Semi-recently, someone gave Movies with Mikey a TV Tropes page. Now, I'm giving it a thread.

(cue theme song)

For the uninitiated, Movies With Mikey is a movie analysis series on the FilmJoy channel, hosted by Gearbox alumnus Mikey Neumann. Neumann is basically the poster boy for the For Happiness philosophy, always looking for a silver lining in every movie he looks at (including films that have had less-than-stellar reception, like Last Action Hero, Batman & Robin, and A.I.: Artificial Intelligence), and generally trying to spread a message of "enjoy the movie, enjoy your fellow people, and enjoy life."

Basically, the series is great if you need a pick-me-up and also want to learn more about your favorite movies.

The whole series can be found in this playlist, and they're all standalone from each other, so you can dive in at any point. I personally would recommend his videos on The Iron Giant, Princess Mononoke, The Emperor's New Groove, and Shared Universes as starting points for the series, but you can start wherever you want. I won't judge.

His most recent video is a send-up to the conclusion of the Burton-Schumacher Batman series, Batman & Robin, discussing why it failed, and why Mikey can't get enough of it.

Go nuts.

The possum is a potential perpetrator; he did place possum poo in the plum pot.

His Harry Potter retrospective came at the right time, because Fantastic Beasts 2 has pretty much sapped whatever goodwill I had towards the franchise as a whole, and honestly making me consider doing a rewatch now that I'm older and can properly appreciate the work put into them.

It's fascinating to see Mikey put into words the disjointedness of HBP because that was the first film where I was more cognizant of the films working as adaptations.
