Sorry to derail this so early, but there's a Mega Man movie in the oven? How much more of my childhood Hollywood wants to ruin!?

You can actually find a Mega Man movie up on Youtube believe it or not. It's not half bad either.

Ok, who let Light Yagami in here?

The games aren't big on plot, but they do have quite a bit of worldbuilding.

Which makes this whole thing even worse! A goldmine of narrative opportunities that they proceeded to ignore and went with the laziest route possible.

It's like going to a buffet and only eating the boiled eggs, the hells the damn point?

Fair point, but you don't need to spend money on a buffet to do that, do you? Boiled egg is the one recipe in the world anyone can do.

I will say this much, not having a set cast of characters means that these characters aren’t replacing anyone.

Why the first picture we were given looks like a remake of Three Kings is still beyond me, but there’s no real star to take over from.

Tony Jaa is apparently in this as a native monster hunter as well, so at least the action should be good.

Let me guess, Milla Jovovich's character is gonna be the most super awesome overpowered character with no weaknesses and the most screentime, all because she's married to the director.

[up] Wouldn't be surprised if it turned out that way. tongue

(Kinda wishing Adi Shankar netted the rights to Monster Hunter, but then we probably would've ended up with a Devil May Cry movie by Paul W.S. Anderson...)

And that would be a good thing how, exactly?

And besides, he'd probably pick up Bayonetta so he could suck up to his wife a bit more.

I think Bayonetta might actually play to Anderson’s strengths more. A one woman army dressed in tight clothing and is the center of the universe pretty much describes Alice.

I seriously hate to say it, but him meeting and eventually marrying Jovovich was probably the worst thing to happen to Anderson as a filmmaker.

Was he any good before that?

He did do the incredibly underrated Event Horizon before that.

Hmmm, can't say I've watched that one. Always thought it was a Alien rip-off

It's a pretty awesome film. Think of it as being a prequel to Warhammer 40K, a space-themed Berserk, or Dead Space before Dead Space. I'll just let Good Bad Flicks describe it here (some spoilers, so be warned):

If anything, it shows how much passion and care Anderson had for filmmaking before he became infatuated with Jovovich, and only made films to show her off.

[up] You know, I was going to say you're being too harsh about the Milla thing since to my knowledge she was only in the RE movies, then I looked at his wiki page and... yeah.

Anderson began dating Resident Evil star Milla Jovovich when they met on the 2002 film. He proposed to Jovovich in 2003, but the two separated for a period of time before becoming a couple again. So... Resident Evil Apocalypse was just one long "I want you back, baby!"

Considering Mortal Kombat is one of the best video game adaptation movies out there, and even the original Resident Evil movie (made before he started dating Milla) was fine, if needlessly divergent... yeah, your statement holds up.

Also she was in The Three Musketeers (2011). That's all I have to say because I literally do not remember that movie existing.

Considering Mortal Kombat is one of the best video game adaptation movies out there.

The fact that a So Bad, It's Good martial arts flick is the best Hollywood can manage never fails to depress me.

Don't think I'll watch Event Horizon 'cause I'm a giant chicken and it's a horror movie, but it does seem like whatever skill and talent Mr. Anderson had went down the drain.

Though I don't think he actually cares all that much. At least, I woudn't if I were him.

He's got a ridiculous amount of money and a hot wife. Who does seem pretty cool from interviews I've seen.

[up][up]The only reason Mortal Kombat is good IMO is because it takes all its cues from a much better film.

You gotta admit, most people would not make several films to tell their wife how much they love them.

Well the original MK game was taking several cues from Enter The Dragon itself so it isn't surprising the movie would follow suit.

To stir the conversation back to Monster Hunter, how much money do you guys think this will make?
