To be honest, Characters.Super Smash Bros could use a different image too, it just feels like a different crop and size of VideoGame.Super Smash Bros Ultimate, a bit too similar. How about the latest characters select screen? Cropped to remove HUD elements, may need to be changed once DLC comes out.

Currently mostly inactive. An incremental game I tested: https://galaxy.click/play/176 (Gods of Incremental)Yeah, the fact that the Smash Bros. characters image was just a horizontal version of the Ultimate image bugged me too. The roster image could work, but if we pick it, the note should say something like "chosen by Image Pickin' thread, but please replace when DLC characters are available". We did use the roster images when each game had its own characters page, but it's split up differently now.

Keet cleanupHonestly, I'd prefer to not have a pic than having something that squishes so many of them together that it's hard to see what's going on.
I agree with that.
(Annoyed grunt)Bump. First, I want to say that since this thread which was originally for Awesome.Super Smash Bros has stalled, I'd say it's very unlikely we may actually find a new image for the Awesome page. I'd recommend waiting until the game releases, which is three weeks, so it really won't take long.
But for a matter we can fix now, I found an image for Characters.Super Smash Bros, a same roster pic but with higher quality (it does look somewhat poor when you zoom in though, since I had to compress it to 350 px before uploading, due to the 2 MB limit, and I didn't want to risk seeing what changing to JPG could do to make it look worse):
I believe that while it's true this image is somewhat hindered by the 350 px width limit, I also think it's not as bad as people say. I could recognise every single character within 5 seconds at most on it. And we had an image that pretty squished like this on the fourth game's characters page:
Which really isn't that much better, but it was kept. So I think this image of the fifth game's roster should be good.
TLDR: Tell me whether you think my image suggestion of Ultimate's characters roster would look good for the characters page.

I agree. After all, Super Smash Bros Ultimate is where everyone is here.
As for the awesome page for Super Smash Bros overall? I say pull until better image is chosen because of what you said about the release date for Super Smash Bros Ultimate.

Support Piterpicher's suggestion for the characters page.

Sorry, but I can't agree to 7. It is way too squished.
Just because you can "recognize everyone within five seconds" doesn't mean most people can (I certainly couldn't), and you probably only can because you're already familiar with the roster. The fact that a similar image was used on an earlier version of the page is also not a compelling argument; it was a bad image then, it's a bad image now.
We wouldn't get away with using a cast image this squished on any other character page, I see no reason for SSB to be exempt from that.
I suggest leaving the current image on the character page, and finding a new image for the Awesome page, since it's not depicting anything particularly "awesome". It's literally just a cast image, perfect for a character page.

The image on the Characters page is still just a horizontal version of the one on Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, though.

Keet cleanupI really don't think that the current characters page should have an image that's just a different crop and size of the VideoGame.Super Smash Bros Ultimate page, it would feel too much like a duplicate. As for the Awesome.Super Smash Bros page, we may pull and wait until the game releases, since it's only two weeks to go now.
Still, I really don't think this image is as small as you say, and I think it's better because it displays 90%+ characters (not including the announced six DLC fighters) as opposed to the current's 45%+. And we do use images that display the full cast even if that may be squishing the image, see Characters.Sponge Bob Square Pants for example, that one is far worse since it has 150+ characters which are standing in random spots and are really tiny (I can recognise at the very most five characters on it), yet that image is kept. SSBU's roster features less characters and they're organised in rectangles, which are consistently placed and 26x17 (not a lot worse than 4's, which had 29x17), so it's not perfect, but better. And hey, perhaps an image that has difficulty to fit all the characters on 350 px width works since it shows that the character roster is just that robust.
TLDR: I don't think that the suggestion is that horribly small, there are far more squished images on character pages that are kept, and it's still a horizontal duplicate of the video game page's image.

Currently mostly inactive. An incremental game I tested: https://galaxy.click/play/176 (Gods of Incremental)God, that Spongebob image is horrible. That page isn't tagged with an IP thread, so it was not "kept" at all, someone just put it up and nobody's bothered to contest it yet. Characters. The Simpsons is just as bad (and also not tagged with an IP thread).
Some things to keep in mind:
1. Character indexes don't need their own images. Indexes consist solely of links to other pages, they're fine without their own images. Characters.Sonic The Hedgehog does not have an image and it's totally fine.
2. Likewise, character pages don't need an image at the top that just shows the whole cast, such a thing is completely superfluous. I'm not suggesting that we remove the ones that are already in place, but they're not integral. Pages aren't going to fall apart without one.
3. A whole cast image, if one is used, doesn't need to show literally every single character that has ever been on screen before. Seriously. It's overkill.
Is the image on the main page the final box art? If so, then just cut the image on the awesome and character pages. If not, then we should replace it with the box art, and stick with my original suggestion.

I replaced the SpongeBob characters image with a higher quality PNG version and linked to the full size, but I think we should keep them if they're not doing any harm. I think we should manually rearrange the icons on the character select screen to better fit the 350px size limit. The image on Awesome.Super Smash Bros could be pulled if we can't find a replacement.

Keet cleanupYeah, VideoGame.Super Smash Bros Ultimate's image really does appear to be the final box art. Then I guess we may as well pull the Awesome.Super Smash Bros (for at least two weeks) and Characters.Super Smash Bros image.
NVM for the characters page, rjd1922's suggestion for rearranging the icons manually sounds interesting. I myself would think a 9 row, 8 column image could work. The only problem is that rearranging will take time, and I'm kinda busy until 29 November which has lowered my ability to contribute to TVT, so don't expect it until the end of December. We may need to start a new thread for the characters page later.

Currently mostly inactive. An incremental game I tested: https://galaxy.click/play/176 (Gods of Incremental)Here it is with eight characters per row. It didn't feel right to split up the Mii Fighters, so I put them all in their own separate row. Piranha Plant can be added to the ninth row when it comes out.

Keet cleanupThank you so much... I'd say this looks really good. And since there will be five more DLC fighters after Piranha Plant, there will be no empty spots after a while.

The image for Super Smash Bros. Awesome page is the exact same image for Super Smash Bros. Character page.
In light of the new Nintendo Smash Direct, I suggest a new image for the Awesome page of Super Smash Bros since a poster of Smash Bros Ultimate with the tagline "Everyone is Here!" fits more with the character page. And considering the World of Light trailer:
We have plenty of possibilities to choose from AND also retain the quote "Infinity War, eat your heart out!''"
