"I'm totally cool with killing you both if I die in this thing." She sighs, following the others into the supposed VR room.

"Jason X taught me VR doesn't protect ya from shit."

Suddenly, the room fills with a rancid stench, comparable to that of rotten eggs. Low green smoke surrounds the Bianco family.

God damn it.

"Watch your language, boy! It's just me, your uncle Gunther!"

A pale green man in a green striped suit and slim jeans staggers forward. With a wide, yellow-teethed grin, the man is not a pleasant sight; his face and his body scream "emaciated", and his large eyes are yellowish as well, with a noticeable blue-white haze over his pupils. His nose is very small, almost like a pig's snout, and his fingers are very long; the man has uneven, patchy silver hair.

"It's been a long time since you visited, Felix. And hey, you brought over your children here!".

The man outstretches his hands sideways and makes one single step towards the group.

"Come gimme a hug."

AGE: VAGUE, presumed to be in the early 70s

RELATION TO FELIX: ...Uncle???

"Hey, great uncle! How are you doing?" says Matthew, hugging Gunther. "We were just about to do the VR training."

"... I'm not hugging you." She says, not very concerned with any of this.

"You guys hug it out for me, 'kay?"

"Oh," Gunther tilts his head to the side quizzically; his neck cracks slightly, "Remind me, boy, what is this 'vee-err' training again?"

Gunther turns his head to Roxanne.

"Kids in this day and age...", Gunther mutters with a low smile, "You think they'd be more polite to their grand uncles, you know?"

Felix rummages through some papers on a table, pulls out a large manual titled "Virtual Reality and you", and hands it to Gunther.

Gunther's rant is interrupted by Felix handing him the manual. Gunther begins reading it.

"Reminds me of the time I worked at NASA. Yeah, I'm starting to remember that time..."

"Sorry, oldie, you're gonna learn polite isn't really my schtick." She sighs, before looking to the VR room again. "What the hell made that sound anyway? Were you booting up the Stargate?"

A fluffy gray dog with a black collar comes into the room, watching the group. Upon seeing Matthew, the dog happily walks up to him.

"Good boy, Rufus!"

I decided to do this because I figured out that Felix is 50 years old.

"Pretty much," Matthew says to Roxie. "Our headsets come with this big console thing. It's where you charge the headsets, set up the simulations, and- oh!" Matthew smiles when he sees Rufus. "Rufy!"

Matthew runs up to Rufus and hugs him. "Who's a good boy? Who's a good boy? Your family's here! Come say hi!"

"Oh, hey, Sarah!" Gunther greets the little girl, "How's your studies going? And... nice dog you have there, too."

Rufus happily sticks his tongue out as Matthew hugs him.

Just so you know, Alivia, my idea was that Rufus belongs to Matthew, and I'd like to stick with it. It's not a big problem, but I thought I should let you know.

Oopsy daisy!

Matthew gently picks up Rufus and starts carrying him around to see the others.

"He's a good boy, isn't he? We got him from a shelter years ago, and he's been with us ever since. I never was able to find out what breed he is, though. I've pulled thorns from a tiger's paw and wrestled at least four bears when they escaped, but smaller animals aren't my area of expertise. I still love him, though," he adds, squeezing Rufus gently.

"...Sorry. Should we get on with the training?"

And so, the group enter the VR room. It looks like the most stereotypical haunted village ever.

Alright, acquaint yourselves with the setting. Where do you think a ghost might be hiding?

An unusually strong gust of wind blows past.

You're still thinkin' inside the box, though. Some particularly strong little spectres can posses...the area itself.

As if on cue, the ground starts rupturing beneath their feet.

Figured I should throw you all into the deep end!

She called it, but she's not entirely happy that she did.

... Ever see Monster House? Anyway, Roxanne steps away from the growing fissures. The fact that this is all virtual doesn't really calm her in the moment.

"So what're we supposed to do?!"
