- Shark is named Beam, and I love him already. He's so dumb.

I don't know if I'd really use that term. Denji's not really super attached or the rend-clothes-and-scream-at-sky type. Even the bit with going nuclear on Shadman's nuts was only partially about avenging Himeno and more, well, fuck that guy.

I mean, this manga's popularity in west seems to be just about it being unusual in terms of typical shonen characterizations

Yeah, no thanks. On top of being in bad taste (but good taste isn't exactly what defines this manga), it just seems a bit too obvious when they outright announce it like that. Like a variant of the Unspoken Plan Guarantee.

Hmm yeah, the death flags are so super heavy that if author actually goes through the fridging, I'm pretty sure this is genuinely on bad side of writing after wards since its not even too far from the last time

I am on the fence concerning things, because it feels like the author is playing things way too obvious with Look! Look! Death Flag! and that makes me suspicious. But this series has been very difficult to predict thus far, I'm not even going to attempt to predict things right now.
