And once Dimitri finds out that she's working for people who caused the Tragedy of Duscur, she would have been fucked

But wasn’t a big part of that him finding out she was the Flame Emperor? Like, if she came to him honestly, told him her side of things, her suspicions of Rhea, and maybe why she’s working with the Slitherers (at least part of it is the nukes they can drop on her face), maybe things could be different, but she seems 100% unwilling to even try.

Given that he's willing to treat civilly with Arundel while investigating his role in the tragedy, I highly doubt that he'd have freaked out on El if she hadn't been trying to kill him and all his friends for a year before he found out by accident.

For a member of the Insurrection Gerth is treated pretty well. He even gives up the Heroes Relic Dagda gave him as reconciliation for the war to pay back Constance for the debt he owes her parents. He's even portrayed as a man simply doing his duty for the Empire and letting his "feelings" get in the way by prioritizing awarding her.

Also Aubins Relic was in Dagda, Clans that followed the Elites were stated to flee for other lands when Seiros was hunting down the Ten Elites.

Wait, the actual Monica wasn't actually killed and even makes an appearance? That raises so many questions.

No idea of that. Just that her father is trying to rescue her by taking Balthus heroes relic after getting it from the Black Market.

Too bad he got turned into a Demonic Beast upon losing and died.

Are you sure it isn't another daughter?

They mention it at the end with Edelgard there. He's being propositioned to get a Hero's Relic in exchange for his daughter.

She'll even mention Kronya disguised as Monica.

Speaking of Paralogues, with the way part 1 Paralogues work with just one character, but Part 2 Paralogues require both, how does the Hilda/Cyril Paralogue work? Does it just become unavailable in part 2 if you don't have both of them? It's not like it would be the only example of a Paralogue becoming suddenly unavailable even though the game says it won't expire until way later *cough* Linhardt *cough*.

Almyras attack for funsies all the time. I heard theirs is available in Part 2 so its likely for that reason.

No I mean what happens in part 2 if you only have one out of Cyril and Hilda?

I was checking some supports of the new guys and Constance apparently calls out Edelgard for having been the Flame Emperor during part 1, which I'm very glad she does. In Crimson Flower proper, events conspire in such a way the Black Eagles never get to call her out onscreen (Rhea turns into a dragon and tries to kill everyone when Byleth sides with her, and later Rhea blasts them to who knows where and causes the timeskip, right after Edelgard promised to explain why the Death Knight is working for her) and I'm still salty about that.

...In hindsight, the supports of the Ashen Wolfes seem to be trying to patch up/fix some underdeveloped areas of game and lore, which I very much appreciate.

[up]Apparently Cyril is recruited automatically in Chapter 12 if you didn't talk to him before, meaning he has to be recruited if you wanna do Hilda's paralogue (which in itself begs the question as to why she's not recruitable in CF I guess...)

Balthus, Yuri, and Constance Monastery dialogue makes clear they're all devoted to the goddess.

Specifically when they ask to change what skills they want to level up.

Well, the von Ochs house is now insanely freaking tragic. Please tell me that Edelgard expresses at least some regret for her role in the daughter being killed and replaced with a murderess, and her poor father going to extreme lengths in the vain hope of saving his already-lost child...

He's apparently locked to the main game, in the chapter after Kostas is defeated. Can't confirm, though, since I haven't started a new file.

...

But on that note, please someone tell me what the Mysterious Woman's deal is so I can stop being convinced she's Patricia.

[up][up][up][up] The Watsonian reason, I imagine, is because Hilda would never join a side that aims to kill Claude. In-game data suggests that at one point she COULD have been recruited, as she has an epilogue text tailored to CF... but there’s also datamining proving that Cyril, Catherine, Seteth and Flayn once had S-Supports with a Byleth that has returned to their original appearance. Make what you will of that.

The Doylist reason is that when you chooseto side with either the Empire you lose Flayn, and if you side with the Curch you lose Edelgard and Hubert. All of these are automatic recruits, so it’s Anti-Frustration Features at play - it’s also the reason you cannot get Cyril or Catherine until you pick SS. Can you imagine the player aggravation if you found you lost up to FOUR units, three of whom you’d gone out of your way to get and (possibly) beef up for the endgame.

That said, I wish the game would at least give players of BE up to the last weekend to take Edelgard up on her asking you to accompany her to Enbarr, since I imagine people suddenly losing a whole week of teaching must have been annoying. Especially if you mistakenly think that you MUST talk to her on that first weekend...

EDIT: Should not Dimitri have Lamarck Was Right on his tropes list, pertaining to his similarities with Patricia? Strong Family Resemblance is about genetic traits (usually visual), and along with Generation Xerox applies to what he got from Lambert. Traits you gain from Nurture (as opposed to Nature) falls under Lamarck Was Right, I’m pretty sure.

@Rob, i also think that Edelgard hiring the bandits was the writers not thinking their plot through, since she has like the Death Knight and Hubert and not once do they attempt to assassinate Claude or Dimitri. And her route puts Rhea as top priority, and you can't kill Claude or Dimitri during chapter 12.

It's like the writers changed her motivations mid-development.

I'll add that to my "She wasn't originally experimented on" theory.

But, hey, this DLC in combination with Remire prove that she can't control Jeritza for shit. Like, at all. She really, really shouldn't trust him out in the wild.

[up][up] I always found it unfortunate you don’t get to fight them on the CF Chapter 12 map, given the extra weight it would give to the next time you fight them post-TS. Not unlike fighting Edie herself, I feel.

[up][up] Edelgard tends to overestimate her control over everything. She hired some bandits, ordered them to attack a group that included herself, and somehow it never occurred to her that she could be in danger.

She wouldn't have been if Claude hadn't tried to beat feet out of there.

That's what buggered her plan since she was forced to follow with Dimitri.

Then again, considering she knew she'd be near ground zero, you'd have think she'd come up with a way to ID herself to the dudes she hired without giving herself away to the targets....which I suppose justifies your claim about not thinking things through.

Beat Cindered Shadows. Pretty fun, though much less replayability than the main game. Final boss was cool at least. Missed opportunity for playable Rhea. The real hard part was the massive lack of movement options. No Repo and not enough canto made things a lot trickier than I'm used to in this game. Don't think I'd like a Maddening run of this.

Story wise Yuri, Balthus, and Constance were alright. Hapi was unmemorable aside from her sighs. Dimitri actually felt like the least relevant of the returning characters. Linhardt and Hilda were the real winners. But of course what I cared most about was how Rhea would come out. Seems worse overall, especially with the added lore, but not as bad as it could've been, so I'll take that as a win.

[up] I've been thinking about it, and what if demonic beasts are actually the true form of Fodlan people?

[up][up] Rhea was so close to being cool in this DLC, and then those revelations came. I mean, really? Hiding a corpse for your own personal grieving, holding a fake funeral for a grieving Jeralt and Aelferic, then not hiding the body more carefully? And then not realizing the body was stolen despite keeping it for personal observation? For Ten years? Bullshitting Byleth that their heart is their mothers and not Sothis just to keep her replace Byleth's mind with Sothis plot going? On top those revelations in the library? At least Rhea now has tea time.
