Overshadowed By Controversy Cleanup

I'm not a fan of Pokemon, but from what I can tell, Sword & Shield is far from being overshadowed by controversy- they were the fastest-selling games on the Switch, and the whole National Dex thing eventually died down and had no effect on the game sales.. The example provided actually sounds more fitting for Why Fandom Can't Have Nice Things.

The natdex thing was a controversy. A major one.

And yet, I haven't heard anyone talk about it in a while.

This is coming from someone who was actually upset over it, too. Like, I was involved for about a week in the hashtag- and even though the lack of all pokemon still Grinds my Klink, it's really not a big deal anymore, and nobody seems to care that much about it.

The expansion pass having returning pokemon helped a lot, especially the reveal that a software update will allow old pokemon into Sword/Shield whether you buy the expansion or not.

Turns this into a Ruby/Sapphire scenario from 2003, rather than the pokemon flat-out being missing for a generation.

You'll have to wait until May 15th, broken base entries have a 6-month delay.

It was released on November 15th, 2019, so as of writing this it's only been 4 months.

This was just added to OvershadowedByControversy.Live Action Films:

• Aquaman 2 has not yet been released but is already overshadowed by the continuing controversy of keeping Amber Heard on as Mera, given that recordings have been released of her admitting to abusing Johnny Depp.

I removed it and cited our No Recent Examples, Please! rule for the page.

Does the Tomodachi Life example still count? While the controversy WAS significant, it's been forgotten now that the game has been out in the west for 6 years, and those who remember know that it was a misunderstanding on the part of the news outlets. Plus, Nintendo actually apologized for it. Not to mention, a game that sold over 6 million units and became its console's tenth highest selling game being overshadowed by controversy is a bit sketch. (Although that might have to do with the game being very well marketed and its target audience being unaware of the controversy)

I say it doesn't count anymore. It doesn't seem like the game is overshadowed by it.

Cause you know, people are assholes. Actual serious answer: Someone must been living in a rock given that none of them heard about the 6 months wait or something like that rule.

I agree with cutting the Tomodachi Life example.

NOTE: When you see a List of Transgressions example, please cut it down to what you think is the most overshadowing. We do not want to use the trope for listing every bad thing someone has done.

Somebody else restored the Rob Moor example on Channel Awesome, so I cut it again with a commented explanation.

Also, there are some examples in the Fighting Game Community that I feel the need to discuss. I don't know enough about the Noel Brown controversy to comment on it, the Evo 2018 Smash and Infiltration related entries are likely valid, the Snake Tekken 7 prank one could be debated, and I deleted the Capcom Cup 2019 and Evo Japan 2020 examples for being to recent. Also, for the valid examples, where would be a good place to post them on the main indexes?

Question, why do we have YMMV for a Useful Notes page like that one? Aren’t those not allowed?

I can't say for certain, but I believe that applies to individuals. Otherwise the Olympic Games one would need to be nuked as well. Probably others out there too.

I'm not sure this counts as a "controversy", plus it's way too recent. Though given how the game has been un-launched and cancelled, it's unlikely that it'll ever be possible to discuss it without bringing up that subject, so it might qualify as a special case.

I would like to present this example on YMMV.Gacha Life. It may need some verification of if it really "overshadows".

• Overshadowed by Controversy: Most discussion of the game is centered around the discovery that several of Gacha Life's users have been making softcore pornographic content aimed at the game's underage fanbase. With child safety being a big issue these days, the developers issued an update to rid any Video Game Perversity Potential to stop this.

I'm unsure about that... although I have seen a lot of people talking about the amount of sexual stuff children are making in the game, it's still super-popular among a lot of kids nevertheless. I'm leaning towards cutting.
