The graphics leap always had a hard ceiling developers were going to inevitably crash into. You will never get that WOW factor from SNES to N64 or PS 1 to PS 2 in terms of graphics as those were massive leaps into new territory. Eventually graphics as a selling point is a net lose as each gen will become indistinguishable. And then you'll run into the issue of TOO much shit on your screen that things bleed into each other. FFVII Rebirth looks amazing, but sometimes there's just too much stuff going on to track.
And also, do we really give a crap that we can see individual hairs of the eye lashes when we rarely are even that close up to their face for most of the game? Nomura gave Squall from FFVIII a fur trim on his jacket as a challenge to the developers to render it. He did this again with Lulu in FFX for her hilarious amounts of belts. Problem was, Squall's fur really only mattered in FM Vs as gameplay used a blocky design and he was the main character. With Lulu, since she wasn't a main character and her belts were a pain, they opted to instead reduce her screen time.

Microsoft is looking to be the one to exit first, PS may be doing meh but Xbox is crashing hard. To the point where it’s rumored that MS is looking to let other PC makers make Xboxes.
If anything is to happen it will probably be some years down the road likewith the PS 6 launch, all the layoffs everywhere will not affect releases for a few years. Right around the expected PS 6 expected release window there just won’t be any games releasing for anyone…. But Nintendo.
If Sony were wise they should be looking into making a new PSP that will play PS 5 games on low on the go I think and extend the PS 5’s life cycle.
Realism and super detailed things punish art style and uniqueness as well.

Since it doesn't have his own thread, and is a Sony product. Concord is the newest sacrifice on the live service altar to be dead on arrival
. At 697 max concurrent players on launch, it's seeing lower sales than Redfall, and even LOTR Gollum which got to 770.
8 years of development for this. And it doesn't take a phd to see why. a 40$ price tag for a hero shooter, and the characters all look bland and boring as fuck. Like, all some variation of dudes or dudettes dressed like disco cowboys. The most spicy design is like... a cat girl.

I was gonna ask this chat how we were feeling about Concord, but…OOOOOOOOF.
If those numbers don't scream "limping to the barn," then I oughta be in the circus. And this might be hearsay, but apparently Concord is supposed to be Sony's first big show of what they can do without Japan Studio and…if that's even slightly true, they're in for a very rude awakening.
I’m still just befuddled as to how both Sony and Microsoft have fumbled this badly this generation.
Like for real…I think the PS 5 has been the most disappointing Sony console. And I honestly think the PS 4 was just mid.
Peak Play Station for me is PS 1-Vita.
AAAAUUUUGGGHHHH!!!!I'm wondering about PS5's Japanese sales over the next few months. They've already been struggling with both hardware and software sales in the region, the charts always being dominated by Switch titles and Switch versions of multiplatform games (there are often weeks where the Top 30 is just Switch). But now the system is getting another price hike due to make up for the yen still being weak
, which will probably slow sales down even further. Curious if the increased price will cancel out the lower sales, so the revenue change is negligible.
I may be one of the only ones who sees Sony in a worse state than Microsoft because people somehow still give shits about Halo.

Wait, wait, wait, wait. The PS 5 is not selling so hot, and they think a price INCREASE will solve that?
All those stories about consoles slashing prices to push their product is typically met with doom and Gloom. What the hell does a price increase result in?

I don’t think Sony….cares about Japan at this point.
Different topic:
I’ve decided to compile what the general consensus seems to be for each Play Station console and handheld:
- PS 1: in the running for “best console ever”
- PS 2: see above
- PSP: loved but a bit ignored
- PS 3: at first was mocked, now it’s considered the best of the Seventh Gen
- Vita: ignored, but has a cult following
- PS 4: really difficult to know but it seems to swing more in the middle.
- PS 5: a disappointment
For me I stick to the even-numbered Play Stations. I think I can wait for the Play Station 6. At first I was really thinking of getting a PS 5 but as time went on I lost interest + not having the best financial stability.
Concord is dead on September 6th, full refunds avalible.

Mario: Nice of the Sony to fund our game for 200 mil, eh, Luigi?
Luigi: I hope Sony made lots of money!
M: Luigi, look! It's from angry video game reviewers. “Dear pesky Sony: The consumers and I have taken over our financial literacy. The Concord is now a permanent laughingstock at one of the internet corners. I dare you to play this if you can.” We've got to find the Concord money.
L: And, you've got to help us.
M: If you need instructions on how to pay 40 dollars, check out the enclosed Steam page.

I felt like there was a sentiment that Sony was taking advantage of their consumers. Overpricing a controller, upping pLaystation plus for no good reason, and still censoring Japanese games way past their official reasons
then Sony just ups the Playstation 5 in Japan. Disconnect happens if youre on top for too long.

Ooof. Again as others have stated, a crash is unlikely(at least not as view and understand them based on previous ones), but we're DEFINITELY headed towards a massive market shake-up and upheaval that could potentially see one of the two big players in Sony and MS bow out of the console market. Legit curious on the ramifications of such a thing and what would cause such an event.
