I've seen how Super Robot Wars worked, and yet I was surprised that for many many crossovers Shonen Jump had, it's always going to be a short-lived fighter or party game with very minimum story or crossover interactions. Granted, I understand that it's fight scenes that are the main attraction of Shonen series (unless it's about sports or something nonviolent), but I am always wondering why they never attempted something like this. Like a Super Shonen Wars or something.
Is it all impossible to make a massive Shonen crossover that has elements of Super Robot Wars about blending the plots of the featured series altogether? Is it the massive differences between settings? Or is it the ever prevalent arguments of Power Level which is aplenty in Shonen series and might make things unfair if mixed with other series (How come robot series never ran into that kind of problem?)?
Let's try to discuss on examining the plot-mixing of series included in SRW and see if they can be implemented in other genres, like Shonen genre. And hell, maybe one day, it could expand to other genres like Magical Girl, Mon... For reference, this is how this very wiki summarized the usual plot of SRW and we'll see how we can apply that to other genres:
Take the story of every Humongous Mecha series included, put it in a blender, and set to "liquefy". The player usually sees the story through the eyes of an original character and their mecha, possibly through different protagonists and different story routes. As the story begins to wind down, an additional threat makes itself known, and the gathered heroes come together to beat the unholy hell out of it. Of course, the interactions can sometimes have an interesting effect on various characters.
