Yeah, let's go!
Ify leads the crew down the tunnel... however, it is apparent immediately that lighting the way will not be necessary. The tunnel has been lit up by torches. From the tunnel, a youthful-looking, skinny, redheaded man is stumbling toward the crew, with a busted arm.
Horseshoe! What happened?!
"Oh my... what happened to you, lad?"
Oof, that looks... (Ira feels a bit sick to his stomach.) What did that to you?
Klamptrap was shocked at the man's broken arm.
Klamptrap: Great Ragsbeard, boy, what trouble did you come across?
10 nautical miles away at a neighboring island
A giant, bipedal wolf-like being with dark gray fur lay hidden in the foliage, his golden eye scanning the small seaport below the hill he's on through a pair of binoculars. Around his mouth is a dark blue bandanna with the skeletal mouth of a wolf printed on it in a faded white. A large, jagged scar is across his right eye, though his vision is just fine.
"Why are we out here again, Dirus?"
The wolf sighed and turned to his naive comrade.
Dirus: This is a reconnaissance mission. Our orders are to look for anything that would be of interest to the captain, such where the guards are posted and where something of value can be found. We know the fabled Ring of Ferzik is at this city, and it's our mission to help figure out where!
The other pirate, a young man that the crew recruited a few weeks ago, tilted his head in confusion.
"But I thought the captain was after some egg pieces?"
Dirus was tempted to do a facepalm but restrained himself, reacting with an annoyed growl.
Dirus: He is, it's just that this treasure was in the area of one of them and he figured he'd go after the ring as well.
The two remained quiet as they searched the city through their binoculars. After a while they each spot something different.
Dirus: I spot a guard tower to the north of the harbor and one to the south of the harbor!
"In the center of the city I see what looks to be a museum! I bet the treasure is in there!"
The wolf grins.
Dirus: Very good, let's double-check to make sure we covered all the interest points, then report back to the captain.

Horseshoe scoffs. Gravity. I'm glad my arm held on, otherwise I'd be toast!
What does that mean, boy?
I was walking through the tunnel, when the ground beneath me fell. I grabbed onto the ground, and was able to save myself. I don't think that Mr. Goat was so lucky...
Horseshoe leads the crew to the site of his injury; a lit up floor, which looks like so:
This looks like a children's puzzle.
The last thing we need is to waste time over more puzzles. Horseshoe, I'll take you back to the ship. We can send Click, Settle, and Burst over to figure this out.
No captain, we can figure this out! He stands tall, before the pain in his arm strikes again, sending him to his knees. Ify puts Horseshoe over his shoulder, and walks off.
Inside the black spaces of the floor are, in fact, open spaces, leading to the floor below. A peak underneath the floor, will lead a crew member to several skeletal remainders of past adventurers. The most recent; a still fresh body of a goat-man, impaled through the neck.
Yeesh... suppose that's the Safety General.
To the side, are very clear runes, scratched into the wall. Duane notices said Runes. Hold on, I think I sort of recognize some of this language... He begins examining said runes.

Melvin shudders at the corpses. "So, that's how it is..."
"Go, Duane! I'm sure you can do it. ...Or we can look for something to help us translate the runes if you need help."

(Ira feels sick to his stomach at the sight, particularly of the unfortunate goat.)
Oof, I'm glad I didn't just eat... (He snorts, rubbing his stomach.)
Parada looks into the hole and grimaces. She'd known that doing this was gonna be dangerous, but it's still a bit shocking to her.
Klamptrap's eyes grow wide in recognition of the puzzle.
Klamptrap: My captain encountered something like this once, though I'm certain that they didn't share the same letters, so I don't think I can help you here.
Duane turns back. Okay, so, this is very clearly old Peperit. I remember some of it from my old Historic Languages class. It's kinda dead, but there's something very simplistically memorable about it, y'know? It was a farm-based, god-fearing society, y'know? Dad teaches ya everything you know.
Now, I can get most of this. The runes translate roughly to; Aloa Uon Alwerr Ger Cargoam, which is, uh, Allow the One to Hide to Be... uh, Cargoam... wait a minute. Hold on... Mr. Cross introduced himself as magister, lśrer, cargoam. It was like some funny thing, those are all words for teacher, but, it doesn't make sense.
Well...Ezekiel reckons he doesn't need to throttle the sod after all. Though he'd rather he'd gotten to him first...in fact, it's really rather much...he backs away from the unpleasant image.
"...now just a moment." He steps towards one of the platforms, the one labeled P, and reaches over to press his hand firmly against it. "This may not be a matter of linguistics, but of physics..." If nothing happened then, he'll raise his fist to strike the platform.
Tom looks over to the defeated frog, and turns on his feet once more to begin returning to the ship. At least all that's over with, and they can finally get somewhere safe and wait for the others to return. Plus, he'd have some time to work on cleaning up the ship and getting to know the insides better now that he didn't have to sail it.
The ĎPí does not falter either time.

"Well..." says Melvin. "I'm guessing we have to walk across the right combination of letters in order to not die. But how do we know which ones to choose? I don't see any combinations that look like coherent words... JSYUAOVFM, heh."
"Maybe 'cargoam' is an anagram for something? Car go am... orca gam... AC Margo... ugh, my head hurts. Is there something we're missing?" Melvin keeps looking around the tunnel.

Klamptrap looks at the puzzle for a few moments, then gazes down at his wheeled feet before speaking up in a somewhat embarrassed tone.
Klamptrap: Well mateys, since this looks like one of those puzzles that may require jumping skills, I'd have to swallow me pride and request that one of you carry me when ye find the answer, as these wheels o' mine aren't exactly leaping quality. As for my guess for the puzzle, "cargoam" doesn't ring a bell for me, so perhaps its letters are the safe tiles?

Well, I was never that good at word puzzles, so I'm open for any ideas for what the answer is that you guys have. (Ira says as he hefts Kalmptrap over his shoulder.)

Hmm. Ezekiel would've expected that to break through...standing back up, he carefully makes his way onto the platform marked "P", unconsciously holding his breath as he does. He would very much rather not join Safety General Keats down in that pit if he could help it, and live for many more years after if he could help that as well.
The 'P' seems to falter for a mere moment from under Ezekiel, however, it turns out just to be settling, and it stands firm.
Ezekiel breathes a sigh of relief, clutching his chest. Right then...P...his head spins as he looks at the letters around him...what would come after P here? Maybe he was wrong to scoff at Ms. Beckett when she offered to teach him Preperit...and it's not like his years out at sea could've possibly prepared him for this.
What immediately jumps out at him is the O to the left. Figuring nothing of it, he hops onto the O.

Ezekiel lands on the O, yet again, wavering downward under his weight, but thankfully settling.
Duane perks up. Woah, Zeke. How'd ya figure that out?
A moment of lucidity after the platform settles makes Ezekiel realize how lucky he was there. He looks back at Duane, still a little surprised with himself. "Well...as far as I am aware of in the field of linguistics, the vowels have something of a tendency to come after the consonants."

Want us to start following you, Zeke? (Ira asks.) Hope those steps can hold both me and Klamptrap...
It should at least be able to support me...
Duane follows Zeke across the letters.
An idea occurs to Klamptrap.
Klamptrap: Say Ira, you have disguising powers right? Why don't you disguise yourself a pair of huge wings and simply fly over the puzzle to the other side?
Gabrielle, ignoring her earlier fatigue, concentrates as her feet slowly lift off the ground. She then follows the rest across.
