I think letting anyone upload a video will let to rickrolls and screamers, just saying
New theme music also a box@Ultimatum, that's why each video has to be approved by a moderator before being displayed on the site
There's mods to take care of that, much like with images. Unless it's an example, do you ever see images of screamers and stuff not relating to that specific trope?
Whatever choices we make, one must accept the consequences to move forwardWow! That's an awesome improvement to this TV! I can't wait to try it out for myself! I'll find somewhere to start.

Ngh 93Awesome.
Edit: How do I upload a video?

Does this apply to work pages? Or is currently limited to trope pages?
With Great Power, Comes Great MotivationI've not tried to upload myself, but it sounds like a feature and could lead to some hilarious and helpful examples. I like the Oh, Crap! video example.
Moderating this sort of thing is going to be problematic. I'd think this sort of thing would require a moderation team in and of itself. I hope I'm wrong.
I'M MR. MEESEEKS, LOOK AT ME!Wasn't expecting this, but it's still pretty cool regardless!
That being said, I'm concerned about some video examples having spoilers, because I think I accidentally bore witness to a spoiler for The Other Guys.
Also a bit of a heads up: when playing the videos, the audio plays fine, but there aren't any visuals. Hopefully you guys'll iron it out in the near future.
I just updated the post to include a section on how to upload a video. The "Upload Video" link is in the subnav bar when you click "Edit Page" on any trope page
Why is this needed? This site is supposedly a wiki, not You Tube. They Changed It, Now It Sucks!, anyone?
Dante Vin, for your question on if this applies to work pages. We created the feature only with trope pages in mind but technically you can upload a video to any page. My thought was to leave it open in case tropers had ideas on how this could work on other page types. We are also considering limiting to trope pages and then automatically including videos on work pages from the tropes it has.
@ahauntedmind
If this was going the way of Youtube, we'd have playlists for each trope showing off the tropes and 1 hour videos. I don't see anything wrong with having a video example of tropes, because text can only go so far to describe a trope sometimes and a video can be a good supplement.
Remember, these idiots drive, fuck, and vote. Not always in that order.Ahauntedmind Yeah, I cannot say this excites me. Every fan wiki - sorry fandom as they some reason want to call themselves now - autoplays a vid every time you go onto a major page. It is every level of annoying. I know that this isn't what TV Tropes is doing, but I still do not see it as an improvement. Sorry, it seems like a Were Still Relevant Dammit to me.

What makes this not an improvement?
Remember, these idiots drive, fuck, and vote. Not always in that order.Steven I just explained why. It feels desperate.
I don't really see it that way (there's something else that fits the bill better but that's a different subject), but I also feel that it's cool we have it and just fine if the feature got cut if it doesn't work.
Remember, these idiots drive, fuck, and vote. Not always in that order. You can turn off autoplay in your profile setting, and even it autoplays, there will be no sound until you turn it on.
As for me, I'm quite excited about this feature and I'm thinking about where to find a video example from.
Currently mostly inactive. An incremental game I tested: https://galaxy.click/play/176 (Gods of Incremental)Any chance to get animated trope images as well? It would much easier to illustrate Morph Weapon with a gif.

The stop autoplay is a plus I guess.
Most worries about this could be solved by putting the videos on a separate page so you can completely ignore them if they bother you.
Someoneman Agreed. Tab at the top, no problem.
Which formats are acceptable? I've tried .mp4 and failed.
