A lot of people seem to think he's a golem of sorts, given he had (has?) blue blood and there's an intro where he puts his head back on. Plus, there's an intro where Raiden wants to separate him from Kronika so Geras can have an identity.
Beyond that I don't think we know enough to say for sure
Accidental double-post, please ignore.

I would say definitely not a robot. He is magical in nature, not technological.
For a few minutes, the game's website had a "Roster" page which was then taken down.
The most interesting things we learned were the currently known characters' bios, and that there will be at least 29 playable characters (though some have pointed out the possibility that the extra squares may have been for DLC.)
If 25 really is the starting roster (I forgot) then it's just going to be a little over MK X's final roster.
I doubt there'll be over 2 DLC characters packs
I hope all the Kombat Kids come back, Jin with a better design especially. None of the rumors or leaks have suggested it but he deserves a second chance in at least the visual department.
I kanít imagine Jin not returning especially by virtue of being the only gay Kombatant in the Kast.

I bet you they put two of the Kombat Kids in the game proper and carve the other two out for DLC.
It's what I would do if I was a soulless AAA marketer.

Here's an idea for a character that I think could make it into the game (Whether in the base roster or as DLC); Havik. Any thoughts?
Not every character needs to be in every game. As much as they werenít a travesty like some of the 3D eraís characters, half of Xís newcomers would be lucky to come back. Cassie, Kotal, and DíVorah feel pretty essential, and the fans REALLY took to Erron. Jacqui, Takeda, Kung Jin, and Ferra/Tor getting one spot between them feels about right. I would have picked Takeda, but if they want to do a new take on Jacqui, whatever. I donít make the games.
And I highly doubt EITHER Takeda or Jin is coming back as DLC. There are six DLC characters, and letís be real, two of those are guests. Theyíre not giving up half of the MK slots to characters people arenít particularly into. MAYBE one of them will make the cut. Maybe. Unlikely, but possible. CERTAINLY not both.
This take is so cold that if you licked it your tongue would get stuck. Havikís THE most requested character post-original trilogy.

I feel that the 3D era fighters have more of a chance to become playable than Takeda and Jin.
I believe, outside of 2-4 guests, that Rain and Fujin are pretty high up there for DLC
I donít find Rain or Fujin particularly likely, honestly. Rain more than Fujin, but I would kind of prefer to not see either.
I'm annoyed there was more emphasis on Kung Jin's jerkass aspect than his depths
I donít know who will end up being DLC, but I feel like if Kronikaís not in the base roster (which is looking to be likely), then sheíll make a playable appearance as DLC.
You'd be amazed how people will cling to one aspect of a character... even if they outgrow it
I feel like Ed Boon will put in whatever characters he feels like having and can reasonably accommodate for.
We probably won't be seeing Hsu Hao. Everybody else is fair game.
Meat and Mokap seem unlikely and given there was explicit wording on him not appearing in the reboot alongside Hsu Hao, the same goes for Chameleon. Motaro can also be scratched off on account of his design making it impossible to bring him back.
That and his death has, so far, stuck.
To this day I'm amazed that Jo Jo's 6-direction fighting game can have characters on horseback while Mortal Kombat, the decade-old fighting franchise, can't have a centaur.
Though those games are full 3D.
How much work would it need to make Motaro suffer a fatality?
That and X-Rays in 9 are, I believe, EXPLICITLY the reason Motaro hasnít been playable.
I mean, look at Geras's second fatality from earlier. That just seems a lot harder to pull off when you have a centaur body.
Make him a boss character that can't be played normally who you can't perform fatalities on.
Like Shao Kahn.
And Corrupted Shinnok.
