This reboot of a classic sitcom follows the Alvarezes, a Cuban-American family headed by Penelope (Justina Machado) , a newly divorced army vet, her lively mother, Lydia (Rita Moreno), her two kids, Elena (Isabella Gomez) and Alex (Marcel Ruiz), and their wacky rich landlord, Schneider (Todd Grinnell).

I love this show so, so much. It’s cheesy but it’s thoughtful and has a lot of heart.

holy shit that reveal of Schneider's first name was perfectly timed

also that certainly is a Sequel Hook they left dangling for next season

Favorite episode of season 3 overall is probably "The First Time" with an excellent a-plot on Elena's relationship with Syd and Penelope, and the b-plot works well with its comedic beats (it culminating with the gag of Dr. Berkowitz getting punched by Lydia and the injury being unrelated to any actual conflict with anyone else for the shoes was just the best)

I really liked that episode; I agree it was well balanced and handled a sensitive subject well.

But my favorite of season 3 was Anxiety, because it was both very funny and very tactful, and as someone with anxiety myself, seeing that onscreen meant a lot.

I heard about this, so I checked out the pilot a while back. Had to stop watching because it got to cringy for me.

I'd say that Netflix has recently demonstrated with numerous well publicized cancellations (Daredevil (2015), Santa Clarita Diet, and this show) that they no longer care about quality programming. Nor apparently do they give a fig for subscriber loyalty.

They’re willing to shell out hundreds of millions to keep old shows like Friends and The Office, but not to renew SUCCESSFUL SHOWS THEY ACTUALLY MADE?! Every year more and more content owners pull their shows off Netflix due to starting their own networks, making Netflix increasingly reliant on its original library... yet they regularly cancel shows after just a few short seasons. They’re also setting a dubious precedent by ending shows on actual *cliffhangers* since that diminishes the appeal of the earlier seasons to new viewers. I’ve happily watched shows that have already wrapped, years after release, but only if I know there’s a satisfying ending.
