The entry for Mattress-Tag Gag says that it is discredited because the tags have specified "except for the consumer" since at least the 1960s, but I definitely remember seeing and being freaked out by tags that did not specify this (or at least not clearly enough for me to catch it) when I was a little kid in the early 2000s. Does anyone else have this experience?

I've seen the Mattress-Tag Gag used in stuff made after the 1960s. Just because a trope gets discredited doesn't mean people don't use it, especially when this is being used as a joke.

No, I don't mean media that use this trope, I mean actual 'mattresses' that use this trope. I definitely remember seeing mattresses/pillows/etc that did not specify "except the consumer" growing up in the early 2000s, and being scared about removing the tag.
