Rolfen chuckles, bending down to try and ensure Melvin can hug more than just his kneecaps.

"Someone's pleased to see me, then!"

Jerrid speaks up, and Rolfen gives him a brief suspicious glance. He quickly puts it aside, though, trying to keep up a cheery look for the sake of his old companion.

"Hm? So you didn't come here just to meet ol' Rolfen again, I take it? My, my, I'm almost disappointed..."

He chuckles again, trying to make his suspicions seem like nothing more than a joke.

"Anyway! Rosamund, yes. That's the Bishop's name. You'll have to wait a bit if you want an audience, I'm afraid, she's busy right now."

The Beach

One of the robed Aquinists responds to Ira.

"A new priest is being ordained. The ceremony will take a while yet, travelers. Stay only if you care to."

Bright Eyes gave Rolfen a quick bow. "It's nice to meet you, finally," she said. "The name's Bright Eyes. I would've introduced myself at the bank, but I was keepin' a low profile at the time."

She then stepped closer, nudging Jerrid along the way, and lowered her voice. "Speakin' of keepin' a low profile, we need a way into her good graces 'fore we get an audience. She's got a thing we need an' not much reason to give it to us. We reckon you could help. Got any favours we could do for the temple or such?"

Jerrid listens as Bright Eyes clarifies her plan with Rolfen. Simple in theory, yes, try and win their favor. In execution? Who knows.

Well, I could also try and appeal to the thing I know I'd have in common with her. But yeah, if we can help with anything, I'm down.

"Alright, you got us," Melvin says, also with an uneasy chuckle. "We are here to see Rosamund," he says, letting go of the hug. "But don't think for a second that I didn't also want to visit you. How's life here treating you?"

Rolfen frowns deeply at everyone present except for Melvin. The other assorted priests, who before this point had been hanging back in their own group, unwilling to disturb the reunion, also shoot the crew a few shifty glances.

"She's ordaining a new priest, if you're that desperate to know. Please, have some patience. She can't be everywhere at once."

He looks back down to Melvin.

"Ah, it's been fine. The quiet life's what I needed after everything old Flamebeard put me through."

The Beach

Sennen puts a hand to her chin in thought.

"...while we're here. That, out in the deep water. You seem pretty intrigued by it. What is it?"

"Oh, don't worry. That's just the ordination ceremony."

Sennen stares.

"...it's the fucking what now."

The Cathedral

Bright Eyes started flicking her tail rapidly. Wasn't the point of this that we not rush in to confront an archmage on her turf where she can do whatever she wants to us? I didn't call for an early appointment with potential fiery death.

"That's fine," she said, smiling and putting up her hands. "No need to rush. In the meantime, we can work on makin' ourselves presentable. Anything we can do that might impress the Bishop?"

Cathedral

(Pablo follows Bright Eyes' lead.) Uh...can we...I dunno, get her anything or something?

Beach

Can someone explain what's in the water? ("Estelle" asks. Esmeralda hopes that it isn't something dangerous.)

"Yes, we don't mind helping out around here if we can. I know we showed up a little unexpectedly..." says Melvin.

Cathedra

Jerrid keeps to himself for now, figuring his concerns were once again covered by Bright Eyes and Melvin...but not forgetting the fact that he had to start planning out just how to appeal to Rosamund.

Kauri peeks his head out from behind Pablo and curiously looks over at everyone else, especially Rolfen.

Mikaela crossed her arms.

"Best we not rush it, I imagine this ceremony is pretty important and sacred," she said before contemplating what everyone else was on to. "I imagine a simple gift of some kind would be appreciated. Even if it's like, super mundane or even something she doesn't really care for, it'd be an appreciated gesture."

Cathedral

What sorta stores are around here anyway? (Pablo mutters, glancing around.)

Rolfen just shrugs.

"The Bishop tends to keep to herself. If you really wanted to give her a gift, she'd probably prefer something small, unobtrusive. Something that wouldn't become a big song and dance."

The Shore

"I just told you. Twice, even. It's an ordination ceremony."

"Yeah, I got that part, but why is the ordination ceremony in the middle of the fuckin' ocean?"

The priest gives Sennen an unamused look.

"Language."

"Yeah, I know, sorry, sorry, but - how? Why? Are they fish or somethin' if they can survive out there?"

"No, simply Aquinists."

Sennen looks utterly confused.

A small gift? Huh...

Jerrid cocks his head into the direction of Bright Eyes to confer with her on the issue.

What's the play? What do you think we could do for that? We gotta ensure that we win her favor.

The tail of Bright Eyes puffed up noticeably. That won't buy us the shard - she'll want more than just a small favour for it. All it'll buy us is time. Let's hope that's enough for a better plan.

"I'd say something she can't get here," she replied. "Maybe from her home island? Nothing big or grand, but she should still like it."

"I, um..." Kauri takes the sheathed sword off from his shoulders and presents it. "I have this?"

Erm...I have this hat? (Pablo says, taking the hat he has been wearing off his head.) I don't really have much of anything else...

Beach

Does becoming an Aquinist mean you take lung exercises to make them strong enough to stay underwater for a long time or something? (Ira hazards a guess.)

"Simplest but nicest gift I can imagine is some kind of flower if not a bouquet. Preferably something they don't see every day," Mikaela suggested. "Though... I'm not sure we can readily get one of those right now."

She scratched the back of her head.

"I guess we could try making something too? I've done simple little ice sculptures with Yurlungur's power before but I imagine we'd want something bigger and grander for someone of this status."

The wolf has to think on the fly and respond to Bright Eyes's questions with one of his own.

Well....how fast can we even get there if it has to come to that?

"Whatever works for you. She'd appreciate the gesture more than the object anyway."

The Shore

The priest chuckles.

"After a fashion. Worshippers of the water god learn to coexist with the ocean soon enough."

"What's that supposed to mean?"

"It means the ability to survive underwater is one of an Aquinist priest's fundamental skills. That is the ordination ritual. The new priest must dwell under the open ocean for three hours without surfacing for air. Succeed, and they join the clergy. Fail, they return to the seminary to try again at a later date."

"...won't that kill 'em if they ain't ready?"

"Don't be ridiculous. What do you think the accompaniment is for?"

Sure enough, there are at least three unclear shapes moving under the distant waves.

I don't have any sort of carpentry skills or sculpting skills or...making anything skills that I know of, but I guess I can still help where I can. (Pablo says to Mikaela.) If we're gonna be making something, anyway. To be honest, I'd hate to have to swim all the way back to that cold place.

Shore

Aha! I get it now. Interesting... (Ira says, looking closer at the prospective clergyfolk swimming under the water.)

("Estelle" can't help but feel that Ira in particular is highly qualified for Aquinist priesthood. Or (not that Esmeralda would flat-out say it to her face, mind) even Cleo for that matter to an extent. They have to have healthy strong lungs with all the hot air they spit out.)
