I forgot this series had thread.
It's been pretty good so far. I know some people complain about the filler, but I personally enjoy the slow peace and the ample occasions for world building and character development it presents.
Not gonna lie tho, half the reason I tune in every week is because Mélie is so cute. I can't get enough of her.
This current arc tho. You can tell it's written by a french author, because it has very strong opinion about immigration issue and will stop at nothing to make sure the people watching get it.
@Shlugo True... Personally, I think the immigration issue in the anime is actually feels fine and subtle in terms of telling it. Not so much on Konrad though on how hillariously unsubtle the guy is especially his willingness to obliterate any immigrants because they stains his beautiful town.
"Making screw-ups and mistakes was I ever really good at. Because everything I touch went to hell."Episode 14:
Konrad is a truly piece of work... Really really a piece of work and I think he could ended up as a Complete Monster I guess if this goes on and it seems that he teams up together with Hameline in order to purge innocent immigrants and his people of his town included. And poor Doc though. Overall, the episode is interesting as the intense part began on this episode after some fillers and we saw some fights on the anime itself.
"Making screw-ups and mistakes was I ever really good at. Because everything I touch went to hell."Episode 15:
Oh boy, just you wait in the cleanup for Complete Monster... I will have a lot of a fun time to discuss Konrad's atrocities that he committed in this episode. This episode just kind the dealbreaker for me. And I feel that his goal "protecting" the Rumble Town is bullshit up to eleven because of this guys run into principles like this: "Letting the Immigrants and the Infected ruin my beautiful town that I work hard to protect? Not ok! Let myself causing some destruction on the town and purge the citizens of my town regardless of the innocent people involved and call them necessary sacrifice? A-OK!" That's Konrad in a nutshell. Though I'm not sure if you can call him Well-Intentioned Extremist anymore after this episode.

"Making screw-ups and mistakes was I ever really good at. Because everything I touch went to hell."Less "well-intentioned extremist" and more "completely dellusional bigot adept at doublethink".
So episode 15… I'm mixed on how they treated the flashback. On one hand, they removed all the dark sarcasm in her narration and cut all the parts revolving around Konrad, as well as part of the background information about the "defensive unit" plan, which makes the flashback feel incomplete compared to the manga. On the other hand… since Hameline is the one narrating, I guess it makes sense to stick strictly to her point of view (since she logically can't narrate scenes she hasn't witnessed directly). That still doesn't justify why they left out the bit about the "education" they received, or killed off Gretta (the green-haired girl), who was shown to have survived and ran away during the nemesis attack in the manga − though we don't know what she became after that…
The second half was pretty neat, with Uchiyama Yumi delivering a great performance and the fight itself being well animated. Although I still can't tell if that weird motion blur is a bug or a feature…

@Lyendith That's what I think alright. Btw, do you think that Konrad almost qualifies as a CM or no? If not then it's ok.
P.S. Is your pfp a girl from Radiant?

"Making screw-ups and mistakes was I ever really good at. Because everything I touch went to hell."Well…
- The character is truly heinous by the standards of the story, which makes no attempt to present the character in any positive way.
- The character's terribleness is played seriously at all times, evoking fear, revulsion and hatred from the other characters in the story.
- They are completely devoid of altruistic qualities. They show no regret for their crimes.
Konrad seems to fall squarely into all of these, even if he pretends to have a noble motivation…
And yes, my profile pic is Ocoho, a character who appears in the next arc. We probably won't see her in the anime, unless they include a cameo in the epilogue or something.

Well, so much for subtle storytelling. Konrad couldn't be more obvious bigoted, self serving, hypocritical piece of shit if he tried.
I fucking love Hameline and the way she verbally teared into the mob and teared down their excuses. Too often in this types of scenario, the citizens are just portrayed as just victims of manipulation, when the truth is that all Konrad did was validate the bigotry and resentment they already possessed. Each and every one of them already wanted to do all of this, they were just too cowardly to try it alone. And it's only when the tables turn, they proclaim their innocence, play the victims and cry to be saved. In a way they're even more detestable than Konrad himself. Frankly it's hard to see why they should be saved at all.
On a side note, how do those flying islands work. Why does the whole island fly, but if you break off a piece of it, it falls?
They're not "flying" per se, they're basically on top of giant natural pillars. Think about normal islands, but emerging from the clouds instead of the sea. Regarding Rumble Town, you can check out chapter 8 and chapter 16-17 of the manga, they provide more explanations.
I honestly hoped the anime would used its 21 episodes to elaborate more on the whole context and political climate of Rumble Town instead of padding the first half of the season with pointless filler. =[
And yes, Hameline is great.
Edited by Lyendith on Jan 13th 2019 at 12:25:22 PM
I literally never noticed that!
All this time I though they were flying. But since they are on pillars, that means there must be solid ground bellow, so why does everyone lives up in the clouds?
21? Seriously? I though it's going to be one of those ongoing series like Son of Borut's dad, and that's why there are filler episodes, but if it's only 21...

@Lyendith Agree with that.
Anyways, @shlugo @Lyendith Even the OP of the anime can tell that Konrad is a truly bad news to begin with. The only redeeming quality that he had is probably his mustache
@shlugo Lerche probably wants to try to follow the footsteps of Pierrot

"Making screw-ups and mistakes was I ever really good at. Because everything I touch went to hell."Episode 16 was… packed. I would say almost rushed. The meeting between Seth and Piodon unfolds quite differently than it does in the manga; so differently that it might be the author's intent. I don't see why they woud ommit a certain scene that's crucial to the end of the arc otherwise…
But otherwise, it was actually a pretty great episode. While it's a pity that they cut short a couple of gags (like Ullmina quoting some… interesting bits of Malleus Maleficarum
and Santori complimenting Konrad's moustache), they also added interesting character moments for Hameline and Mélie with the former grieving the death of her Nemesis much more strongly than in the manga and the latter sympathizing with her. There's was just that very goofy moment where Grimm let out a ridiculous high-pitched screamed after being wounded. I wonder what the voice direction was for that. >.>
No idea. What's even weirder is that, with how fast-paced this episode was, I expect the arc to conclude in 2 or 3 episode… and there's 5 left.
Okay, did Doc just molded out of his own body? The hell?
Grimm high pitched screams at his own blood was hilarious. Grimm is kind of a wuss.
So Piodon asking Seth "what are you fighting for?" seems quite significant, because... what are they fighting for, right now? Why are they getting in Haimelien way? To protect those who hate them for existing and would gladly get rid of them... who tried to get rid of them like half an hour ago? That lot brought all of it on themselves. This kind of good will towards people who see you as a monster, to the point of risking their lives for them, really strains credibility.
Also, wow that lamp is some bullshit.

Episode 13:
Yeah, Konrad seems like a piece of work alright due to his huge hatred with the Immigrants and to the point he has no hesitation to sacrifice his citizens to hunt down immigrants and yes, even Dragunov hates what Konrad is doing. Also, we now see the new character's, Hameline's, glimpse and she seems had a cordial relationship with the Nemesis and poor Doc getting taken as a hostage.
