Emitter)

    • Effect: Put quite simply, Lucien's Super Empathy allows him to sense the emotional state and mood of other people, and feel it as if it were his own. Although it's an Emitter type of power, it's got a weak passive sense, making him constantly aware of any widespread sort of mood. In addition, Lucien can alter the feelings of others in accordance to his own, even a feeling of pain, though with enough concentration he can control the feeling he instills in others. Ultimately though, the more his mood is in accordance with the emotional stimulus he's trying to instil, the easier it is. Interestingly, his effects at manipulating the emotions of others get stronger the more people there are in a group, while his ability to sense and alter individual emotions gets worse, all as a result of mob mentality.

    • '''Drawbacks: As one might expect of someone tuned in to the emotions of others, Lucien often has to control his own emotional state lest he end up as they do. A cursory dive into the emotions of someone in a berserk rage without mental preparation could very well cause Lucien to go berserk as well, for example. Also, those with mental and emotional disorders are naturally harder for Lucien to understand and influence. And, of course, it's useless against things that don't or can't feel emotions. He also cannot control how people respond to the emotional stimulus he gives them.

  • AppearanceMr Happy-Go-Lucky. His eyes are reddish-brown, and he's about 5'9"

    • Costume: Lucien's costume is pretty low-key, all things considered. It's a deep blue, sleeveless vest over a black undershirt, and matching shorts with sandals. He's got a pair of giant headphones attached to a music player hung around his neck like a necklace. The reason for the exposed limbs is quite simple. He turns himself into a human voodoo doll via his empathy skills, so any pain he feels would be felt by anyone he directs it at, a technique he likes to title "Painflare".

  • Abilities/Skills: Lucien is adept at playing the saxophone and synthesizer, and quick-witted too, with a silver tongue to match. He's also adept at disguising himself.

  • Equipment: Lucien doesn't ask nor need for much. He simply has a pair of headphones as part of his costume, directly connected to a device that plays sounds and music designed to inspire a certain mood in someone.

  • Backstory: Lucien was born into the Bright family, a line of people with psychic and telekinetic Quirks of various levels of heroic and villainous fame and infamy. His Quirk was often derided for seemingly being mostly useless compared to the potential of other mental Quirks, but nobody could ever say it to his face or in mocking after spending time with him. Nobody knows sadness or anger or any other emotion quite like him, given his Quirk. He hated sadness, simply because it made him sad, and liked being around people who are joyful, for he feels their joy. In school, he was always the mediator, the comforter, the one who went out of his way to make others happy...or sad, depending on what they had done. For both selfish and selfless reasons, his powers were used through the years with almost reckless abandon. At 15, a teacher found his aptitude for helping others with emotional problems and recommended to a local newspaper that he write an advice column to cultivate using his powers for the benefits of others and not for his own. One year later, and bolstered by the small amount of help he had done to the world, but not yet satisfied, he enrolled in Alt Academy, with the blessing of his family in the hopes of reaching his full potential, and to achieve his dream of a happier world, for both his own sake and others.

  • Tidbit: Writes an advice column in the local newspaper, mostly pertaining to emotional issues.

Omega Overlord. Or superjwren329. Either or.

Yeah, I kinda decided solar/light would be a bit too much considering that'd mean fighting during the day would be both a very good and bad thing and did a bit more balancing by, yeah, making the applications of the powers/energy he has at the moment being very basic. Still, if you want me to make any changes, let me know. >.<

  • Name: Lee Sivril

  • Hero Name: Supercharged Hero, Oversurge/Electron.

  • Age: 14.

  • Personality: Some would assume because of his upbringing that, in the words of one of his friend that Lee would be a 'posh and stuck upper class twit' who would look down on the more common folk...in reality, while Lee tries to act mature and is a bit too formal at times, the friendly and polite and optimistic attitude towards nearly anyone he meets is quite genuine.

...Having said that however, he can be a be a little naive with that positive outlook and is pretty easily flustered, especially when it come being praised or teased.

  • Quirk: Living Battery. Emitter.

  • Effect: Like the name of the Quirk might imply and to put it simply, Lee is able to harmlessly (well, most of the time) absorb and store several types of energy much like a battery, provided it actually makes contact with him. Not only that, he can transfer that energy into another object and charge it up or even act as an impromptu conduit/circuit breaker, with the effects the energy he absorbs having differing depending on the type. For now, they're pretty basic.

    • Kinetic: Since Lee's not much of a fighter, he uses any stored up kinetic energy to either give himself a bit more momentum/distance/height when he jumps or applying it to object while giving something a push and causing it to go flying with a lot of momentum. Alternatively, he can create a small blast with REALLY SHORT range that'd have enough kinetic force to stop most projectiles in their tracks or push someone away to give him a little bit of breathing room although this takes a lot more energy compared to if he actually pushed them away physically.

    • Thermal: At the moment, storing energy of this type is enough to keep himself warm in really cold temperatures...along with not being as bothered by hot temperatures or fire compared to most folks (although near full charge, it becomes fairly uncomfortable) but he'll still get burnt if he's not careful. It's more of a slow and passive use of this sort of energy, so if he uses this sort of effect, he won't run out of charge too quickly.

    • Electrical: Aside from being able to kick-start or overload anything that'd be powered by electricity or touching a fence/metallic door to make the next person to touch it a nasty shock...Lee's still trying to figure out else he can do with this aspect of his power. Understandably, the energy he needs to power up/overload anything electrical can vary, so the amount of stored up charge he needs to make it work varies as well.

    • Chemical: Not really something Lee uses much as of yet. It'd be more a neutral form he'd switch to before converting all of the energy he's stored up into one of the forms above.

  • Drawbacks: ...When all is said and done, however, the Quirk in general has very little in terms of offensive ability, if any, being mostly reactive and utility focused. Not to mention Lee is still human and while he can take a few hits if necessary to absorb energy and get charged up in the first place. A can-do attitude isn't always enough to hide the fact he's still getting hit and being subjected to it's effects (even if they're greatly diminished, like temporarily feeling like his blood is boiling or get a bit of a mild jolt at best) which WILL add up if he's not careful.

    • And while he can't absorb energy from other people, he still has to wear gloves and a limiter armlet when not out in the field to avoid potentially giving someone one heck of a nasty shock or heat spike from a simple handshake.

    • Speaking of the armlet, while it's there as a suppressor to help Lee safely handle the charged up energy and act as limiter to how much he can handle, if he's fully charged and gets hit by another energy based attack, his options consist transferring it to something else immediately or taking the full impact of the attack and all the damage/effects associated with it. Conversely, if he tries to use his power when he's low on energy, he not only tires himself out a lot faster but can end up using his own vitality by accident to give it enough of a boost to work which...well, is understandably a very bad thing.

    • And as mentioned above, he's not capable of converting all of the energy stores at will yet, which means if he's in a situation where he'd needs thermal energy and gets hit with a lightning bolt, all of that energy he's charged up will swap to electric and could leave him a real bind.

  • Appearance: "Huh? I mean, I don't really need these glasses, there's nothing wrong with my eyesight, but..." More or less. Has sleek black pants and fancy dress shoes. Stands at about 4'9.

  • Costume: "Every hero could use a cape, right?" "...O-Okay, there's n-no cape in the picture, but there is one! But I guess I forgot to get rid of the gloves." ...So, yeah, something like that. Wears more durable/sturdy boots.

  • Abilities/Skills: Lee isn't too much of a fighter, to put it lightly, but he's certainly quick with both his feet and mind. Being born to an upper part of society kind of meant he's gotten a good education from his tutors along with general etiquette for more formal/social events meaning he has a least some idea on how to dance and how to play the piano.

    • For more mundane talents, one of which is kinda predictable given his Quirk, he's got an interest in machinery and electronics, either tinkering with something that needs fixing like a toaster or drawing up designs for 'cool', if somewhat simple in design gadgets in his downtime. As for something a bit more unexpected, he's a rather good cook.

  • Equipment: As you might've seen in the costume, the metallic looking harness is to help monitor his vitals, keeps his cape attached while being able to remove it with the press of a button and helps cushion some impacts. The multiple pockets on his outfit hold various types of batteries to either give Lee a quick burst of energy if he needs it or in the event it's necessary to have a certain type of charge NOW. Alternatively, he charge them up instead.

    • As for the goggles, mostly there for the sake of aesthetics...or to shield his eyes from bright lights, dust storms and whatnot.

  • Backstory: While the Academy staff is aware of the details, others not in the know would simply see Lee as just another student at the Academy rather than coming from a family of wealth rather than having famous heroes or quirks(with him being the first in the family line to actually have one).

    • Given the nature of his Quirk and absorbing energy from anything powered by electricity, Lee and his parents found out about it relatively quickly to the point it became somewhat of an annoyance growing up. ...And un-nerving when it became apparent he could do something similar several years ago during a winter afternoon after managing to absorb the heat from the fireplace and extinguishing the flames in the process.

    • Two years ago, during one of their business trips to America and deciding to see if the 'famous' Altelié Academy would be of any assistance considering the news of them helping youths with strange powers like Lee's. At the time, he was too young to enroll...but they did give him his armlet and gloves to help him somewhat help control his quirk and told to return once he was old enough to enroll.

    • His parents were naturally against the notion of letting him attend the Academy and claiming that someone of his standing had better things to do than being a 'hero'. They eventually relented with the reasoning it'd be the best way to figure out how to handle his quirk properly, provided he agreed to the conditions his grades were 'acceptable' and kept quiet about who he actually was, going by a false last name until leaving the academy...and not long after Lee turned 14, they returned to America and was enrolled. For now, he's currently residing in an apartment in Los Niras with two of his family's servants, a butler named Alexander and maid named Danielle being his guardians for the duration of his time at the academy as his parents are currently back in Europe dealing with family/business related issues.

    • Either way, he's quite happy to spend the next few years at Altaile Academy, hopefully learning about America, heroes and his Quirk during his stay.

  • Tidbit: To put it mildly, Lee's a bit of a night owl, usually reading or studying. Aside from that, he enjoys at least a cup of coffee or two every day. The caffeine boost really helps.

  • Name: Malachi Curtis (Or Curt, for short)
    • Hero Name: Fiend-Spitting Hero: Bufotoxin
  • Age: 13 years old
  • Personality: Malachi is a shy, reserved kid. A loner of few words (he has lots of telepathic chats with his quirk-borne companion, though). While he feels earnest and sincere inside, he can't help but be afraid of saying things that might hurt people or be dangerous to his and/or the others' reputation. This would kinda make him some sort of coward to some people. But he won't back away if innocent people get hurt or put in unfair situations. He will try his best to make sure that the enemy(/ies) will get defeated, even though when put into critical situations, he will start to feel insecure and doubtful of himself, making himself a bit open to outside influences. Including his companion.
  • Quirk: Schizo-Toad (Emitter)
    • Effect: Inside his stomach lies a strange, incredibly tiny tadpole-like sapient creature (named "Bael" by Curt's father. He's almost nine years old) that is capable of speech and, as mentioned above, telepathy. They're not only telepathically linked, but they're also life linked. He can be spat out, which makes him morph into a 7'1" feet tall toad-like creature with sharp teeth. He looks like a cane toad, except he lacks the warts that usually constellated a toad's back. Bael's head, upper jaw, back, rear and legs are of a dark bluish-purple color, while the rest is lilac-colored. His eyes got bright red sclerae and big horizontal pupils. His tongue is really long and can be used to either ensnare things with it or deal strong blows as if it was a whip. Being a pretty big toad, Bael can make pretty high leaps. He also has a very minor and limited shapeshifting ability, with which Bael reconfigures his body to a more humanoid/bipedal stance; This would also mean that he becomes really imposing and tall compared to most people. Behing his eyes there are the horn-like estensions of his parotid glands, which can shoot long-range jets of a peculiar substance. There are three versions of this substance:
    • The generic, purple and really venomous version.
    • The dark blue, gel-like version that is capable of healing wounds.
    • The greenish, more gaseous version that is hallucinogenic.
    • Drawbacks: Bael is an amphibian (or is similiar to one) so he needs to get regularly hydrated; Even more so since he's bigger. If he also overuses his strange substance jets of venom/healing gel/hallocinogen gas, he'll become more dehydrated and weaker. Malachi is also not immune to Bael's substance (all three versions of them). They're life linked so if one of them dies, the other will. Also, as a semi-drawback, their personalities conflict with each other: Bael is rude, sassy, brash, mischievous, sarcastic, a bit manipulative and extroverted, while Malachi is shy, reserved, fearful and sometimes submissive.
  • Appearance: Malachi is a short (5 feet tall) and skinny albino kid. His white hair is medium-short and slightly spiky, while his red eyes are big and innocent. In terms of clothing, he very simple: he wears a light gray t-shirt with long, baggy and black sleeves, a pair of black jeans and a pair of black and white casual shoes.
    • Costume: Something like this, except instead of black and blue-gray, it has a dark bluish-purple and lilac (with some crimson red features) color scheme and instead of the extravagant mask, there is a hood.
  • Abilities/Skills: Malachi is perfectly fluent in Hebrew, and knows most of the French, Italian and Latin vocabularies. He also knows some Krav Maga tactics, which he learned from his father. He is also a mythology/folklore freak.
    • Equipment: He got lots of dark blue canteens that contain water to use when Bael is in need of water.
  • Backstory:
    • Malachi Curtis was born as the son of the Pro Hero Venenum, who was Jewish-American and had a quirk that made him produce all kinds of venoms and poisons, and a French-Italian woman, who had the odd quirk that made her create animals from her body. During his first years of life, Malachi was diagnosed with D.I.D and schizophrenia. His parents were worried that with these disorders, Malachi would have a hard time interacting with other children of his age.
    • Until he reached the four years of age. Malachi somehow seemed to have settled on his shy persona, and this puzzled his parents. One day, he got teased and derided by the other kids for supposedly being quirkless. In the middle of all of the laughters, he heard a deep yet playful voice in his head that begged him to release him and deal with all of these kids. And so he did. He spat out a strange creature that grew into a large toad that started wrecking havoc. Venenum came to the rescue and managed to subdue the toad monster. After that happened, he managed to find the source behind that turmoil: his son.
    • He decided to have a small talk with Curt about it. He talked about the strange creature that is main focus of his quirk and he named him Bael, and then declared that he needs to train Curt to make sure that, when Bael will come out again, he might be able to something about it.
    • During his homeschool years, he started to get into the hero culture. He started to admire heroes and their code of honor. Upon finding out about Altaile Academy, he was more than happy. He wanted to become a hero like his dad and he also wanted to make Bael a nice, honorable guy instead of an up-to-no good meanie.
  • Tidbit: He recently started to get into biology. He'll be starting from amphibian biology because of Bael, though. Despite being a jerk, Baell really contributed to the increase of Malachi's interest towards biology.

@Hilarity Ensues & The Real Wren: Everything looks good here, so both of your are Accepted.

@Undying Phoenix: No problems here either, but I still want to ask, does Lucien's Quirk only instill the emotions into people, or does it essentially give them his own - for instance, he becomes less sad the more people his Quirk makes sad, can he negate pain by applying it to somebody else, and so on?

@Theyja: Originally I was going to limit the types of venom Bael can produce due to inexperience, but if his family had pre-trained him enough to control his Quirk, that should be fine. All I really need to know is the frog goes back into Malachi there. Does he shrink down to a tadpole and need to be manually gulped down? Or can Malachi sort of 'suck' him back in whenever he wants? Oh, and if you could add in his age, that'd be great.

This is quite a lot of folks by now, so I'm gonna say that the sign-ups will continue for the weekend, and then I'll make the roleplay thread sometime on Monday or Tuesday. I'm expecting at least two more, so a few extra days for them to finalize their applications (if they still plan on it) sounds good to me.

Lucien's Empathy doesn't give his own feelings to others, merely makes them feel what he does. If he's feeling pain, and makes someone else feel it, it doesn't lessen his own. However, he can ignore pain by feeling the pain-free feeling of someone else.

  • Name: Cassius Young
    • Hero Name: Lawful Hero: Justice
  • Age: 15
  • Personality: Cassius is the stuff teacher's dreams are made of. The most prim and proper kid the world has ever seen, he never slouches, always refers to people as Mr, Ms or Mx, and most importantly... he never jokes. Never. He's always on, one hundred percent of the time, and ensuring that every aspect of his life follows the 'order' of how things should be. He has no time for shortcuts of any kind, and he'll make sure you understand exactly how you are betraying the founding principles of this world by, say, deciding to jaywalk. And if you're expecting the kind of silent fury that often accompanies parents, then think again: Cassius acts like he's a military general, making even the simplest request sound like he's ordering you to do fifty laps around the training course. A cursory analysis of him will instantly reveal that he's trying really hard to not emote, no matter what that emotion might be. He'll always try to be 'respectfully' angry, never an overpowering mountain of rage, and he'll always go for 'respectfully' friendly, never someone who might hug or laugh or cry... because Cassius knows he has the capability for both. Somewhere deep within him is a volcano, waiting to burst at the unlawful nature of the world around him, fighting against the desire to one day just be a kid whose days are filled with friends and fun. Good luck getting through all the 'him', though.
  • Quirk: Dragon Form (Transformation)
    • Effect: Cassius' dragon form is that of a mighty fire-resistant 8 feet tall red dragon, with incredible strength, resistance, and the ability to both shoot fire out of his mouth and fly. When he's not transformed, Cassius is stronger than your usual kid (able to push a car with one hand) and he can handle more than a few punches. The more he uses of his power, the more he transforms into the dragon, with his skin turning red, two horns growing out of his hair, a tail, and so much more, until he eventually becomes the dragon itself.
    • Drawbacks: The problem is that with all the power comes a lot of rage. In his dragon form, Cassius is essentially a walking tank filled with uncontrollable anger directed at everything or anyone. He's never been able to control it, and he doesn't even want to try for fear of harming those around him. And so, most of the time, he has slightly increased strength and resistance. He hasn't even breathed fire in years!
  • Appearance: He's capable of holding completely still for hours. Also, his hair is always slicked back. And he's always wearing formal gear- imagine a very nice suit over this.
    • Costume: When it comes time to fight, Cassius wears a much more loose- but still 'proper'- costume, designed to conform to any changes that might happen to his power the more he draws from his actual form. Do note the costume is not designed for his full-on Dragon Form, as he's not planning on turning into that any time soon.
  • Abilities/Skills:
    • Excellent planner, capable of making a spreadsheet and a chore wheel for everything.
    • Skilled in close-quarters combat, in a style that is mixes martial arts with some elements from ballet dancing. This style- devised by his parents- is designed to ensure that Cassius can attack and defend, whilst also remaining in control, and as such completely lacks any 'outrageous' moves that might get his heart pumping (essentially, it's much more about effective, direct strikes than anything that might prioritize pure raw strength).
    • Having been taught to live on his own since a young age, Cassius is a purveyor of some survivalist techniques, capable of living on the woods for at least a week (knows how to hunt, prepare food, make a fire, create rudimentary tools, amongst others).
    • Cassius knows a lot about cooking, except if you told him to make, say, college student style mac and cheese or ramen, he'd look at you and think you had just asked him to feed you slop. It's fine dining or no dining for him, and he'll make a fine meal out of whatever you give him, even if it's a fool's errand.
    • Student of military history, and a capable strategist.
  • Equipment:
    • A dog tag his Father gifted him when he was young, the one thing he always wears no matter the situation.
    • Stress balls a plenty, made out of a more durable material, gifted to him by his Mother in case he ever feels himself getting angry.
    • A wallet made out of artificial leather containing all of his I Ds, cards and more, impeccably organized and ready to be used with minimal downtime.
    • A comb, to keep his unruly hair at bay.
    • Several manila folders with dividers for the dossiers he will most definitely do on his fellow students.
  • Backstory:
    • Cassius is the only son of two high-ranking military generals (Darius Young, who's Quirk gives him dragon wings, and Kimberly Young, who's Quirk makes her immune to fire) who have made a career (and a fortune) out of defending the United States in any and all situations. Once it was clear that a child was on its way, Darius and Kimberly made a deal that they would raise him right, as opposed to the unruly and somewhat damaging ways in which each of them were raised during their respective childhoods. As a result, from a young age, Cassius had two loving parents who were always there for him... behind a barrier of manners, behaviors, lessons and more, all of following a single all-important maxim: 'order will bring peace, and peace will bring prosperity'.
    • It wasn't long until the two began to see incredible results on the way they raised their child. Even at a young age, Cassius began showing signs of geniosity, advancing through their lessons and teachings at a rate far faster than they had expected. But on the social realm, things weren't working out as well as they had expected. Their boy was a respectful child, yes, but he was also constantly stone-faced and incapable of interacting with others, because every kid around him would show nothing but disdain for the rules that his parents had taught him so much about.
    • This all led to a key incident in Cassius' life, when at six years old, he stopped two kids from stealing another kid's toy at the playground. When those two kids responded to his speech about property by spitting on his face, Cassius suddenly turned into what his teacher had called 'a full blown monster'. By the time Darius and Kimberly arrived, all that was left behind were the charred remains of the playground, and a little fearsome dragon, crying on his knees.
    • Keeping to the promise of raising their kid 'right', Darius and Kimberly immediately explained in simple and understandable terms to their own child why his Quirk was dangerous. And Cassius, being a precocious kid, understood. From then on, anger management lessons were added to his schedule, and he was given more time to 'interact' with the other kids (though they had to first move to a different city, Los Niras, as all the kids around them were scared of Cassius). And so, the Cassius we know today was essentially 'born': capable of interacting with other people his age just fine, yet choosing to keep acting like a soldier, afraid of one day turning into a dragon again.
    • As his high school years approached, Darius and Kimberly revised their plans to enroll Cassius in military school earlier than expected. But before they could do so, they had to check something. Darius took his son on a camping trip, and without telling him anything, began to treat him poorly, purposefully trying to trigger his anger and his dragon form, hoping Cassius could now control himself. Darius thought he'd need days of acting like the father he swore he would never be to pull Cassius' dragon out of him, but in the end, all he had to do was say a few words for his son to turn into an eight foot monster hellbent on destroying everything. It took Darius embracing his son and apologizing profusely for his actions for Cassius to return to normal, a crying wreck.
    • With that knowledge in mind, Kimberly suggested sending Cassius to Alt Academia, in the hopes that it would teach Cassius how to control his own Quirk. To their surprise, Cassius was actually quite enchanted by these news, as he believed this was a sign of what his future should be: to become a hero, the never flinching right arm of justice, to spread order throughout the world no matter the cost. Because Cassius had seen what happened to people without order in their hearts... after all, he was one of them.
  • Tidbit: Cassius refuses to put his clothes or his dishes in any kind of washing machine and will always wash them by hand, even though it takes more time and he hates how wrinkly his hands get at the end. If you get him as a roommate and leave your bed unmade, he'll make it, even if you tell him not to. Cassius has never been in a pool or a rollercoaster.

Here's my submission, please tell me if I need to edit anything

Name: Margaret "Maggie" Hayward

Hero Name: Crystal Hero, Gemstone

Age: 16

Personality: Maggie has a cheery demeanor to her. She is one open to new relationships and ideas. She is not afraid to speak her mind. Despite her cheerful demeanor, she hides the fact she is rather unsure of herself and has a hard time in rather stressful situations. She is deep down inside scared of what could happen. However, when push comes to shove, she can find the bravery to push one.

Quirk: Crystal Spots (Mutation Quirk)

  • Effect: Her biology consists of spots of crystals on her arms and legs, in which she can manipulate them shape and size wise. She can also break them off and still control them.
  • Drawback: If she uses her power way too much , it will accidentally trap in a crystal chrysalis  knocking her unconscious. She’s alive and can still breathe but, she has to wait till tomorrow for the chrysalis to wear off and to wake up.

Appearance: https://picrew.me/share?cd=HUUwj0EkAo On her arms and legs she has crystals on them.

  • Costume: A one piece sparkly magenta spandex suit with small black shorts underneath and short black boots. It's to give areas to for the crystals to be exposed.

Abilities/Skills: Maggie has a knack for studying in order to get better at improving her knowledge. She also is rather athletic due to often going on runs when she was younger.

Equipment: Has a bracelet as a gift that is a comfort item for her.

Backstory:

  • Maggie grew up in the poorer part of town with her father.
  • From a young age, she had trouble trying to use her quirk, often ending up in a chrysalis.
  • This troubled her and became scared of using her quirk due to days being cut short due to the chrysalis and feelings that her power does more harm to her than good.
  • Her father did his best to help her with the quirk due to the fact he has the same quirk. He often would be the one to calm her down and reassure her that the quirk is not bad such as how he dealt with it. He would be there also to comfort her on the days when she came out of chrysalis.
  • In between this, he would work long hours at night to provide for them, which was often straining for him.
  • As Maggie grew up and due to what her father said to her, she decided that she wanted to put her quirk to good use and to become fully accepting of this. She also decided she wanted to help her father back for everything he has done for her.
  • She realized that becoming a hero may be the way for her to master her quirk and be able to provide for her and her father. She applied for Alt Academy in order to start her path to becoming a hero.

Tidbit: She has a love for cute things and romance. She also has a sweet tooth, primarily for cookies and ice cream.

Now unfortunately, Crystallization is already a Quirk, and by name too. You're free to change the exact nature of her Quirk - perhaps she is inherently made of crystal and can augment her body - or pick a new one. And while there's nothing wrong with the rest of the application, I feel like it's a bit bare. Do you mind filling out the personality and backstory a tad more? Maybe explaining what happened to her mother or going into some more detail about how she decided to join the academy.

Alright, thank you. Sorry about accidentally choosing a canon quirk, I haven't made it that far in the series to that point. I agree the back story can be further filled out and I will detail that more. What are some suggestions I can make for a crystal power without making like the canon quirk?

If you want to keep the chrysalis aspect then you could change it from crystal to bone or rock or something? Also here's a big old list of crystal-related powers if you wanna try getting some inspiration from there. grin

IT could be something as simple as that she can make crystals form on things other than herself, or turn objects into crystals she can then control, or to take a page from a different canon quirk, she has crystals as part of her natural biology that she can manipulate, either while they're still one her or once they break off! And you can still include the caveat of her turning into a giant crystal through overuse.

  • Name: Boris "Bo" Kazinski

  • Hero Name: Beast Hero: Swiftbeak

  • Age: 17

  • Personality: Carefree and optimistic, Bo tends to act like an innocent kid who believes big enough smile can overcome any negativity, which on occasion make him seem naive since his typical response to someone's negativity is to play up the optimism. He's not totally ignorant that it usually takes more than a bright attitude to solve someone's problems, it's just that he figures whatever else needs doing will be easier if you don't dwell on the negatives.

  • Quirk: Gryphon Form (Transformation)
    • The ability to shift to and from a form similar to a mythical gryphon, a beast with the head, wings and forelegs of a bird of prey and the body and hindlegs of a large cat. In this form Boris is stronger than his human form, has much of the agility you'd expect from something that's mostly cat and can fly, even while carrying a passenger.

  • Drawbacks: At present Boris can hold the transformation for about an hour at a time before just keeping his quirk active begins to exhaust him. Changing back gives his quirk time to "recharge", especially if he's able to rest, but rapidly switching forms tends to eat into his time limit even more than just staying transformed would.

  • Appearance: Brown hair and eyes, and looks a bit younger than he really is. Bo tends to favor simple clothes that are easy to move in, like shorts and tee shirts. He also likes scarves when it's not nearly so summery

  • Costume: The costume on a human.
    • The costume is essentially a black coat with white accents and blue sleeves, black pants with knee high armored leather boots, and a set of mundane goggles and a few belts with pouches for various hero gadgets or whatever else Boris might want on hand (or claw). The chest is padded and reinforced to provide light protection from melee and firearms, and Boris' hair and feathers have been worked in along with some clever super tailoring to allow it to fit even when shifting between forms.

  • Abilities/Skills: Boris is an artist who slightly prefers pencil and paper over digital, but he dabbles in both. He's also a bit stronger than you might expect for someone his size with a rather sedate hobby thanks to time spent in his transformed state, but not enough to be worth noting as a power.

  • Equipment: Nothing outside of his costume at this time.

  • Backstory:
    • Born to a construction safety manager with the ability to sprout wings and fly, and a empowered marathon runner with limited superspeed, Boris has led a mostly uneventful life aside from moving to another town every few years so his family could keep up with work opportunities which eventually that lead them to move to Los Niras.

    • While he enjoyed using is quirk to get a literal bird's eye view from time to time or compensate for missing the bus, Boris never really thought about it's applications in hero work. Instead he spent his time learning to draw landscapes and costume/hero designs for his friends so he would have something to remember the places he's seen and the people he met, even if it proved hard to maintain friendships after a move.

    • Feeling the need to do something to help in the wake of All Might's final battle and retirement Boris decided to apply to Alt Academy before signing up for a program in the hero support industry.

Really the only problem I have is the fact that his Quirk is, well, a Chocobo. Would it be too much to ask for it to be a different type of bird? Not to say you need to make it as ostrich-y as possible, it can still be a weird-lookin' bird, just one that isn't like, from something, you know?

Name: Kyle Talbot

Hero Name: The Moonlit Hero, Crescent

Age: 16

Personality: Kyle looks like a serious, not too friendly guy at first glance, but is really just a bit too formal and tries to be nice to others, making an honest effort to be as heroic as he could be, but feels like it's a bit difficult, due to feeling like it's a way too high bar to clear due to his social awkwardness and the short temper and general overflowing emotion that comes with his Quirk. Even so, he can suddenly start making jokes or enjoying the danger he might find himself into (just himself, though).

Quirk: Lycan (Transformation)

Effect: His Quirk lets him turn completely or partially into a wolf man form, gaining enhanced strength, endurance, senses and speed, alongside claws and fangs some regenerative abilities.

But that comes with a few drawbacks: The transformation used to be painful, as what it meant forcing his flesh and bone to grow and change like that, if he is careless, he can injure himself if he uses his strength improperly (like not turning his whole arm) and his senses can be overwhelmed if he isn't prepared. The extensive use causes hunger too.

Appearance: Tall, slim, light skinned and with a rather intimidating look on his eyes, even if he doesn't intend to. He has long, rather messy black hair, bright blue eyes and wolf ears on top of his head. Normally wears rather loose clothing, and hoodies. He gains a few inches and several pounds of muscle when he transforms, alongside the gaining fur, the dog-like face and the tail.

Costume: So far, has yet to be fully materialized, but so far, it looks like a blue long coat with a black vest and black pants and black shoes. He is considering adding some equipment to it, but is not sure what.

Abilities/Skills: Parkour, skilled in close combat (mostly fights like a boxer, but has more moves he picked up), tracking, self taught swordsman. Plays harmonica and speaks Spanish and considered learning Italian.

Equipment: Mostly uses ear plugs and a special muzzle to keep his senses under control. Might add shock absorption equipment as needed.

Backstory: Formerly a troublesome, lonely child, who used to drive teachers and his parents mad, trying to enjoy life, but he didn't really think much of the future or his peers, as if the world was too strange and big to him. Even his Quirk sometimes felt like an enemy, particularly as the strength was too much when he didn't transform full limbs. But his parents and brother didn't give up on him, as they trained and made him socialize more, as he felt more confident, and genuinely enjoyed it. As he grew up, he thought he could genuinely use his Quirk for something good, so he aimed to be a hero. After all, the only limits are the ones you don't try to break.

Tidbit: He is a bit contradictory on his tastes, particularly in music (softer than his image would suggest), and loves sweets. Can get a bit dog-like, particularly when people touch his ears.

Wake me up at your own risk.

  • Name: Eileen Radford
  • Hero Name: Superuser Hero, Shellcode
  • Age: 14.
  • Personality: Loudmouthed, straightforward, and unfiltered. Eileen can and will make her opinions known, maybe without considering the consequences, with an act-before-thinking mentality. Less concerned about being "good" and more interested in testing the theoretical limits of her power. Harbours a love for electronics, and claiming that it somehow does not "fit" her is an easy way to earn her wrath.
  • Quirk: Exploiter, Emitter
    • Effect: When active, Exploiter takes the form of a teal glow enveloping Eileen's hands. When in contact with an object, she can declare variables that could apply to the object (e.g. temperature), and if the variable is valid for the object the value for that variable will appear in her mind. She is then capable of altering those variables by force of will.
    • Drawbacks:
      • Exploiter's changes will immediately be lost once Eileen loses physical contact with the object (though other changes indirectly caused by Exploiter will remain).
      • The greater the change to the object's original state, the greater the mental strain
      • Changes to any spatial variables like length will also demand a far greater strain on her mind, depending on how large the object is, and Exploiter will not work on single objects spatially larger than she is.
      • Exploiter can only work on inanimate objects.
  • Appearance: A somewhat diminutive 157cm tall, Eileen has segmented brunette bangs falling slightly over her shoulders, and wears a pair of small spectacles in front of her navy blue eyes. Browny-beige skin, her usual attire includes a black/green windbreaker, usually unzipped showing a plain light gray undershirt, along with an army green knee-length skirt.
    • Costume: Like this, but with a black/green colour scheme, minus the sword and with exposed fingertips.
  • Abilities/Skills:
    • Adept at kungfu, more on lower body motion (mostly because of Exploiter). Even when Exploiter cannot be used, she mostly uses the lower-body techniques out of habit.
    • Tinkers with coding quite a bit, to the degree that she can tell the general direction of a program even with little first-hand experience of the language.
  • Equipment: The costume includes a text-to-speech converter to feed into a heads-up display, to help keep track of exploited values, but nothing much else.
  • Backstory:
    • The Radfords, despite being sought after by hero and villain alike for their genetic quirk of "Alteration", choose to live in relative secrecy and mundaneness due to their progenitors’ fear that such a power openly used would bring nothing but trouble for all parties involved. In fact, Radford is just one of several changed surnames, their true names archived and known only among them.
    • Eileen was born a local of Los Niras, her parents moving there after obfuscating their last known location. The introduction to her quirk came subtly, creating multitudes of colours from the same 2B pencil. As she grew, Eileen became more curious - and daring - in the use of her quirk, and before the older Radfords could reel her in, she became known for messing with others’ belongings just to get a rise out of them, both pushing her quirk’s boundaries and just showing off how "awesome" the quirk is.
    • Efforts to restrain Eileen at home or elsewhere were eventually circumvented by her, pushing her into more daring feats when out in public, coming to a head when she threw a packet of instant noodles into a police station at high speed, knocking out the receptionist, and herself too due to cranking up the speed variable so high. With no real choice left, Eileen was tossed over to Altelié with a forged submission, in the hopes that they can straighten her out.
  • Tidbit: Infrequently posts videos online, reviewing weird/terrible movies/TV shows she finds. She hasn’t made it big, but she enjoys the reviewing itself and that’s all that matters to her.

[Up] You can have it be similar in size/shape to a Chocobo, just not exactly that, you know?

@Atlus Stratus & Blueace: You both look fine, so you're Accepted.

We're in the home stretch now, folks. I'll be getting the main thread up and ready in the next couple of days. Sign-ups will still be open for a while after the roleplay starts, but once the whole introduction bit is through, they'll close up. So don't worry if you're out there still working on a sheet, you have time!
