[up]I'm assuming they won't show up once the sandbox's text is moved to the main page.

I removed all Internet Backdraft from trope pages save those in lists or the descriptions. I believe that means we're done with the clean-up. Just need to get Sandbox.Internet Backdraft to main now.

Should Internet Backdraft get an entry under Trope Epitaph? I'll add it unless I hear any objections.

[up] It says in a note on top of Trope Epitaph that only tropes and indexes that were cut are eligible to be listed. Since Internet Backdraft isn't being cut entirely, I don't think it's eligible to be listed. Mary Sue and its subtropes aren't listed there despite being made Flame Bait and dewicked.

Here's some more items that can be added to the sandbox:

  • Character Derailment: Fans get angry when a character changes characterization with no reason or explanation shown or given.
  • No Port For You: A video game being made exclusive to a certain platform or a work being made exclusive to a certain form of distribution causes backlash.
  • Replacement Scrappy: A member of the cast gets replaced with someone fans feel is inferior.

There's an ATT about removal of Internet Backdraft from Horrible pages. They seem to think they should be more lenient about Flame Bait on those pages. However I've seen other Flame Bait tropes removed from them and as a Definition-Only Pages it's not to be used in trope examples. I admit I may have gotten overboard by removing it from page descriptions, should I add those back?

Can we keep them on Horrible pages (my impression is the'd get the same misuse) or what?

I suppose the question is whether those Darth Wiki wicks are using the trope correctly. If not, then yes, they should be cut. Frankly I'm not really sure if we have a uniform rule about removing Flame Bait examples from DW, despite the fact that I'm supposed to know that sort of thing. waii

We've got rid of all the wicks aside from subpages, Administrivia, indexes, page descriptions (which we decided to keep), and Darth Wiki. I think the Darth Wiki wicks can stay as long as it's being used correctly.

[up]Ok. I've restored what fits. Is it worth giving Internet Backdraft a waiting period (so we can be certain it's the response to it being brought up as opposed to knee-jerk misuse) if it's only to be used on Darth Wiki?

Is Sandbox.Internet Backdraft ready or are we waiting for something?

I've and a few others have been continuing to add items to the index on Sandbox.Internet Backdraft. After we move the contents to the main page, the Locked Pages thread can be used to request more items to be added. Though one big item that's missing is one that can be used for backlash against censorship. Bowdlerization is an objective trope for instances of censorship, but it's not for the reactions to it.

I imagine we'd have enough examples of Censorship Backlash from the cut Internet Backdraft stuff to create a sizable TLP from the get-go.

Do any of you think an Audience Reaction about fans getting mad about the marketing of a work lying to them would be workable?

Ugh. We spend so much time curating those kinds of audience reactions that I really don't think they are worthwhile. TV Tropes is not and has never been about breathless, hot-off-the-press reporting of whatever's gotten up the Internet's collective ass.

Modern Internet culture has created legions of toxic fans who feel like they are entitled to scream death threats at writers, actors, and producers for violating their fragile sensibilities. At this point the idea that fans get pissed at creators for doing things they don't like is so goddamn ubiquitous that it makes me want to hide in a closet whenever anything gets announced ever.

Now there's a trope: people retreating from social media due to the complain train steamrolling all productive discussion. I'm only being half sarcastic.

By the way, I'm not trying to white-knight big-name content creators. They can take care of themselves. I'm sick of not being able to share my enjoyment of media with other people online for risk of being shouted down by the negativity brigade. I think many of us have lost track of the original purpose of TV Tropes: it's for fans of media. You know, people who like things.

I think I've seen a few examples of that regard on Why the Fandom Can't Have Nice Things. I wonder if there's enough to split...

[up] I believe the only thing left is to transplant the sandbox to the main page.
