Ambiguous Name: Foreign Fanservice

I'm not looking at the same crowner you are. I see a clear winner.

I think he is looking at the green numbers, which all seem to be wrong for some reason. Yet another forum bug.

I've learned that voting one way, then the opposite, and then the intended way will correct the net score counter.

I have a problem with the leader personally 'Occidental' means 'related to the west'.

But this trope is specifically about white blonde girls, almost always with blue eyes (occasionally green).

While I can think of one half-Puerto Rican anime character treated kinda like this, its not this trope at all.

For the record, the current crowner says:

• 1.08 : 1 Western Waifu

None of the recommended titles specify "white"; they're all referencing foriegners or westerners.

That is a problem. This trope is specifically about the white, blonde, blue eyed hottie. It is very often used as a deliberate counterpart to a Yamato Nadeshiko, especially in Betty and Veronica or Harem situations. This is not counting those who dye their hair, which is still missing its trope.. despite me trying twice to fix Dye Hard into something NOT Trivia.

It is rather racist yeah but thats the stereotype. Just some series that come to mind vs Yamato Nadeshikos Nisekoi, Haganai, AiYoriAoshi, High School DXD (two characters), invoked and discussed in LoveHina, also discussed in SayonaraZetsubouSensei.

Slightly off topic, but anyway...

Dye Hard is defined as trivia for actresses who dye their hair because of a role they crave, or actors who change their appearance because of a role.

If you want to create a new trope, take it to TLP. Nothing easier.

Characters who dye hair to be more appealing and to increase their sexiness in order to attract more people,; characters who often change their hair colour and appear and act unpredictable... I see this as something very tropeworthy.

Those two pages could happily co-exist on this wiki.

I tried that with examples and all and it got discarded... twice... then tried making a thread here [1] and it got trash canned.

To keep it on topic here dyeing blonde excludes them from this trope however I see a few on the examples list that are dyed. Being Dyed usually points at them being a Japanese Delinquent or Gyaru Girl.. or they can be dyeing to get away from this trope since Japan is rather racist and even natural brown hair can get you kicked out of school.

Occasionally people in this trope get assumed to either Japanese Delinquent or Gyaru Girl for gags.

With regards to the name:

I do think that in common usage, particularly in Asia, people tend to assume "western" = white^note though of course South Americans, Black Caribbeans, non-white Canadians/Americans are all equally "western", geographically and culturally speaking, and due to Phenotype Stereotype white = blonde. So I think at least Occidental Eye Candy and Western Waifu both at least allude to the specific physical type at hand, which is also made very clear by the page image and description on Foreign Fanservice which will be moved to the new name.

I hollered to see if it's safe to call (presumably in favor of Gorgeous Gaijin). The crowner's been up since March, which I'm pretty sure is considered a long enough period of time.

Sandbox.Foreign Fanservice is a thing, that should be swapped in to Main.Foreign Fanservice. Should that be done before or after migrating wicks?

I think we should do that after, and if we find examples of the supertrope, they can be migrated/crosswicked over to the sandbox to help note that the wick is correct.

I've started copying examples of the supertrope to Sandbox.Foreign Fanservice, but what should I do with those actual wicks? Should I ignore them for now and focus on changing wicks to Gorgeous Gaijin (confusing, makes it hard to know which pages have been checked), or remove wicks to the supertrope with the expectation of re-wicking them later (makes extra work).

I moved the Image Links page; surprisingly, the Laconic page still fits the definition of the new supertrope. I think Laconic.Gorgeous Gaijin should say something like "An attractive Western character in East Asian media." Do they have to be White?

I think so. Non-white, foreign fanservice characters in a Japanese work would be the supertrope.

I cleaned out the characters wicks from A-M. Remaining wicks are (imo) valid wicks to the supertrope, which I also listed on Sandbox.Foreign Fanservice.

OK, I created a Laconic page for the new title and moved two examples to the supertrope.

The big other foreigner type would be Anime Chinese Girl and to lesser extent Dark Skinned Blond.

I changed the Laconic page from "An attractive white Westerner in East Asian media," to say "in an East Asian setting." For example, Katawa Shoujo is Western-developed but set in Japan, so Lilly counts, but while Fullmetal Alchemist has many attractive characters with blonde hair and blue/green eyes, they don't count since it's a European-inspired setting.

I also agree that Foreign People Are Sexy should redirect to the new supertrope instead of Everyone Looks Sexier if French.
