Trope Launch Pad discard project

Are we sure about discarding Generic White Collar Job — the description and examples feel tropeworthy. Could be a valid subtrope. It helps that White Collar Worker is an extremely vague trope as it is.

I propose we restore the draft. At least for a while.

White Collar Worker begins, "A modern office employee" and most examples there don't specify what they do, which is what The Generic White-Collar Office Job is going for. Maybe if GWCOJ is worked into a trope where the genericness is lampshaded, subverted, or exploited, it can be a separate concept.

Guys, can we slow a bit on the draft bumping? Someone pointed out at Miss_Desperado's thread that we're bumping too many drafts at once and causing a lot of clutter. Now I'm not opposed to bumping drafts we think are good, but, why not do it less...enthusiastically? I mean, there's a lot of bumped drafts that haven't even been discussed here as far as I'm aware, and the drafts we bumped first have slipped back several pages because of it. Can't we just start bumping a few, wait to see what the TLP community wants to do with them, act on that consensus, then rinse and repeat?

There are 10 pending drafts on Sandbox.Trope Launch Pad Discard Project that could use an opinion or few. If we're ambivalent about them, they can be mothballed and moved out of the pending folder. My opinions below:

• Unexpected Fanservice Person: Uncertain (mothball)
• Survival Dismay: Has promise (mothball)
• Subtitle Takeover: If we don't have this, it can be a trope (mothball)
• Doesn't Understand Sex: Uncertain (mothball)
• Downgrade By Prequel: Retcon, inverted Bag of Spilling (bomb)
• Like The Source Culture Unless Noted: Inexplicable Cultural Ties applied to real Earth cultures. Either this can be a trope or Inexplicable Cultural Ties should see the TRS (mothball)
• Secret Identity Theft: Costume Copycat (bomb)
• Death Equals Reconciliation: Redemption Equals Death (bomb)
• Erased From the Records: Complainy, but it could be up to something (mothball)
• Absurdly Strong: Uncertain (mothball)

I'll slow down. I take care to comment to those drafts that I think have a shot and I even adopted some drafts.

I do the bumping mainly because I freaked out how many drafts had been discarded without discussion.

That's totally fair, though technically it was discussion, we just achieved silent consensus through bombs and nobody saw reason to contest most of them. And I don't care about drafts being bumped, more that I just care that we take a little time with it.

• Absurdly Strong: I was unsure, but the arguments convinced me to join the discarding side. Except...well...a lot of characters really are just absurdly strong without any special training or powers...

• Doesn't Understand Sex: Fairly recent (or recently discussed) draft. Definitely potential. (I thought this was about to be launched, but I never really participated in this trope proposal.) (mothball)

Somebody mentioned that there might have been a glitch when a trope was launched from TLP (or more like from YKTTW back then), the discussion was not archived and the draft remained active.

• AT: Abbreviation Title. I agree Initialism Title is close, but comments suggest there is not one to one correspondence. We should mine examples and expand the description of Initialism Title (we need consensus for that — among ourselves or for example from Trope Description Improvement Drive project thread).
• And Then A Skeleton Popped Out. I tend to agree that Peek-a-Boo Corpse covers it. Probably safe to bomb.
• Bowl of Bile. Tossing my bomb. We have this covered.

• There's Something About Tails: As There's Something About Tails is out, we can discard it. However, the actual work page is of questionable quality. The ZCE issue is bad.
• Variable Sharpness: As Lethal as It Needs to Be. — I'm not sure it's 100% the same thing, but I don't see much potential in the draft. (I'm probably not tossing my bomb just yet, though.)

The fourth paragraph in Initialism Title mentions the abbreviation expanding after the colon.

Phew, There's Something About Tails doesn't look that bad. I've seen worse.

The TRS thread for Zettai Ryouiki stalled and was closed in May 2013. There are plenty of non-Japanese sock gap examples there, and if there was an attempt to rename the trope to Golden Thigh Ratio, it didn't stick. Sock Gap currently redirects to it, too. I see no point in keeping two "sock gap" (non)tropes and no need to restore it.

I'd like to ask you a favour: Amusingly Short List — I dug up this fun draft, copied all examples and expanded its description. I think it's decent now and in launchable quality. Four hats. One more, pretty please, so that I can send it to live on its own on the wiki? Or comments to suggest what more is there to be done.

More drafts to deal with: Widow Philanthropist: Wealthy Philanthropist + Widow Woman (the wonderful widow) — interesting idea, but no examples. I'd actually discard this, even though I generally like subtropes and splits.

I believe those two are enough for Widow Philanthropist to go. Without more effort in the description, it's just PSOC right now.

You're right. And The Same, but More Specific, but without a qualification that distinguishes it from the trope(s) it's splitting from.

They Wasted A Perfectly Good Aesop: I think the Family-Unfriendly Aesop in the description covers this already.

Those Infernal Drums: Since draft creation, the sponsor has moved examples to the Incessant Music Madness TLP.

Too Many Cooks: Too Many Cooks Spoil the Soup.

Why Does This Job Keep Changing People: This is High Turnover Rate.

You mean they're not the same?: This is I Am Not Spock or I Am Not Leonard Nimoy depending on who's associated with whom.

The Love That Speaks Its Name Over and Over: Mothball from me. Say My Name is mainly defined for crying names in dramatic moments, if they are in danger etc. (even laconic is 'dramatic uttering of somebody's name'.) I wouldn't mind splitting Say My Name.

Names uttered out of love, or ehm, during love-making are different from the current definition of Say My Name, no? And sometimes I get the feeling that if character repeats other character's name over and over, it's loving but kind of possessive, too.

Agreed. I've struck the entry and added a new one (Charles De Gaulle).

The first thing that came to my mind was that cartoon scene of two lovebirds who stare into each other's eyes and alternate saying the other's name. The draft is so stubby that it could become something else.

Okay, gonna plug my list of almost bombables, since it's at like, 20 drafts, and I want to clear them out...

Most seem to be mothball-able?

As I said before, I haven't gone through them yet since a bunch of these drafts have hats, and I didn't have the time to go through every single draft and decide what to do with them. It's easier when the drafts are blatantly bad and we don't need to worry about potentially tossing something with several hats.
