...Okay, I'll say El being dismissive in that particular scene makes a bit more sense in the Japanese version (and not because of the dialogue itself), but I'm surprised you didn't also mention she immediately blames the whole mess on Arundel like her starting the war didn't contribute to Dimitri hating her.
It is a thing in the game, though, like AM technically focuses more on Dimitri hating El for the wrong reasons and not on the fact she declared war on his country or tried to get him assassinated and Make It Look Like an Accident.
(And, like I said, there's a certain implied context to her crying afterwards. Which unfortunately pretty much requires having played AM to understand.)
If they were going to have her remember having her do so immediately after, yeah that’s fine, but it then comes with her deflecting and refusing to admit her part in protecting the Agarthans is why things ended up as they did is something that is frequently overlooked, because Edelgard acts like her own actions had zero effect on how things resulted in this.
Which is a trend with Edelgard, and a sign of callous behavior towards others. Like as FE she says she would have stopped the tragedy in Remire if she knew about it, but she DID know about it beforehand and even gave them Flayns blood to experiment with, and it’s only because it was even worse than she expected that she tries to act like she didnt. The Death Knight is even perplexed when she interferes.
It’s a disconnect where Edelgard talks about how her actions kill people, but when confronted with that fact directly by others she immediately tries to blame something else.

Every accusation by the GOP is ALWAYS a confession. In other topics, do we have any idea why Sothis seems to be so keen on avoiding Rhea’s attention?
You even get negative points with Sothis for telling Rhea about her and in the new Heroes event, Sothis also makes an effort to avoid her in the Halloween festival.
"The Black Rage makes us strong, because we must resist its temptations every day of our lives or be forever damned!"TBH, Sothis seems pretty distant to her children, even accounting for amnesia.
One wonders how her parenting was like.
We don’t even see the scene in SS where Sothis actually interacts with Rhea.

"The Black Rage makes us strong, because we must resist its temptations every day of our lives or be forever damned!"That's pretty weird since I was under the impression she doesn't remember Rhea is her daughter (and by the time she does, she's merged fully with Byleth).
Like, it feels like more attempts by the writers to deny Rhea any development.
One Strip! One Strip!![]()
Amnesiac dissonance or reincarnation changes?
TBF, Sothis never interacts with any of the other lords to keep her from judging the other routes. Same principle with Rhea?
But the off camera Rhea Sothis interaction is still a missed chance.

"The Black Rage makes us strong, because we must resist its temptations every day of our lives or be forever damned!"
x7 Funny you brought up Remire. Because the impression I got on the Lions and Deer routes was that the Flame Emperor wasn't aware of what Solon was actually doing there and just happened to show up at the wrong moment, and it's specifically the Eagles version of the chapter quickly proved otherwise. Hmm...
Sothis doesn't know what to make of Rhea and doesn't trust her as a result. Not unlike the player, most likely.
Rhea is weirded out if you mention seeing a child as well. So it’s not going to work out on either front since they will essentially go:
“Who is this sassy lost child/Pope?” Towards each other
Yeah it is pretty weird to think the one that paints her as more complicit than she appears would be on the one that can lead to her route.

Every accusation by the GOP is ALWAYS a confession.I mean from Sothis’s end. It makes sense Rhea is confused but Sothis seems to be really intent hiding from her.
I guess the devs assumed that in BE, that Edelgard being able to save civilians and fight Solon would be a point in her favor?

"The Black Rage makes us strong, because we must resist its temptations every day of our lives or be forever damned!"Sothis is honestly mostly there to make up for Byleth being a Blank Slate Silent Protagonist. That is, Byleth in theory should be suspicious of Rhea (especially as CF is a thing), but since nothing prevents you from feeding her all of your tea and giving her enough gifts to make her room cluttered, Sothis is the one voicing her distrust instead. Also, irony.
Sothis: Dunno who this Rhea is, but she really doesn't seem trustworthy.
Now this leads to an interesting question, for the sake this, let's say Sothis cannot EVER regain her old form or past memories.
Is she still Sothis the creator god or Sothis the powerful spirit within Byleth?
Would Rhea deem this Sothis a failure or close enough to her mom?
Also as much as I like Byleth, I'm starting to think them being a blank slate is a mistake.

"The Black Rage makes us strong, because we must resist its temptations every day of our lives or be forever damned!"
Well, Rhea pretty much accepts that Sothis is gone for good on SS, so I guess she might conclude that, while the Sothis she knew isn't coming back, the Sothis that lives on inside Byleth is still technically the same being she wished to revive and that's the closest she gets to achieving her goal.
Maybe they'll just treat each other as friends. (I'm now imagining cute fanfics of that. Sothis constantly unleashing her snark on Rhea would be something.)
I don't recall that ever being suggested in the main game. If anything, Sothis having amnesia and a kid's body is more of a side effect (which was confirmed by Word of God iirc) of her resurrection being imperfect.
Dimitri has the right of criticizing Edelgard for the war and the conquest, not for something she wasn't involved nor didn't even order. And yeah, while she is keeping the Agarthans around for convenience, Dimitri's beef with her goes far, far beyond that and the game doesn't attempt to pretend otherwise.
It depends. For one, Edelgard takes credit for the stuff she's directly involved and responsible, and second (and this is something 3Hs never really dwells into compared to Heroes), Edel's kind of a fatalist in the sense she's convinced it's her destiny to undo Rhea's work due to her Crests' legacy, bystanders, friends and even her own ideology be damned.
x3
Given she gives what's left of her power to Byleth for the sake of escaping Solon's dark magic I'll say the later.
I think she would eventually see her as her mom and try to reconnect with her via sharing memories of her past self and such.
Maybe? I like how their "hollowness" is incorporated into their character and history, and while self-inserts have never really been my thing (all the praise and workship Byleth gets in SS doesn't work for me, for example), it would be hard to deny there's a clear audience who's into them.

I'm going to disagree on Edelgard being compassionate. Her compassion is, at best, a rationale for her to pursue self-serving goals. Her solution to Fodlan's problems is for herself to be the uncontested ruler of the whole continent, after all.
Sothis seems to flat-out hate Rhea, and it doesn't seem to go much deeper than, "I don't like her vibe."
Nach jeder Ebbe kommt die Flut.
x3 Id say Edelgard can be compassionate, but she does delve into Condescending Compassion since she never cared whether the people she’s trying to help actually want what she’s offering, nor that war always impacts those on the bottom first and then trickles up to, maybe, affect the top. Indeed that she will make them take what she’s forcing is part of the nature of Hegemony.
Which is definitely meant to contrast Dimitri, due to the nature of Red Emperor imposing their will vs. the Benevolent King putting others first and all that CF / AM contrast.
x4 Which wouldn’t be a problem if Edelgard wouldn’t protect these people because it benefits her, even when it becomes clear it’s not a beneficial as the story really wants to insist. She brings this on her by her own choices, because she chose to side with the Agarthans. Combined with everything else she does Dimitri escalating in attitude is only going to be the natural response because her and the Agarthans actions keep ruining the lives of him and everyone he cares about and that + injustice of war piling the dead is only going to escalate his attitude.

I'm not really sure if that's indeed the case given Fódlan is nearly cornered by her in the other routes by relying too much on their assistance. And in the context of her route, starting a civil war in the Empire early on just to get rid of the Agarthans (whom had just helped her get the Imperial throne and their boss poses publicly as the Empire's regent) is very dumb and not really that practical.

"Her will is just that strong"? I've said not that long ago that I do not like the game framing Edelgard's conquest as being proof of her Deep Conviction To Her Ideals. And... honestly, I'm not even sure what to say here that would be productive. I feel like you're implying that I'm a "hater" who just won't admit how "compassionate" Edelgard is.

Nach jeder Ebbe kommt die Flut.

And as even the character pages points out, that’s because he thinks Thales works for Edelgard.
Which he wouldn’t think if, y’know, Edelgard wasn’t consistently protecting them to use them for HER benefit to conquer HIS country.
He has every right to say what he does, and if Edelgard reacts like that when she’s the one in a position of power over him, then that does speak exactly to Edelgards character. Crying afterwards makes it worse, because it’s framed about HER, not about the person she killed, deflecting blame for the fact she chooses to kill a man at her mercy instead of telling the truth once in her life.
Even before the timeskip she was making jokes about the fact she was going to go to war with Faerghus, which is a pretty dickish thing to do.
