Alright, a new thread for me and I promise some of my friends to make this regardless of the quality of the anime. Anyways, today's anime that I want to be covered is called "Ulysses: Jeanne d’Arc to Renkin no Kishi". For those who doesn't know what is the anime about. Here's the basic premise from Random Curiosity:

"In the early 15th Century at the height of the Hundred Years War, France is under siege. Henry V, after victory at Agincourt, forces a treaty out of the mad Charles VI, positioning Henry’s sons as heirs to the French throne, all the while continuing the conquest of France’s vassal states. In this chaos the young Frenchman Montmorency had hoped to become a registered alchemist, but after Paris is occupied and his royal school is closed down, this nobleman’s son is left with nothing but a warrant to his name charging him with using black magic. With few places to run and even fewer friends to turn to, Montmorency makes for the countryside for a chance at survival, but it is here he finds the most unlikely source of salvation. In a small village at the edge of the fighting is a young shepherd named Jeanne, and Montmorency’s chance meeting with her will do more for his situation—and France’s—than he ever thought possible."

It's actually out on Crunchyroll and needless to say, some of the fans reception regarding it aren't that good (Same with Re Rided iirc) due to production problems. However, I don't think it detracts my enjoyment for the anime so yeah...I'm looking forward to this one. Anyone wants to despite the problem surrounding it?

Episode 1:

So our POV character for this episode is called Montmorency or some sort. He wanted to be a greatest alchemist in the world given that he lives in the age when France is at war against England. And is expected that the antagonist here is Henry V. Monty's friends are consisted of Richmont, Charlotte and Phillip (It's a she btw despite her masculine name) despite they are from different houses. They promised to make an oath that they will be best friends together despite their differences. Until the day changed when Richmond is taken away by England soldiers and as a result, Monty made a pact with a fairy queen called Astaroth to save Richmond.

Thoughts on the first episode? I hear that it has some production problems but I didnt see anything that resembles it. Also, I'm interested with this series regardless on what people say that and I'm not pretty much a biggie when it comes to historical inaccuracies because I didnt learn anything about Joan D'Arc so yeah...

Absolutely do not rely on this show to learn about this period of the Hundred Years War

This is the trash I can accept so I will follow

Lol at genderbending La Hire and Richemont is in a really bad spot

As to why the backgrounds of the characters are so important: Brittany is among the closest region to Britain, the French royal family is under attack in its legitimacy in the first place and it seems Charlotte will be the key royal instead of the Dauphin, and there are several distinct cultural regions in France at that time that weren’t all together in fighting against the English and allied with them like the Burgundians, and this is the important part, were the ones who captured Jeanne.

So basically I see it going down that everyone gets an unhappy end because of jelly feelings over MC

I’m interested

The show is a pretty bold anime premise in that it gets the usual cliches to dress up a very important part of European history and it’s not showing in a way that makes me respect the artistic quality of the show, to put it that way

I think it’s okay to like bad things and not fool yourself it’s better than it is. There’s plenty of tiddies and I guess this is a scratching an itch that’s been left by Nobunaga the Fool so I’m game

So who knows, just found out this is actually a LN series, and maybe it gets more entertaining, I’d like it to

I definitely encourage you to look up more about this time if you’re interested and for another anime portrayal of the Hundred Years War, there’s Maria the Virgin Witch

Episode 2:

So in this episode, we were introduced to Jeanne who is a cute loli who lives with her fairies and a character named La Hire who is a mercenary that can wield gun and has huge boobs (No! I am not making this up). And feel sad for Jeanne's fairies though as they're died after fighting against the English Army who burns Jeanne's village. As a result, Montmorecy gives Jeanne a power to become something more than human thanks to his Alchemist skills that produce saliva (Ewwww...). As a result, Jeanne becomes an evil version of herself with a different voice and massacre all of the English troops and wants to fight against La Hire because she was flat. Still though, feel bad for Jeanne since she can't stay in the village anymore.

Episode 3:

The story starts with a bit of a Downer Beginning with Charlotte overtake France from her deceased father. And it was revealed that the French Soldiers and the nobles are horribly corrupt and one of the Princess subordinates, La Thorville or something like that tries to betray her and has a grudge with Montmorecy, his step brother. Needless to say, La Thorville had a rather creepy obsession with dolls. Also, some scene with Richemont and it was revealed that Henry V won't be the antagonist... What a surprise. But instead, he is replaced by a creepy glasses guy who tries to rape her and tries to overtake England. But luckily she escaped from England clutches but got her name as a knight stained as a result. And man... That ending though. And yeah, there are some funny and lewd moments in here such as the interaction between La Hire and her companion or Jeanne's reaction regarding how she can found the body double with Jeanne's answer being Montmorency knows that she had a big breast. But man, I feel sad for Charlotte though even if Montmorency tries at his best to prevent the war.

Been a while to catch up since I think Elfen Lied and me may be the only people to comment here for this show

This version of Jeanne has me sighing and I’m seeing a lot of Jalter memes for when she turns Ulysses. Interesting how mundane the existence of supernatural beings are here but it doesn’t seem to alter the balance of power; if anything, humans are the more dangerous kind.

Richemont did not have the worst fate I thought she could suffer which is honestly a relief. Looks like Charlotte is this version of the Dauphin and that creppy dude making taxidermy dolls out of fairies is legitimately horrifying especially when you realize these are real after he crushes one in his hand out of anger.

Looks like Ulysses are basically Servants so Kung Fu Jesus was real lol.

Honestly I should be angrier about how they’re using the legend of Jeanne d’Arc for this but I accepted that this was a trash show from the start so I’m just gonna take it easy

So ayyyyy lol at Jeanne being thirsty af and obsessing over boobies

You can probably unspoiled stuff here Elfen, I don’t mind.

That’s fine man

I am particularly drawn to La Hire’s design and it helps her VA, Shizuka Ishigami, is great.

@vicarious Have to admit though RIP for one who plays the narrator in the show, Unsho Ishizuka, Great VA and will miss him.

Also, I agree with you that La Hire has a great design. But I also like Richemont, Astaroth and Charlotte too :3

Charlotte’s design kills me with how the dress sticks to the boobs

Her and Richemont have top tier seiyuus and even the relatively newer ones do good

And yeah RIP to that man

Episode 4:

God, I hate La Tremoille especially in the ending despite his rather well-intentioned goals and that mercenary too who tries to make Jeanne and Charlotte suffer. But overall, it's still an okay episode and at least La Hire tries to save them and both Montmorecy, Richmond, Charlotte and Jeanne combine their forces together and Jeanne's new outfit when joining Charlotte is cool. But it's sad to see that Phillip doesn't join the heroes side and she had a haunted dark past by getting haunted with her dying father and tries to make Burgundy the strongest empire so yeah...

Well this story is not going to end well for Montmorency now that we know his full name.

Episode 5:

F*** you La Tremoille! I hope you die in a hole for your actions in this episode such as that infamous Virginity test scene. Also, feel sad on Richemont... It's like everything bad will befell on her. On the positive side, the Ruthless version of Jeanne is back I guess and now we know Montmorency's other name... Gilles de Rais

Hold on, isnt Gilles De Rais one of the most evil figure in France? I r confus
