Opening and bumping.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanIf the trope covers the same thing but is confined to anime/manga, then reworking it to cover a broader span of media could work.
I'd support reworking it, especially if there's a preexisting term.
Yeah, I think is worth changing. Is not even anime exclusive, is only that anime attracts more of this crowd.
To win, you need to adapt, and to adapt, you need to be able to laugh away all the restraints. Everything holding you back.Clock is set.

Contains 20% less fat than the leading value brand!I would be fine with expanding it. I think the current name is fine, but we could make The Odagiri Effect a redirect.

"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanAgreeing with Odagiri Effect as a redirect as well.
It looks like everyone is in agreement about expanding the description to be less medium-specific. Anyone want to draft a sandbox for the new description?
I'd like to bring up another point. Earlier this year, I made a substantial change to the organization of the Example Sectionectomy policy. Based on the "rules" I had set for myself when describing the problem, this page would belong on Definition-Only Pages. I don't think that's necessarily appropriate in this situation. Does this page belong as part of Example Sectionectomy? Link to TRS threads in project mode here.
I say undo the Example Sectionectomy.
Contains 20% less fat than the leading value brand!Nobody cut the examples, the page predates when examples were a requirement.
Link to TRS threads in project mode here.Someone seems to have edited the page while this thread was going on so it no longer specifically says it's a manga and anime phenomenon. In any case, I've made Sandbox.Bishonen Jump Syndrome. Only a couple very minor edits to what is on the page now, so it might need something more.
As for Example Sectionectomy, the page as it is now does discuss a few examples in the body of the text, though they'd need more context in order to work as examples. Don't personally have an opinion on whether it belongs in Example Sectionectomy, though.

Resetting the clock.
she/her | TRS needs your help! | Contributor of Trope ReportFor undoing the Example Sectionectomy. Sandbox.Bishonen Jump Syndrome is still very anime-focused. I would turn the entries in the third paragraph into actual examples, and replace it with a paragraph noting that this can happen in other media.
"It's just a show; I should really just relax"So, this is a specific type of Art Evolution? Or Cast Evolution??

Disambig Needed: Help with those issues! tvtropes.org/pmwiki/posts.php?discussion=13324299140A37493800&page=24#comment-576Not necessarily. It can be a deliberate choice from the beginning of a work.
Essentially, it's creators intentionally trying to create an Estrogen Brigade by including attractive bishonen-type characters in an action/male-oriented work.
"It's just a show; I should really just relax"Just one of the numerous reasons tbh.
Dragonball's creator did it with Freeza cause he tends to make their designs more and more complex over time then realizes its a pain in the ass to draw so they get scaled down to a smaller form that tends to be a lot more pleasing on the eyes.
And with Cell it was mandated by the editor with first form be changed for being 'ugly', second form being 'silly' and made him write that form out of the manga in just a few chapters, and final form was 'approved'.
People just followed the leader after that.

Resetting the clock once more. Crowner?
she/her | TRS needs your help! | Contributor of Trope ReportHooked; timer stopped.
she/her | TRS needs your help! | Contributor of Trope ReportSo far the first option is 10:0. Do we need more votes?
Current Project: Incorruptible Pure PurenessWell 15:0 is pretty conclusive. Hollering again for the crowner to be called
Macron's notesCalling in favor of expansion and restoring examples.

Crown Description:
Vote up ideas you like, downvote ones you don't. Options are not mutually exclusive.
I read over Bishōnen Jump Syndrome and noticed that it's really similar to the Odagiri Effect (which encompasses this trope used not just in manga but also in television). Lots of articles that discuss the Odagiri Effect also use anime and manga examples.

Would it be possible to rework Bishōnen Jump Syndrome so that it also focuses on television/film instead of just anime and manga?
