Does Ivo Shandor count? They finally fight him face to face in the video game (which is canon to the IDW comics).

Ghostbusters strikes me as taking the Lovecraftian approach to magic: There are no wizards flinging spells at each other, but there are plenty of ritualists who sacrifice things to reach beyond the mortal world and gain favors from entities mankind has no business meeting.

Writing a post-post apocalypse LitRPG on RR. Also fanfic stuff.

I'm pretty sure they encountered demons and lovecraftian horrors in the cartoons.

[up]That episode was pretty good about the mythos as well, especially the idea that you had to mitigate the factors in his summoning to get rid of him, rather than be able to actually harm him directly.

The original idea for Ghostbusters 2 was supposed to be more about exploring otherworldly dimensions (a rumor says the script was modified into Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey). It would have been much different than "ghosts appear, team organizes and investigates, beat the Big Bad." The video game was probably closer to that premise, and even the reboot explored the idea even if all that came of it was more ghosts to fight.

One thing also brought up in the video game and the reboot was the idea of an anti-ghostbuster, someone using similar technology to breach ghostly barriers. Egon noted that Shandor was probably the premiere paranormal expert of his time, and couldn't help but be impressed.

One downside in general was that the first film was more of an adult horror/comedy, but the superhero aspects made it quite appealing to kids. The sequel and of course the animated series were much more toned down. I'm fine with them dropping the adult humor, but the horror elements also suffered in that switch.

My understanding is that the game is canon, period. Not just to the IDW comics.

I remember they were marketing it as "Ghostbusters 2.5" and saying that it's officially part of both canons. The Realistic version is canon to the films, while the Stylistic version is canon to the Real Ghostbusters cartoon.

Whichever version you prefer, the game is canon.

[up][up]You could market adult movies to kids in the 80’s. They had Robocop toys and Rambo toys, because your 8 year old wouldn’t grow up to be a proper man without seeing lots of blood squibs.

The 2016 film had too much CGI at the end. I don't know how to quantify how much is too much, but it just seemed like the story got drowned in pixels at the end.

And the Bill Murray cameo just reeked of "I do not want to be here." No cameos this time.

The idea of Ghostbusters in alternate dimensions is an intriguing one.

To be fair, Bill Murray looks like that whenever he does anything these days.

[up][up][up] To be fair, there were James Bond toys in the 60s. Yes, the 60s Bond, not the campy Roger Moore era.

[up][up][up] The scene of Holtzmann just wailing on those 1920s ghosts with her laser whip things was dope as fuck, excessive CGI be damned. Also, Dan Aykroyd's cameo made me laugh out loud. "They're just class-5 floatin' vapors, nothin' ta worry about."

Since this has turned into a general Ghostbusters film, apparently both John Belushi and (after Belushi's death) Richard Pryor were considered for the role of Venkman. I wonder how they would have approached the role.

The studio would not comment on plot details, but sources say the story will focus on a single mom and her family, with Coon playing the mom and Wolfhard playing her son. It’s currently unknown how that will connect to the new Ghostbusters team.

It's probably just the b-plot that will tie into the a-plot about the original/new team.

But these are not the first plot details I would have leaked.

[up] It doesn't sound like it. All signs point to the movie being centered around a young cast.

Cast update: McKenna Grace is in the movie as Finn Wolfhard's character's sister.

For the uninitiated, McKenna Grace recently appeared as young Carol Danvers in Marvel's Captain Marvel.

I wonder what they're going to call this film. Ghostbusters 3 is too obvious, Ghostbusters:Legacy (since this is going to be about a new team of younger Ghostbusters) could work.

Sigourney Weaver confirmed for the "third" film.

No official word on Ernie Hudson yet.

EDIT: Just saw on Twitter, Jason Reitman wrote that "Ernie Hudson read the script..." so.... I guess that's a yes?
