This is a thread for checking up on pages for works that have not been released yet, to make sure that they are not straying into rampant speculation or posting crazy behind the scenes spoilers. You can bring both individual examples or entire pages to attention here.
In extreme cases, any page can be locked, but hopefully that won't be necessary.
(As these pages often are hit with zero-context examples and shoehorning as well, all four - speculation, spoilers, ZCEs, and shoehorning may get addressed simultaneously.)
The policy governing this effort is Creating A Work Page For An Unreleased Work. Cleanup is being tracked using the Unreleased Works sandbox.
All pages for unreleased works should include a %% comment at the top of the page, confirming the policy and linking to this thread and the Administrivia page. It doesn't have to be exactly the same as the example provided here, but this provides a template to work with.
%% Speculative troping is not allowed on TV Tropes.
%%
%% We trope what DOES happen in works, not what MIGHT happen or is LIKELY to happen.
%%
%% For unreleased works where all we have to go on is advertising and other supplemental materials, we have some detailed guidelines, which can be found at Administrivia/CreatingAWorkPageForAnUnreleasedWork.
%%
%% NOTE - these rules also mean that unreleased works should only have one page image, and that image should NOT be changed again until the work is released.
%%
%% If you have questions, please consult the Unreleased Work Speculation Cleanup thread at https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/posts.php?discussion=15514631230A64268600

So, for Shin Sakura Wars and other Japanese games, should we wait the full six months after their initial release in Japan before adding in some tropes like Overshadowed by Controversy and Broken Base?

He/His/Him. No matter who you are, always Be Yourself.First release is what counts for the waiting period.
I had a dog-themed avatar before it was cool.More specifically, it's six months after the controversy starts, with pre-release time not counting. If something is only controversial in the Western fanbase, we start counting when it releases in the West. If a post-release patch or DLC is controversial, we count from the patch/DLC's release.
- Casting Gag: Who else to play a cyberpunk messiah but Keanu Reeves?
It's a ZCE and a rhetorical question. Can I request to cut it?
Go ahead and request it.
From YMMV.Young Justice
- Author's Saving Throw: Presumably due to complaints about the huge cast decreasing the amount of focus and writing quality each character receives, Season 4 was announced at SDCC 2019 to be more character-oriented.
Is it speculative as season 4 hasn't aired yet?
It relies solely on Word of God, so it can't be there anyway.
Jawbreakers on sale for 99¢Troper snivyTsutarja moved a bunch of hidden entries on The Mandalorian into a hidden "unconfirmed tropes" heading.
While I'm sure they had the best of intentions, this isn't really a good way to handle this. Most of those entries were hidden because they do not cite a publicly-released, tropable source per the policy on Creating a Work Page for an Upcoming Work. Others were hidden because they are Zero Context Examples.
The spirit of the Creating a Work Page for an Upcoming Work policy is not to guess which tropes will apply to a work we haven't seen yet. We trope only material that is publicly available and verifiable, in this case the trailers. Some of the hidden entries could probably be unhidden if citations to publicly-available material were added; the rest should be deleted.
As for the ZCEs, some might be salvaged and unhidden by adding context; any that can't are either speculation or shoehorning or both, and should be deleted.
I haven't been following the work super closely, so I'd hate to delete anything that could be salvaged by someone who's more in the know. Would anyone care to take a crack at salvaging hidden entries before the "unconfirmed tropes" section is deleted?
BTW, I've cross-posted this (along with a link to this thread) on the Discussion page to try to get more folks who are familiar with the work involved.

Also, paging ~snivyTsutarja to bring their attention to the above.
Or trying to anyway. ~Tropers/snivyTsutarja
I swear the software's rules for how paging works are beyond me for some reason.
Screw it, I'll just send them a PM manually.
highcrate, i sent you a PM about the markup, did it not go through?
Migrated to Chloe Jessica! Here's something that i'm a bit iffy about regarding troping The Mandalorian. Some of the tropes are from the leaked trailer that was only shown at Celebration, but now there's an official trailer that we can potentially get a few tropes from. Should we remove the Celebration trailer tropes or keep them?
Remove. We don't trope leaks, period.
Jawbreakers on sale for 99¢I have a suggestion. Would it be better if we organize the works listed in Sandbox.Future Works by release date order like Sandbox.Complete Monster Discussion Dates? I think it might be easier in order to remove the released works.

. For the ones that actually have a release date, that is.
Jawbreakers on sale for 99¢From Film.Joker 2019:
- Darker and Edgier: The film's been slapped with an R rating for violent and disturbing content. The Venice Film Festival's director even confirmed that it's 'darker than The Dark Knight'! The final trailer's bleak tone also confirms this.
Since Darker and Edgier is the sort of trope that relies on a comparison between the work as a whole with previous works on the franchise, I submit that it can't be given context until we have the whole work for comparison.
The above example text gives little or no actual context. It's "the ratings board says trope happens," followed by "the director says trope happens," followed by "the trailer scare-quote-unquote 'confirms' trope happens."
At no point does it actually describe the trope happening.
I was wondering if this could be added under the Epileptic Trees entry on YMMV.The Rise Of Skywalker:
- What is Dark Rey? Is she a Force vision, a clone, or is Rey actually going to fall to the Dark Side?
That's a WMG though?
Epileptic trees are for insane and wild fan theories.
"That's right mortal. By channeling my divine rage into power, I have forged a new instrument in which to destroy you."I think Epileptic Trees depends more on mass fan speculation, rather than the personal theories found on our Wild Mass Guessing page.
Contains 20% less fat than the leading value brand! The live action section would look like this based the premiere date of each shows.
Live-Action TV
- American Horror Story: 1984 : September 18, 2019
- Bluff City Law: September 23, 2019
- Emergence September 24, 2019
- Creepshow - Shudder series: September 26, 2019
- Sunnyside: September 26, 2019
- Batwoman (2019): October 6, 2019 - cleaned 6/7/19
- Nancy Drew/Nancy Drew (2019): October 9, 2019
- The Mandalorian: November 12, 2019 - cleaned 6/6/19
That sounds fine to me. The lists are sufficiently long that I typically wind up CTRL+F-ing to find what I need, so if date order makes life easier for folks than alphabetical order, it makes no difference to me.
Are game demos allowed to be troped before release? Just wanted to be sure.
He/His/Him. No matter who you are, always Be Yourself. They are, but they have to be specified as being from the demo.

Yes, an individual episode can (in theory) qualify for Overshadowed by Controversy.
The waiting period starts from the episode's airdate.
