This is like Man of Steel, except… the exact opposite.

With the climax looking like it takes place in a carnival, I am now 100% convinced that defeating Sivanna is gonna involve a Zoltar machine.

I love how that toy Batman looks very similar to B:TAS Batman. Could you imagine if that show existed in the DCEU, something like how in Logan the X-Men comics exists in the X-Men film universe, or the Spider-Man comics exist in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-verse?

That trailer does kind of make it look like almost a parody of Man Of Steel (inadvertently). Like, MOS has this really serious, pensive hero as he learns about his power etc and confronts a similarly powered nemesis, and now we have an absolute goofball with the same power-set playing the same scenario for laughs.

That doesn't really sound like a parody. And they way you described it is a bit too braid to really cement a connection.

[up]Eh, that shot of the pair of them flying through the city as they're grappling does feel like a very deliberate reference to Man of Steel.

Yep… And the bus too…

"What should have I done? Just let them die?"
"…Maybe."

"I saw that you almost killed the people in the bus."
"But I stopped the bus!"

Exactly, it doesn't seem mean spirited or even a Take That! but more of a humorous wink.

I'll admit, this does look very funny. I'm probably not going to see it on release, but it's definitely something to watch with my son.

Catching the bus is not going to help much. Everyone on that bus is still dead.

And Batman should be dead from all the impacts he's had. Physics takes a vacation in superhero movies. Shazam at least has a magic did it excuse. It's magic! Or something.

One of the first rules of action stories is that if you fall, you’ll always be alright if someone catches you in time.

The only real exception I can think of offhand is Gwen Stacy - but only the comics, given that the ASM films to change it to Spidey catching her too late rather than improperly.

Oh, and The Incredibles subverted it too.

Yeah, let's ignore the Flying Brick not being something soft to crash into. Sometimes, they'll have the hero drop a few floors while catching the fallng person, but other times....

The most ludicrous ones are the ones where someone falls several stories but grabs someone’s hand in the way down, with everyone being just fine after.

It kind of amsues me that Shazam! and Captain Marvel are coming out so close to each other. They are far enough apart to not noticeably impact each other's box office, but they are close enough together that the second Shazam! trailer was likely timed so it would play in front of Captain Marvel.

Watching a movie about a superhero named Captain Marvel? You might like our movie about a superhero that was originally named Captain Marvel!

I love that the second trailer had Freddy's name for him be "Captain Sparklefingers." Because one of Carol's nicknames during KSD's run was "Captain Sparklefists."

It's very ironic that DC films have become much more light-hearted while the MCU films have become somewhat darker with Infinity War and Endgame (don't know about CM). Like the poles have been inverted or something.

Marvel will eventually swing back again. I mean, the movie after Infinity War was Ant-man and the Wasp. In general, they can all do whatever fits the story in question.
