I thought it was 48 demons.
Disgusted, but not surprisedIt was! Emphasis on was. They lowered the count in the anime to fit everything into a single cour

And considering he apparently never got to fight all 48 in the manga, that was probably a wise move. >.>
One of the animators started he is working on an episode 15, so it’s mroe then one four.
It’d say it’s twelve demons that have hyakkimaruks body parts, and most of the other 48 could end up being minor demons in the way of the 12 important ones.
Watch SymphogearOr he just handles them in quick moments.
Either way, I think Dororo is the best new show of the season so far.
He does get to fight all 48 demons in the videogame adaptation Blood Will Tell at least.

Disgusted, but not surprised12 demons fits its 24 ep runtime better than 48

Anyone ever see the 2007 movie? It was pretty solid. It also only had Hyakkimaru getting back 24 parts, but that's because of the And the Adventure Continues ending implying he'll get the other 24 back.

I did find it funny that the person playing Dororo also played Mitsuko from Battle Royale.
I think my first Dororo media was Blood will Tell...I've seen the movie, read the manga, seen the old anime series...
It's a franchise I have a shocking amount of fondness for.
Blood Will Tell is actually how I heard about Dororo in the first place. My college housemate had the game, and I watched him play it. Then I researched it and found out it was based on an Osamu Tezuka manga.
Same here. I watched a Blood Will Tell Let's Play first before finding out it was based on a manga.
Disgusted, but not surprisedYeah, Blood Will Tell is the first I heard about Dororo, then the movie is the first I actually experienced (didn't have a PS 2 at the time).
... could probably stand to give Blood Will Tell its own page. Which... huh. Means that we've got a Manga page, a Video Game page, and an Anime folder (which could and probably should also be split off). Meaning it would be trivial to make it qualify for a Franchise/ page which is... surprising for such an obscure franchise.

I thought I might be the only one to wonder.
Also it seems that Hyakkimaru has killed demons before. Maybe 36 of them? (Re: 12 instead of 48 demons).

I guess the demons didn't have a need for… that.
I also don't quite get how he can move so smoothly with wooden limbs that have no nerves. Automails they are not.
That's something you just extend your suspension of disbelief on here.
Man what a fucked up state he’s in.
It’s worst than what Hellen Keller went through, at least she had touch.
"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."He has touch now...
Watch SymphogearIn the original manga, Hyakkimaru has to rely on Psychic Powers to make up for his lost body parts.
In Blood Will Tell he's instead The Chosen One with divinely gifted power meant to fight demons. That same power is what keeps him alive even without his body parts. That's why he gets improved stats and abilities whenever he recovers a body part — it's freeing up more of his power.

Disgusted, but not surprisedYeah, I just learned that he was telepathic is the original manga.
Which I'm kind of torn about? Like they are a bunch of moments in this where I'm left scratching my head over how Hyakkimaru was able to understand what was going on if he's supposed to be deaf, numb, and can only see the vague outlines of living things. But on the other hand, if he's got aura sight, magically articulating prosthetics and telepathy, then his disabilities cease to really matter- he becomes, at least in my eyes, a significantly less compelling character, and doesn't have a strong reason to want to reclaim his body parts.
"He has a sixth sense" seems to be the explanation
Sure he can move and fight and survive in his current state, but it's probably not very comfortable. Keep in mind he has to use his psychic powers to do everything his body parts would normally do.
Disgusted, but not surprisedI hope when he becomes capapable of speech he can explain what it’s like to live like that.
It must be so empty & lonely.
"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."
There was no thread for this, so here it is.
Dororo is adapted from Tedzuka Osamu's 1967 manga, with a more gritty artstyle. It follows the quest of Hyakkimaru, a wandering samurai who was born without most of his body parts due to a Deal with the Devil made by his power-hungry feudal lord of a father − he is blind, deaf, mute, has prostetic arms and legs and no skin on his face. Not the best lot in life. Hyakkimaru must slay 12 demons to recover those body parts one by one… and in the process stumbles upon Dororo, a young orphaned thief of unclear gender who will accompany him in his journey.
So far the action, soundtrack and pacing are very solid, so I'm curious to see where this will go. =]
