On the idea of a duel near the Lars farm, I think it was to function as a Bookends for the Skywalker family arc that began with Anakin since Kylo/Ben is the grandson of the former whereas Rey, the granddaughter of Palpatine who helped turn Anakin to the Dark Side, is the protagonist who's fighting the Skywalker who's the antagonist.
Except the Skywalkers never had lightsaber duels on Tatooine. Ever.
The only lightsaber fights we ever see on Tatooine in canon were Darth Maul vs. Qui-gon and Obi-Wan and...uh, Darth Maul vs. Obi-Wan.
So there was already a Bookends thing with lightsabers and Tatooine - Darth Maul's first and last lightsaber fights are both on Tatooine against Obi-Wan.

Disgusted, but not surprisedAnd again, none of the characters involved have any actual connection to the damn place.
It's the former farm of Luke's uncle and aunt and after they got killed, Luke literally says that there's nothing holding him on Tatooine anymore.
Nobody else had any reason to care.

We learn from history that we do not learn from historyI'd argue Rey burying the lightsabers there should be viewed more from a Doylist than Watsonian perspective. It's a good scene because, well, I think having it end with Rey under a binary sunset is a good way to end the Star Wars movies. It's some nice bookends.

Except even then the Lars' farm wasn't in Episode I.
By your logic the last duel should have been in Mos Espa near Watto's old shop. Because that's where Anakin's story really started.
On Tantooine as a whole. From my understanding, having the Lars Farm work as an "arena", for lack of a better term, works if you think like a fighting game.
Though given the nostalgia-bait nature of the Sequel Trilogy, I can imagine it would have just led to harsher criticism of the films as a whole.

Man, I'd like to somehow see Scott Snyder or Geoff Johns write a Star Wars story.
Bonus points if it has a Fandom metaphor and a metaphor for Rian Johnson.

"The Black Rage makes us strong, because we must resist its temptations every day of our lives or be forever damned!"Minor correction
Obi-wan doesn't help Qui-gon fight maul on Tatooine... Hell I think he barely leaves the ship in episode 1
for a proper end, The Saga would need to end where it began... on Naboo
Exegol is just a factory world that the Resistance need to deal with while Rey tracks Palpy down to where he has been hiding in plain sight the whole time
on Naboo
This is an outrage against Luminara! It's funny to think that if Uncle Owen hadn't kept thinking up excuses to keep Luke from leaving, Luke might have joined the Imperial Academy after all and this story would have taken a very different turn.
@Karkat The Dalek Well apparently, Geoff Johns was a major factor for the reduced screentime of Cyborg (aka Ray Fisher's character) and Fisher accused Geoff Johns and Joss Whedon of racism with that decision.
Given that the Synder Cut gave a lot more screentime and focus for Cyborg especially when he's separating the Mother Boxes and is tempted to a Lotus Eating Machine world, there's to be some truth to the matter.
