Shame it doesn't look like it made much of a splash here. This is the best animated Christmas movie I've ever seen.

Specifically here on TV Tropes. Not a lot of discussion about it.

I buckled down and saw it with my family on Thanksgiving. I'm a smidge iffy on the Liar Revealed part, but it was still a great time.

The movie was good, but I probably wouldn't regard it as very remarkable if it wasn't for its unique visuals. The script was kind of weak; the use of the Liar Revealed and consequent Plot-Mandated Friendship Failure in particular was tiresome and cliché. I didn't think it made much sense for the characters to get that mad at Jesper over the revelation — he'd never really misled them about his motivations for doing any of what he did one way or the other.

Still, the movie's entertaining all way through, and the amazingly unique animation alone definitely makes it worth a watch. I hope it does well and convinces Netflix to fund more movies with similar animation.

This was very good and Jesper gave me major Moist von Lipwig vibes throughout the movie so that's a definite plus. The animation was absolutely top-notch, though Klaus' dead wife and Liar Revealed did lower it in my eyes.

Speaking of the Liar Revealed, Jesper really looks like he was going to confess, before being attacked by villains.

Something that I would have liked is that the gifts that Jesper failed to save were authentic, so they would have reinforced the message of "A true act of good will, always sparks another."

[up] I dunno. I liked the fake-out.

I really liked this. The central joke of a selfish prootagonist who schemes to enact positive change everywhere he goes for entirely self-centered reasons, accidentally creating something magical out of his attempts to help himself, is very funny (if a little painfully true to life when you think about it - a lot of goodwill in the word tends to be that way).

I tend not to like Liar Revealed stories, but this was very fun and beautifully, creatively animated - every character is distinctive just from design alone, and every setting is gorgeous.

I think I would have liked it if Jesper had become Klaus after the original died/disappeared, with the idea being that there is now a long line of Santas making the magic happen, rather than the story literally going full magic within the minute, only because I felt it would have worked a bit better with the themes of the story and both Jesper and Klaus' character arcs, but that's more of a small thing.

Speaking of the Liar Revealed, Jesper really looks like he was going to confess, before being attacked by villains.

That always happens in these stories. The audience has to know the liar really wants to change before they're exposed, otherwise it risks looking like they only changed because they were forced to.

So, does anyone know if SPA has another project in the works?

Given how many views this film gained, it'd be stupid for Netflix to not greenlight another one of their projects.

It would have been good if the main character confessed in his own volition instead of being forced to do so.

@Nouct: So the movie is basically Moist von Lipwig creating the Hogfather? ;)
