I kinda had the same problem with the "Shapiro and Abortion" one, honestly. It feels kinda… I dunno… click-baity almost?

That is really good news for her, and she definitely has the chops for it.
I'm wondering if the subtle Doctor Whoey vibes in her coming out video have anything to do with it
The Crystal Caverns A bird's gotta sing.Imagine if she becomes the Fourteenth Doctor.
Flippé de participer à ce grand souper, je veux juste m'occuper de taper mon propre tempo. If I may wind this conversation back a few weeks:
Recently I came upon a Mens Lib thread concerning the transition. Quite a few members said that, while they were happy for her personally, they were a little dismayed that they spent so long looking for public examples of men who embodied their values, found only a very small smattering of them, and then quickly witnessed a high proportion of those men turning out to be women.
It’s understandable, and Abby mentioned it too. I guess it’s another side of the harshness − transgender people are forced into a role they don’t really want, but when they can’t stand to play it a single day longer some people are gonna feel betrayed and deceived. It’s like being stuck between a rock and a hard place.
In the end though, even if she was playing a role, that doesn’t necessarily mean it was all fake or that you can’t take inspiration from that "character".
edit: Oh, I didn’t see she actually responded to the thread!

New video on Abigail’s disastrous love li… no, wait.
About how ignorance is formed and the role it has in the construction of our knowledge.
Flippé de participer à ce grand souper, je veux juste m'occuper de taper mon propre tempo.Okay this one slaps. It really comes together and reads very well and is enjoyable to watch. Got me thinking about philosophy in a way the recent hand full of episodes haven't quite managed to.
Today in Philosophy Tube: what if we defined "mammal" by the ability to lay eggs?
…and other what-ifs about social categories.

A brief one this one! Something that made me ponder is that it's dangerous to put the justification of human rights onto the shoulders of "this social construct human trait is immutable".
I think that was something my friends and I pondered after Lady Gaga's "Born this way" but we approached it from the angle of "what if we don't become queer until later in life?"
Yeah, I find the "We didn’t CHOOSE to be this way" argument a bit awkward since you always want to answer "Does it mean that it would be wrong if you did choose it?"
Though I suppose the point is that it makes no sense to hate someone for something they have no control over.
Regarding the video itself, that mom’s quote about how "birthing a child is not a f-ing social construct" is so interesting to analyze… Really makes you think a lot.

Flippé de participer à ce grand souper, je veux juste m'occuper de taper mon propre tempo.I find Parenthood a really good analogy for sex and gender. Whether you are legally, sociologically, or biologically a parent depends on factors that don't always intersect.
A adoptive parent isn't biologically a parent but they still fulfill that function in society and it would be counter productive to proteins that they don't.
I enjoyed this month's Philosophy Tube. It's been awhile I feel since someone took an eye to eating disorders like this. Thought provoking!
She's put into words things I've thought for a long time, that the more weight you appear to have, the less autonomy over your gender society seems to give you, no matter your gender identity.
Also the whole experience of trying to perfect the optics of the gender you were assigned at birth prior to transitioning was surely true of me.
The thing that really stuck with me was contrasting transitioning with eating disorders, saying that transitioning can be about following the fun where as eating disorders can be about following the discipline. It's funny because only a week ago I was on Mumsnet don't judge ai needed a good recommendation for a pair of knickers and so often on that website people draw parrallels between transitions and eating disorders and damn it's satisfying to see that narrative flipped on it's head.
Huh, it didn’t show up in my recs… Gotta watch this.
Flippé de participer à ce grand souper, je veux juste m'occuper de taper mon propre tempo. Here it is
Oh boy, Kelly Slaughter is… despicable in the most wonderful and lowkey terrifying way. The kind where you don’t realize how fucked up what she says is if you just look at her face.
Now regarding "the pleasure of denial"… As I’m trying to go vegetarian myself, I only half agree with what she says? Like, there is indeed a certain arrogant satisfaction at thinking "I resisted the temptation, I’m not like those people"… but also a certain pride at setting a goal and moral standard for yourself and managing to uphold it. I think many vegans would laugh at the idea that they’re "denying themselves pleasure."
Flippé de participer à ce grand souper, je veux juste m'occuper de taper mon propre tempo.Mmm, vegan myself and obviously lots could be said on the topic that was out of the scope of the video.
I know Abigail briefly trialing becoming vegan a while back, and if she was finding she was only being vegan because it seemingly rewarded her for skipping meals all together and allowed her to look down on others, now definatly wasn't the right time for her to undergo that trial.
I've also struggled with what might be a eating disorder and that caused me to have to delay trialing veganism for a long time, I had to be sure I was becoming vegan "to follow the fun" as it were and to make my own life more enjoyable and not something that was motivated by my opinions of other people.
Veganism has let me be far more active in my diet, become a far better cook, and aliviated a lot of the guit I had as a consumer of the animal byproduct industry.

So I tried baking the lemon drizzle cake, and I must say I’m pretty happy with how it turned out.
Well, I couldn’t find that goddamn elderflower cordial no matter where I looked so I used cane cordial instead. I’m not sure my cake looked and tasted how it was supposed to but it was good. So thanks Abby.

Nice to see Nigel Piss again...at least as proof that pre transition charterers aren't completely put on a bus.
I kindnof feel like the Peterson aspect of this video could have been dropped and all that would have happened was a tighter script and better clarity in exchange of loosing the hook.
But Abby is really happy with this video so Points to her!
