1.3 is definitely the best, I think.
1.1 for clearly showing the most cranes and being in color. I don't mind it from being a work now allowed under the 5P, since we wouldn't be able to pothole Sadako Sasaki either.

Keet cleanupI'll go 1.1.
(Annoyed grunt)1.1.
"That's right mortal. By channeling my divine rage into power, I have forged a new instrument in which to destroy you."I guess the question is what part of the trope we want the image to convey.
If it's okay to just show the fact that the cranes exist, 1.1 is fine (although I wouldn't be surprised if there were works-related images that look nicer/show more cranes).
But if we want to show that the cranes are supposed to grant wishes, 1.3 is the best. Showing the sick mother and the sad kid in association with the cranes - the wish is pretty clear there. But if we had a version of 1.2 where the mother wasn't in so much shadow, I'd vote that instead.
I agree. 1.2 and 1.3 are better because it shows what the cranes are supposedly for. 1.1 is just someone folding cranes
That's a bit too stark...when I first saw it, it almost looked like the shadowed part had been pasted onto the lit part. Can you split the difference between 1.2 and that one?

10.1
EDIT: Couldn't we make a stitched screenshot to show more of the cranes and the mother? An example of what I'm talking about (don't actually use this one, since the seam between images is obvious):

Works, but the colors look a bit off. Make it use the same brightness/saturation as 10.1.

Keet cleanupThat framing works better than I thought it would, but the colors do look a little washed out...is that a consequence of the brightening of the shadowed part?

Increased saturation.
It still doesn't look right. Why can't you make a wider version of 10.1, so it looks similar to my mockup but without the obvious seam?
Still doesn't look good; I'm waiting on eroock.
EDIT: Like this, but with the colors of 10.1:

Keet cleanupTried to make the colours closer to the original:
Clock is set.
The more I look at these widescreen options, the more I think we should just stick with 10.1 and call it good as it's the best balance of lightening the shadowed part while keeping the original colors.
I'd support a version of 10.1 that doesn't cut off her other pigtail.

Keet cleanupHooked, thanks!
Pre-weekend votes bump; two options with positive ratios right now, one in consensus range.
Frankly, I see little reason people would vote for 10.1 over the wider shot in 20. I think 10.1 just has more votes because 20 was added after the crowner was opened.
Keet cleanupDon't be salty. 20 actually has the lead on 10.1, but only by one vote.
Crown Description:
Nominations for replacement images:
The current pic on 1000 Origami Cranes is pretty good, but is a low-quality JPG and is from The Anime Whose Name We No Longer Speak. I figured a straight quality upgrade would be sufficient, but I wanted to field a couple of other takes on the shot that give more context to the scene. In order, it's a widescreen take of the original pic, a shot from a few seconds later that shows Rin's mother, and the same scene from the manga.
The only other decent option I could find is shots of Sadako Sasaki. GIS search.
Thoughts?
