They're of use to anyone who may not be aware of how extensive the franchises are

Anyone who wanted to know that would go to the Franchise. Not to mention that many of these things just aren't franchises. Charles Dickens is not a franchise.

We've talked about this for quite a bit and I still haven't really heard any explication of what use these indexes are to anyone.

In the same way that I like when a Creator page has all the works that actor worked on, I like these pages because it has all the Creators that a work has.

I think creating Cast/ could be a good idea, especially since it could have information that a character page doesn't have, like the Directors or Screenwriters.

The idea being if I like a particular work due to writing or a character, I could go to Cast and see the Creator who's responsible and go to his page in search of similar works.

[up]If a work's creators are listed, why does the list need to be separate from the work page(s)?

[up] You mean in the description? Not all work creators are normally listed, especially stuff like writers, producers, minor characters and works with Loads And Loads Of Characters.

[up]Not necessarily the description. At least some of that stuff sounds like it could go on Trivia pages (this is partially why I said "page(s)" and not singular "page"), which are directly tied to and accessible from the work's main page. From What Goes Where on the Wiki:

"Facts that occur during or around the production of a work but are not elements written to tell the story. Casting choices not relevant to the story, who did what to whom on set, Throw It In, etc."

As for plot-relevant casting choices, this thread has already covered listing actors along with their characters and vice versa.

[up] Putting this info in trivia could be a valid option, but I think it would overwhelm the other trivia info. Cast would work just as a raw list.

That's what work pages do. Or heck, even Franchise pages.

We really should just get a crowner going. This discussion is going nowhere.

[up][up]Yes, crowner time. (And if anybody is undecided, go look at all those David Warner indexes!)

We agreed on making it a while ago, but not on what the crowner options would be. I'll try my hand at making one.

https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Administrivia/HowCrownersWork

This would be the crowner: https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/crowner.php/PageAction/FranchiseActors

Can we agree with these options? Based it on what crazysamaritan suggested a few pages ago.

[up][up][up][up][up][up][up][up][up][up][up] I agree.

[up][up][up][up][up][up][up][up][up][up] That one I agree with you, and hence why I go with the trimming suggestion mentioned before.

[up][up][up][up][up][up] Can I vote more than once? I mean I'm good with any option except Option A. [lol]

I just checked to see what's gonna happen to the pages. Turns out many want to move it to a different namespace.

Can one assume, if these lists are moved to a new namespace, that the index tags will be removed?

No, because getting moved and keeping the index tages are separate issues.

No, because getting moved and keeping the index tages are separate issues.

Then what's the point?

[up] I agree. If we aren't going to remove the index tags, why move the information at all?

I really don't like the idea of adding a separate namespace for cast and crew. What's going to happen is once we add it, people will see the new namespace and feel compelled to add every single person involved with the work and that's not what this site's about. There's already a great site with all of that information: IMDB. Why should we duplicate all of that here?
