MOD NOTE: TROPES BLANKET-BANNED FROM HAVING VIDEO EXAMPLES:
- Attempted Rape
- Bound and Gagged
- Dramatic Incontinence
- Epileptic Flashing Lights
- Jump Scare
- Nocturnal Emission
- Panty Shot
- Pooping Where You Shouldn't
- Potty Failure
- Sensory Abuse
- Screamer Prank
It's been discussed a lot at the Video Uploading
thread that a lot of poor videos are slipping through the cracks, and that a clean-up effort is necessary if we are to combat the problem.
Common issues are:
- Videos spoiling major events from a work
- Videos not actually fitting the trope they're attached to
- Videos in which the important part doesn't happen until halfway through, with the length being ultimately pointless
- Videos that use the entire work, breaking copyright; this can be done either with one video showcasing an entire short video, or multiple videos that add up to using the entire work in piecemeal.
- Videos lacking the proper media source, or any media source at all.
- General quality problems, like audio issues or artifacting.
Videos must also be actual videos — a video file containing a static image or slideshow (e.g. a sequence of comic panels) should not be approved.
So, we've got our work cut out for us; but this is at least a place to discuss problems and come to solutions.

"Cynthia Velasquez" on Stringy-Haired Ghost Girl is too badly artifaced to make anything out.
Cave Johnson, we're done here.So on the Video Source page how many video examples does a work need to get it’s own subpage roughly speaking? Because I think we might need another one at some point for the movie Rio and well the reason why I asked this here is because I am in general pretty bad at creating new pages on any wiki.

On [Trope Name], there's two videos that I think are there by mistake — "SwaySway and Buhduece’s feud" and "The Walrus and the Carpenter." I assume the former is meant for something like Feud Episode, but unsure of where the latter goes — maybe Screw This, I'm Outta Here!?
I do some cleanup and then I enjoy shows you probably think are cringe.A video example on A Series of Unfortunate Events (2017) titled " Olaf's Death" for Dies Wide Open contains a HUGE spoiler in the title and thumbnail (I'm even spoiling it here just to be safe). The title and thumbnail needs to be changed.

Or just remove it entirely, tbh. Videos don't get Spoilers Off treatment even for Death Tropes, iirc.
Which I admittedly always found kind of silly. People need to choose to watch a certain video. If they know it's for a work they don't want to spoil and they see it's a death trope, then that's all the information they need to not watch it. So I think changing the title and thumbnail is a perfectly valid move- nothing else needed.
Also, Spoilers Off means spoiler tags off, not "no spoilers at all". Unless you're talking about Recap pages, which do mean "no spoilers at all", because consistency is for losers I guess.

Working on: Author Appeal | Sandbox | Troper WallI'm pretty sure we can use spoilery videos if the thumbnail, description, and the title have a warning.
I do some cleanup and then I enjoy shows you probably think are cringe. But only if you're on the work page (in which you already know there might be spoilers) or the trope page (in which you're willingly on a spoileriffic page). I mean, you can also access these videos through the actual videos tab, and they only auto-play if they're the first one.
Working on: Author Appeal | Sandbox | Troper WallBecause Death Tropes tend to have all spoiler tags off, there is no problem with having videos showcasing deaths...
So for the Trope Our Vampires Are Different, I found one video that may not be very safe for work. The video example titled "Murnau and Valentino" features an NSFW orgy scene. The sequence starts at 1:51
This is totally on me and I apologize, but I just realized the video I uploaded for But I Can't Be Pregnant! is watermarked (separate from the CW channel bug)...
I have a question about a video I uploaded that was just approved. I had doubts uploading it but I feel like I should be upfront.
It's a video partly from In the Heights but I couldn't find any legally-uploaded performance of the opening song. I used a different production
as my source, it doesn't seem to be Broadway, but I'm not positive about the usage policy? It's a snippet of a longer version that was taken down apparently, but the video was split up and dubbed with covers of the songs and is now standing without having been taken down. (See pinned comment on the link)
So is this video safe to use or is it too copyright-wonky?
I do some cleanup and then I enjoy shows you probably think are cringe.
I think it technically fits but it's missing a source.
The Game Grumps video on Imperial Stormtrooper Marksmanship Academy uses more than half of the original video
. It could easily be used by cutting the video down, but I'm not quite sure if it's the right trope either since I don't recall if the character is specifically a bad guy (it may better fit A-Team Firing).
Ha, I knew which video it was even before I checked.
Yeah, it's A-Team Firing.
Working on: Author Appeal | Sandbox | Troper WallIs it possible for me to request the removal of this video example?
It's the "And That's Checkmate" video on Downer Ending and The Bad Guy Wins (it seems to have been uploaded to both tropes at the same time, about a month ago).
It contains enormous spoilers for both characters and even the setting itself, so that's the first big problem.
The second problem might be even bigger: Back in April, a troper tried to Edit War Downer Ending for ending the video relates to. As a result, it ended up going through the episode recap's discussion page
, ATT
and Is This An Example?
(I collated all the links and votes here
). The consensus was that it was a "Ray of Hope" Ending, so that's what it's been troped as.
I don't know if it's possible to tell which troper uploaded the video, but I've just noticed that the troper who originally edit warred made another post to the discussion page in June reiterating their belief it's a Downer Ending, and they've sneaked the entry onto the DownerEnding.Web Original page (they haven't touched the RWBY work pages where they did the original edit war).
So, I'm just to off the ATT to raise the edit war over there (Edit: posted here
). But, I am wondering if the same troper is the one who's uploaded this video, or someone who has no idea about this history.

If my post doesn't mention a giant flying sperm whale with oversized teeth and lionfish fins for flippers, it just isn't worth reading.Sorry if this is irrelevant, but what kind of stuff is used to make video examples? I'm asking because I don't have any editing software and thus no editing skills, yet I want to post video examples myself, such as an Anger Born of Worry example from the official Ask Frisk and Company dub from this bit
.
Personally I use Xbox Game Bar (press Win + G in Windows) to record screen capture, followed by editing it (usually just trimming it) in OpenShot Video Editor
(since it's free).
Others have mentioned using OBS, Awesome Screenshot and youtube-dl to get footage.

The description of the 'Blu Tries To Kiss Jewel' video in Surprisingly Realistic Outcome has a sentence of justifying natter on it.
Also, I'm not entirely convinced it fits since I'd say (hope) a good percentage of people would not think kissing someone you just met would go any way other than badly, even in fiction.
